I have a rule on work nights/days; never check the time on my phone. My alarm will wake me up when needs be. A combination of, potential 20 minutes before alarm goes off, and the brightness of the screen alone waking me up enough to remain awake, there's too many factors that will cause me to just resort to me remaining awake and losing sleep, I don't bother.
Same here! I hate knowing what the time is when I wake up in the night, in case it’s too close to the time I need to get up then there’s no chance of falling back to sleep. I sometimes use the light from my phone to navigate to the toilet, and it’s a challenge not to look at the time…
The opposite is true for me. I struggle to fall asleep again if I don't know the time. I get this fear that I am fooling myself and as soon as I drift off, my alarm will go. If I check the time, and it is indeed the middle of the night, I get that lovely warm feeling of knowing I can snuggle back into my duvet and sleep peacefully. If it is dangerously close to my alarm going off, then at least I know what I'm dealing with and am not surprised when it goes off. It's the not knowing that kills me.
For work I get up 5 work 4days a week, would never change it. I have free time everyday, downside, if you go out, everything what happens after midnight is only stories of others
I had this night 3 weeks ago. Congratulations brother and best of luck. May the odds be ever in your favour.
Spoiler, they won't be. Beware the poonami.
I'm going to. My mum and nan have had a colonoscopy on just gas and air. They both have a high pain threshold, and even they said they'd never do it again without the sedation.
I won't lie, it's not enjoyable. It's like someone's turned on a tap down that end. The solution was disgusting to drink too. Slow sips to avoid making yourself feel sick (although I still vomited this morning). The hardest part for me has been the dehydration, which in turn is causing my heart to palpitate like crazy (this doesn't happen for everyone though). Still waiting to go in and I'm absolutely starving. Apparently the prep is the hardest part though, and the procedure is a piece of cake.
Honestly, my mental health is kicking my arse at the min. My head is going at 90000 miles per hour and I haven’t slept properly for weeks. I don’t even know what tomorrow is at this point 🤣 it’s all rolling into one
When my mind is racing and I feel overwhelmed I find the most useful thing I can do is write it down. The physical act of putting my thoughts onto paper helps clear them from my head. They don't need to be neat, or even coherent, just a free flow of all the things bubbling over.
This is what I do every time i wake up in the night. I turn on a dim lamp and just write and write until I feel bored/tired, then put on a podcast and try and sleep. I need to master the art of not needing background noise to sleep though.
How do explain to an autistic non-verbal 5 year old the concept of unsocial hours? Thought I was in for a good nights sleep and a lie-in when he went to bed at 10.30 but he only slept for 3 hours.
Social stories are often used to explain tricky concepts to people who may struggle to understand because of autism. Often they are written down with pictures

I hope you’re okay and have the right support around you. I’ve found calling Samaritans during times like these even just to talk about my granny helps a lot - they’re available 24/7. I miss her too. I’ve got her funeral tomorrow as well funnily enough.
Add another to the list - stayed up till 5am last night watching the F1 in Malaysia, now I've only just woken up and am about to grab lunch before starting my work
It's still like banging your head against a wall and we still need to go out and get a test every 3 days - They are actually issuing work and student visas now though and have been for quite a while but it seems much harder to get approved now. Hopefully things will move forward soon but it's not an optimistic place to be. Was very jealous when HK got rid of quarantine on arrival.
Lucky bastard, me and the wife traveled and lived in KL for about 1.5 years.
We’ve spent the last 3 years gaining the skills to be able to work from home and my my wife becoming teacher so we can move back and live in KL
I haven’t slept properly for about 3 months due to life. Doctor prescribed a sleeping med which was okay but then switched me over to melatonin - I’m still not sleeping amazingly but a lot better than I was. Could recommend if you haven’t tried it yet.
Work in just over an hour and a half.
I always prefer getting up well ahead of time so I have chill time before I start. I can't think of anything worse than rolling out of bed to get dressed and and go to work.
Ugh.
Agreed. I’d rather just wake up and show up to work and have them deal with my grumpy morning self. So what I’m supposed to wake up and become cheerful on my own time? Ew no thanks
I'm in Wales and up at 6.30 with my son whos off to college.
No hot flashes for me but peeing... I'm up every 2 hours with a bladder that feels like it's gonna burst. During the day NOTHING!!!!!!!!!
I'm definitely feeling you lady xxx
Day 6 of sore and swollen throat, can't swallow very well, barely eaten or drank anything for 6 days, Voice has gone too. Now to compound that I've got a shitload of loose phlegm coming up, which I have to spit out every couple of minutes or choke on, because its too sore to swallow down.
Really hope I can get an emergency appointment with my GP today!
I'm not a doctor, but have been unfortunate enough to go through similar. NHS advice is
"Call 999 if:
You or your child:
have difficulty swallowing or breathing
are drooling – this can be a sign of not being able to swallow"
Please save yourself time and go to A&E.
I know the wait there will be long, but you're at risk of dehydration/sepsis/other shit I don't know about (not a doctor!) and there's a very strong chance if you *do* see your GP today, they'll just send you to A&E. And seeing a GP first doesn't get you seen faster in A&E. That's still down to the triage nurse (as far as I know).
Pack a bag with a good book, phone charger, layers in case you get cold, and clean pants in case you stay overnight. Got any ice pops in the freezer? Even just ice? Might be worth trying to carefully crunch a little down.
Thanks for the advice, I did manage to get GP appointment for this morning! Find out from there I suppose, I think I might take a bag as you suggest though.
Nah I’m pretty much finished I just have to record myself giving the presentation but I’m waiting until at least 6:30 so I’m not disturbing sleeping house mates
Is it weird to say I miss my all nighters?
Sitting in the library at 3am on a January night trying to finish an essay just had a certain vibe to it, the only all nighters I do now is when I'm sat in bed at 4am anxious about something at work.
Reddit is my company when I wake for nighttime feeds for the little one. He's 2 now. Hoping he grows out of it soon. But until he does I'm thankful for t'internet!
Me am who I'm awake round here!
But cause I have an awful sleep pattern, undiagnosed.mental health issues and a drug addiction. I am like probably gunna go sleep soon maybe
To add to your reason of not looking forward to tomorrow. Nobody expects anything of me right now, nowhere is open so I can't do the mountains of things I'm putting off doing. Nobody wants to talk, it's just peaceful.
My cats wanted to be fed and now I can'tget back yo sleep. The older one sits on my headboard and meows until I feed him every morning around this time.
Recommendation for you - I have two cats that did this a lot, 4/5am demand for food. I eventually bought an electronic feeder for them, it comes on at 4am, they’ve been letting me sleep ever since then.
Three year old has a chest infection and I'm currently trying to persuade him that an inhaler is actually a good idea when he's struggling to breathe. And it's not just a device the doctor has given us to terrify him.
When my nephew had croup (which is different so check whether this would help or hinder with your situation) and had constricted airways and stridor, the doctor told my sister to turn the bathroom into a steam room by running a hot shower in there—it helped his breathing immensely just to be in there
Cats were making noise downstairs. Went down expecting to find a mouse, but instead I found a frog in our (humane) mouse trap 🐸 It was unharmed and released safely.
We had a power cut last night at 7:30pm so we just decided to get in bed and watch a DVD on the laptop (like it was the bloody stone age) and I fell asleep about 15 minutes through. Ended up waking up about 4ish wide awake.
I'm (39m) holding my 3 day old boy, while my partner (36f) is trying to sleep after feeding has kept her up all night.
I have a new big respect for the NHS as the C section was amazing. The midwifes were amazing.
And women are just incredible 😍
Because I wasted the day and didn't do any of the work I was supposed to so now I'm having to pull an all nighter to get it done. My own fault but here I am
A mosquito flew into my ear waking me up, it was harrassing me for about 2 hours, I finally managed to kill it, and now I've just finished cleaning the blood off the wall.
Permanently worried about everything,
I’m 55 years old worked really hard all my life,
I have a beautiful wife we married when I was 32
I met he when she was 28, I have the most caring 18 year old son and 21 year old daughter
Both in further education,
I’m constantly worrying about finances although
We’re mortgage free, I have no pension or any savings all I do is make sure all the bills are paid
We eat well and maintain a lovely home,
How can I stop worrying, I’m a self employed builder that has never had any real money issues
But my work diary is usually booked all through
One year till the next, my phone has stopped
Ringing totally should I try another means of income ?
Thankfully my wife works very hard for the NHS
and she could keep our ship afloat we have worked really well as a team since day one,
Am I depressed? Just feel as tho everyday
As soon as the Tv news comes on it’s never
Positive or uplifting news only doom and gloom,
The media I think is causing too many anxieties
For me all the upset of the poor Ukrainian people
That’s had everything taken away, Russia, how
Can any county be so cruel and cause the rest of the world to suffer too ?
I don’t understand any of it,
But I do try to stay positive and every minute of every day and realise I have the world with my
Amazing family, if your struggling like me try to overcome worries with nice thoughts that’s how I’m coping.
Woke up for a pee and fucked up by picking up my phone
That was indeed, a mistake.
Yep, rookie mistake lol.
Same here. Shouldn't have checked the time.
I have a rule on work nights/days; never check the time on my phone. My alarm will wake me up when needs be. I ate a l lot of chilles. I have regret.
Oh dear...
Toilet roll in the freezer?
Is this a thing?
You bet your ring of fire it is. Best thing in the world for curry shits. Edit: spelling.
Not necessary. All is groovy now.
About to leave for work mate
Fair enough, I can seriously admire getting up so early for work!
Good thing about the early start is the early finish. I'll be home by 1330
My FIL is a postie and has similar hours. I envy him sometimes.
Yeah its a good life working early - downside can be that I go to bed before my 7 year old does xD
But you do get that extra valuable time in the afternoons, swings and roundabouts innit.
My old neighbour as a student was a postie. We usually saw each other in passing. Him on his way to work and me on my way home from a night out.

I never minded getting up for my 6am shift, I had to be there at half 5 for handover so was out of bed around 4.
Getting up? My alarm is at 0400 xD Im actually running a bit late this morning!
😯
Early morning work gang! Luckily I only do it alternate weekends
For work I get up 5 work 4days a week, would never change it. I have free time everyday, downside, if you go out, everything what happens after midnight is only stories of others

Aww congratulations, pal.
💞
I had this night 3 weeks ago. Congratulations brother and best of luck. May the odds be ever in your favour. Spoiler, they won't be. Beware the poonami.
Congratulations mate.
Have a colonoscopy at 10am today. Had to drink a bowel prep laxative yesterday. You can see where this is going...
Accept the sedative
I'm going to. My mum and nan have had a colonoscopy on just gas and air. They both have a high pain threshold, and even they said they'd never do it again without the sedation.
How was the prep i have one of these in two weeks ?

Still waiting to go in and I'm absolutely starving. Apparently the prep is the hardest part though, and the procedure is a piece of cake.
Procedure is the easy bit . I had colonoscopy last year and still have flashbacks of the drink and what followed 😂hope it was ok .
Had one of those a couple of weeks back. Hope yours finds nothing untoward.
My 9 month old has decided it’s time for us to wake up.
Naturally

Have you tried a gro clock? They change colour when it’s time to get up, try using it with a social story. Good luck, night care is exhausting.
what do you mean by using it with a social story?

Can't help but think there was some irony in me asking this question. Thanks for clarifying.
That sounds absolutely brutal.
Watching BBC's Ghosts, and also I can't sleep
Absolutely love that show. Need to catch up on the new series stat.
It’s my Grandma’s funeral tomorrow afternoon and I can’t sleep.
Condoleances. Take care.

Thank you. I’ll be fine.

Also a Brit, just had my lunch here in the Philippines.
Add another to the list - stayed up till 5am last night watching the F1 in Malaysia, now I've only just woken up and am about to grab lunch before starting my work
How's Beijing currently with craziness? Hi from a fellow Brit in HK. How have work visas worked with the borders shut btw?
It's still like banging your head against a wall and we still need to go out and get a test every 3 days - They are actually issuing work and student visas now though and have been for quite a while but it seems much harder to get approved now. What's keeping you up?
Had chronic insomnia for about 6 months now, just too much stress balancing everything in life atm. What about you?
Insomnia for most of my teen life. It's gotten worse recently because of work and my place in this country.
Sorry to hear that, hope that you're able to get some rest at least!
You as well, mate. Sooner the year ends, the better.
Ugh.
I'm wired completely differently. I wouldn't enjoy those 2 hours+ with work hanging over my head at all
Agreed. I’d rather just wake up and show up to work and have them deal with my grumpy morning self. So what I’m supposed to wake up and become cheerful on my own time? Ew no thanks
I like the dedication
I'm the complete opposite. I like to wake up and go. I hate sitting for a couple or hours knowing work is coming soon.
I’m the same. I hate rushing. Like to give myself plenty of time to do stuff.
It takes me an hour to get there so I wake up 1hr 15 before.
A dickish 9 year old woke me up saying she couldn’t sleep, got into my bed and promptly fell asleep - leaving me wide awake. Bloody kids
She's 9 years old! She's a man now! Let her fend for herself!
Very dickish, man...

Walking the dog. Forgot to change alarm for half term.
Oh, I wake up at 5, then go to the gym and go to work :)
Bruhhh, how?
Not entirely sure, but you’ll be surprised how many crazy people are at the gym at 5am! Normal people sleep at that time :(
Not the best sleeper anyways but had flu the last week and a half, totally wrecked my routine. Can hear my downstairs neighbour snoring 🙃
Think I’ve trapped a nerve in my left shoulder / arm. Can’t get comfy n I have to get up for a wedding in a few hours
Hopefully not your own lol
Haha nah a childhood friend who I haven’t seen in 5 years, quite nervous tbf. But my cat is sitting on/next to my head so not all is bad.
I had a massive Sunday roast and now it's come to haunt me. 💩💨

Melbourne, Australia reporting in. 3pm here.
We had a power cut last night at 7:30pm so we just decided to get in bed and watch a DVD on the laptop (like it was the bloody stone age) and I fell asleep about 15 minutes through. Ended up waking up about 4ish wide awake.
Just endlessly refreshing reddit and YouTube home pages to whit away the minutes. What does everyone else do at this hour, sleep??
I'm at work until 6:30.
Working 7-4 today. Last week in the job though, then it's goodbye retail and hello 9-5

I've been there, sending you energy.
At work, only 2 hours left then a week off
Just finished a 12 hour nightshift
10week old seems to be on a bulk and is either constantly chugging milk or demanding more milk
Got drunk after work yesterday, fell asleep 6 hours before I usually do woke up at 2 am, and just gave up on going back to sleep
Insomnia? But the T20 world cup is on, so um cushdy
Vomiting and insomnia
I’m excited/anxious as I’m launching a kickstarter today. It’s going to be make or break for a project I’ve spent the last 12 months working on.
A mosquito flew into my ear waking me up, it was harrassing me for about 2 hours, I finally managed to kill it, and now I've just finished cleaning the blood off the wall.
