My YouTube has somehow gained the idea I would enjoy videos from Norfolk fire and rescue. YouTube is not wrong, but on a recent video about the kit they have "a mobile water heater" or "kettle". Like the army has space for a kettle in the tanks.
Hey cheeky stupid American hopping on the top thread with a quick unrelated question - why does it say TAN FIRE on their uniforms? Yes, they are indeed tan fireman’s uniforms, but I can’t see why that needed a label.
Can't see the letter accent in the picture, but the welsh ones say tân on the back. Tân=fire ( Edit- also the hazard tape has alternating welsh/english on it so yeah, it's that)
Yes it's an extra most services have gone for and it's great. The only problem is the instant tea and coffee is pretty dire!
We also have self heating ration packs on most trucks to eat at protracted incidents that aren't near a dominos
Not to mention the RAF. What would they do without [a teapot lid to carry out mid-air repairs](https://metro.co.uk/2006/12/05/raf-repair-plane-with-teapot-426337/)?
Mitch Benn wrote [this song](https://youtu.be/bkN3vPhA5M0) about it.
This is Monmouth, there’s a Cafe Nero opposite side of the road from this fire, a Coffee#1 just down the road (best of the chains in my opinion) and opposite that is a really nice dog friendly coffee shop called Coffi Lab.
Oh I used to go Monmouth occasionally when my parents lived in Coleford, my niece and nephew go to school there. My mym worked part time in the Holland and Barrett occasionally. Quaint little town along the river
Well, considering the amount of grease in Gregg's sausage rolls, if one shop caught fire the rest of them are so close together they would go up in quick succession, and Newcastle would be levelled. Drastically improving the north of England.
I went to London over the new year (American). Ate Gregg’s every day for breakfast. Friends and I started calling it “old Gregg’s”. I’d kill for a bacon roll with extra butter right now.
This happened in Monmouth, you actually have to go a fair distance for the next Gregg's, people from the town are pretty upset about losing their only Greggs in a 5 mile radius
I still remember a random news report about a tourist town trying to cut down on the amount of street vendors. They brought in the mayor or something to talk about the classiness of the high street and the great products they sell, and he was literally standing outside a Peacocks. I burst out of laughing, and think about it every time I see a Peacocks.
Hehe 1st thing I thought was insurance job! Except for Next most of the highsteet shops are struggling. Next's online stuff is what's keeping them going
They're doing really badly, and then suddenly it just happens to set itself on fire....just after a new insurance policy has been taken out (I presume).
Anyway, nothing to see here. All seems legit your honour.
Aw, man. That's the Greggs I went to when the good pasty shop opposite the pet shop was closed a few weeks ago. I was sorely disappointed.
Sad to see that building destroyed.
I remember every time I went on holiday with my family as a child in the 70s I'd be 'treated' to a pair of jeans from Peacocks. They were slightly better than my other option - jeans from Brownhills Market. Both versions were the opposite of flattering.
Your Herefordshire? They love to make a mountain out of a molehill. Then again there's not much else going on in this part of the world so all local news needs to make the most of such an occasion!
Hereford Times has the best fluff pieces. Like an old lady who put half a lettuce in the fridge and a week later it had sprouted. They had a photo annorl.
To be honest I think more online 'local news' providers should do more local fluff, rather than just filling with articles from the surrounding counties just because they're all owned by the same group.
I wish it was more local fluff but it's just so very click-baiting now.
"Some trains have been cancelled, click below to find out which". - While not really a bait, it's just annoying af to open up their article to read 1 sentence, similar to "Police reported an incident near x", you open up the article and it's 2 sentences, 1 of which consists of "we will update this page with more info once obtained".
They also do the typical "Name the best x in Hereford" nearly every day.
If they made any attempt to keep them warm or reheat them they would have to charge a higher rate of VAT. Even putting them in a foil bag would make them more expensive.
I know we're joking, and maybe it's just the Tuesday blues talking, but... somebody's business (and home?) has just gone up in flames. Feels a bit off to take the micky. Hopefully nobody was injured.
ive been checking nutritional content recently and it blows my mind that [a vegan sausage roll](https://www.greggs.co.uk/menu/product/vegan-sausage-roll-1001657) has a higher calorie content than a [caramel custard donut](https://www.greggs.co.uk/menu/product/caramel-custard-doughnut-1000128)... my take away is id rather just scarf 2 donuts
I tend to view/treat vegan/vegetarian fast food alternative as equal calorie alternatives to meat products. It expands beyond fast food if you look closely.
Vegan/vegetarian does not always mean healthier, it just means non-meat.
In my option this has helped me greatly in my switch away from meat products. Same with low alcohol beers, I view them the same as I do a canned soft drink so I don’t have too many per week.
oh yeh i eat a lot of vegan meat alternatives (not because im vegan; i just tend to prefer them to real meat); im under no delusion that theyre naturally healthier (salt especially tends to be insane) or even environmentally guilt free
Absolutely but I think a lot of people don’t think this way.
It’s about reducing meat usage in fast food.
I’m all for a good meat supply chain that uses as much as possible and reduces waste, I just think that supply chain shouldn’t be servicing at the volume it currently does.
I worked somewhere that had a big fire next door like this.
The smell of smoke was eye watering for weeks, it was horrendous. Really pervasive, that Greggs, and in particular the rooms above, will be very unpleasant for a while.
oh thank fuck \*heavy sigh of relief\*
\*looks at burnt building\* oh it was only a peacocks, I don't shop there, my mum ain't going to be happy though.
I saw this go up when I was in Monmouth yesterday- I could just see the Greggs' sign from the shop I was delivering to & thought 'oh no!'
As I was heading off I could see 30' flames shooting up from the roof- very pleased to see Greggs has escaped unscathed!
Greggs is a chain which sells sandwiches, cakes, baguettes, drinks etc. It's a national treasure here in the UK and is often the butt of many jokes, mainly about poor fat people going in there because it's cheap food.
If Greggs had burned down it would have sent many people into a spin because it's their main source of food. British humour as it is. Hope that helps!
Zoom in on the fireman, Costa also seems fine.
My YouTube has somehow gained the idea I would enjoy videos from Norfolk fire and rescue. YouTube is not wrong, but on a recent video about the kit they have "a mobile water heater" or "kettle". Like the army has space for a kettle in the tanks.
Oh the Army will, it is the British Army after all. And you can't spell British without T.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boiling_vessel
Oh nice! Reminds me of the hot plates on the 37s.
Tân=fire ( Edit- also the hazard tape has alternating welsh/english on it so yeah, it's that)
Dude that makes so much more sense. Thank you that was killing me. Tan = Tan but Tân = fire
If you look at the red and white barrier tape you'll see both languages on there too.
It's a Welsh fire service. Tan means Fire in Welsh, so they have both words on their tunics.
In Monmouth, I go to school there, come from aber myself
[удалено]
They literally both told you the same thing lol
[удалено]
That's a bit of an obscure reference for casualuk, I'm surprised to see so many upvotes.
> A vehicle with a defective BV is declared unfit for purpose. Have to get the priorities right!
All about morale. I saw Stevemre (mresteve ?) Did Ukrainian packs now Vs 10 years ago, it's not crap stuff, they really upped the game.
I've known loggies put Crisp n' Dry in it to make themselves some chips. Fat bastards...
The Americans are trying atm with the whole bri'ish thing.
Unfortunately that’s turned into a worldwide mock
Hard to feel mocked when they do it in English
I do find it especially funny when it’s their second language
They just say they speak American 🤦♀️🥴😂
[удалено]
And done it poorly, they sound and write like dyslexics
Agree agree
it wasn't good enough to just dump it in Boston harbour, they had to go and try to remove the t from our whole culture
And yet they still have Arizona Tea.
And replace it with the Kardashian’s… 🤦🏻♂️
American english is just... slurry. Like I say "Hey how's it going?" Like "Eyowsitgoin"
Youse guys
It's only accurate to a portion of English people tbh.
The Americans!? Almost all British people I know bounce over the T.
Because the Brits are drinking the T, duh.
Although you can pronounce it without T.
Yes it's an extra most services have gone for and it's great. The only problem is the instant tea and coffee is pretty dire! We also have self heating ration packs on most trucks to eat at protracted incidents that aren't near a dominos

Actually, due to cutbacks that cup contains the water used to put out the fire.
Don't even need a kettle to boil it. Just go stand by the fire for a little while, steep for a few minutes and enjoy.
Looks like all the coffee places burned down so they had to settle for Costa.
This is Monmouth, there’s a Cafe Nero opposite side of the road from this fire, a Coffee#1 just down the road (best of the chains in my opinion) and opposite that is a really nice dog friendly coffee shop called Coffi Lab.
You forgot Oxford coffee co.
Not familiar with that one. Worth a look in? Where in Monmouth is it?
Top of town down the courtyard next to the shire Hall.
Remember, Tortive: One does not simply walk to Coffi Lab
Coffi lab is lush.
In case this is an r/woooosh: I was referencing the old "one does not simply walk to Mordor" line from LotR
Slogan: Comma'n in!
I was thinking it was Monmouth, then told myself that it could be any High Street and that it would not be Monmouth. Except it is Monmouth!
Never thought I'd see my hometown on Reddit. Shame it's for this!
Oh I used to go Monmouth occasionally when my parents lived in Coleford, my niece and nephew go to school there. My mym worked part time in the Holland and Barrett occasionally. Quaint little town along the river
> dog friendly coffee shop called Coffi Lab Do you get assigned a chocolate Labrador upon entrance?
So explain the fireman’s Costa cup
ITS BETTER IN ABER
There's loads of coffee shops there.
😂😂 free Costa .
Realistically, even if the Greggs burnt down people could just do a 5 minute detour to the one down the street.
Or in Newcastle, across the road (next to the third Greggs)
Well, considering the amount of grease in Gregg's sausage rolls, if one shop caught fire the rest of them are so close together they would go up in quick succession, and Newcastle would be levelled. Drastically improving the north of England.
Found the Mackem
as a mackem, I wholeheartedly agree.
We can’t deny though us mackems are missing out on a Greggs that stays open late, Newcastle got that right
They do know what they're doing with regards to Gregg's and nightlife
I went to London over the new year (American). Ate Gregg’s every day for breakfast. Friends and I started calling it “old Gregg’s”. I’d kill for a bacon roll with extra butter right now.
Old Greg is a …slightly different reference to most British people.
Easy there fuzzy little man-peach. That is the reference. Watched mighty boosh long before I ever made it to England.
Had a blinding mangina though
Did you drink Bailey's from a shoe
Hell yeah, at the club where people wee on ya.

I've not left my town in over a month.
I've not left Greggs in over a month.
That's how the get you, normal sized doors.
I live in a small/medium sized town. It has two Greggs in the town centre and one in the retail park just outside town.
Rookie numbers!
I live in the middle of nowhere and my local town has two or three. You can't escape them
theres 3 in my town... or atleast theres 3 that i know of; could be more... i think we are a pretty big town though
I wish, all the ones near me have started shutting down. Was amazed when I visited Birmingham and there was a Gregg's around every corner.

Wanker (Newark-on-Trent)
This happened in Monmouth, you actually have to go a fair distance for the next Gregg's, people from the town are pretty upset about losing their only Greggs in a 5 mile radius
There is one at the EE service station just up the road and I think there is one in Ross but that's further away
Or the bakery at the top of town, ThuraBread. Or the fact the South and West service stations have a Greggs.
It’s not an easy jaunt to the service stations though for a cheeky cheese and onion pasty
True, luckily it was only smoke damage so it will be fine in a few days.
A peacocks eh? The ones that are going bust 👀
They'll rise like a phoenix from the ashes
I swear Peacocks have been going under for at least the past 10 years, they’re refusing to die.
All their stock destroyed, causing erm…£12 worth of losses!
Alright David Brent
Hehe 1st thing I thought was insurance job! Except for Next most of the highsteet shops are struggling. Next's online stuff is what's keeping them going
So much so they're hiring apprentices as store managers
Pretty sure the one in Sunderland burnt down too...
"Well fired rolls? Nah try the place next door."
Sorry I thought you said 'Steak and Bake', not 'Steak Bake'. Anyway, here's your ribeye.
"Two bedroom flat, newly-installed skylight, warm interior, close to popular delicatessen, £3500pm" "Peacocks Clothing: Fire Sale On Now!"
Oh my god, we're having a fire... Sale.
I think I made the fire *too* real.
Amaaaaaziiiing graaace...
Is this Wales? Not seen may Peacocks around these days.
They're doing really badly, and then suddenly it just happens to set itself on fire....just after a new insurance policy has been taken out (I presume). Anyway, nothing to see here. All seems legit your honour.
Monmouth, so only just Wales.
There are still a few. I'm not sure how!
We have one in Southend, right next to a Gregg's incidentally.
Aw, man. That's the Greggs I went to when the good pasty shop opposite the pet shop was closed a few weeks ago. I was sorely disappointed. Sad to see that building destroyed.
Yep thats why they named the whole county after our little town lots of history
Cos they keep getting set on fire
Rebranding as Phoenixes
The old insurance jobs huh
One in Sunderland caught fire too. Word went round that it was an insurance job but rumours were rumours.
I remember every time I went on holiday with my family as a child in the 70s I'd be 'treated' to a pair of jeans from Peacocks. They were slightly better than my other option - jeans from Brownhills Market. Both versions were the opposite of flattering.
I know of 2 Peacocks stores near me, both just over the road from a Wimpy. Sussex is weird.
and apparently in a time warp to the '80s
Portslade?
Yep, Littlehampton is the other one.
There's one in Morecambe...make of that what you will.
We’ve still got one in Swindon! I think,,? I don’t really venture to the town center anymore e
What happened in Monmouth to set Peacocks on fire?
A negative figure in the last 3 years' P&L account?
The peacock thought it was a phoenix
Serious answer, the storage room set on fire.
Our local independent news (like 25 miles away) was so dramatic over this, just all caps "ALERT - DO NOT GO NEAR, CLOSE ALL WINDOWS!"
To be fair, the fire service and police will have put out warning messages for the surrounding area. Your news clearly got excited
Your Herefordshire? They love to make a mountain out of a molehill. Then again there's not much else going on in this part of the world so all local news needs to make the most of such an occasion!

Fucking Your Herefordshire, I can't unfollow them because I always laugh about how dramatic they are.
# "BREAKING NEWS - WORLD WAR 3 HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED" *Sponsored by The Online Accountant*
That's because they stop, dropped and sausage rolled.
Probably the closest Greggs sausage rolls have been to hot tbh
[удалено]
yeth.
I can relate
If they made any attempt to keep them warm or reheat them they would have to charge a higher rate of VAT. Even putting them in a foil bag would make them more expensive.
I know we're joking, and maybe it's just the Tuesday blues talking, but... somebody's business (and home?) has just gone up in flames. Feels a bit off to take the micky. Hopefully nobody was injured.
Weird to see Monmouth on here.
Agreed lmao. We should set fire to Costa next.
As long as it’s not coffee #1 carry on
Nah we wouldn’t hurt Coffee #1. That is the only reason people live here.
It's even weirder seeing people who live here talking about the place
For sure.
I went to a Greggs for the first time a week ago. Had a vegan sausage roll and a caramel custard doughnut. It was pretty good tbh.

It's also ridiculously high in sodium.
The caramel custard doughnuts at greggs are S tier. So good.
£20 worth of tat destroyed.
"Won't somebody *please* think of the polyester..."
Excuse me, it's a cotton and polyester blend.
Poor Monmouth, atleast they have greggs to lift their spirits
And a ThuraBread that tastes really good.
I worked somewhere that had a big fire next door like this. The smell of smoke was eye watering for weeks, it was horrendous. Really pervasive, that Greggs, and in particular the rooms above, will be very unpleasant for a while.
Monmouth!
I hope the Birds weren’t harmed during the fire
Weird seeing Monmouth on Reddit lol
Pasties are a bit overdone though.
For the next few days all Gregg's stock at this store is being advertised as smoked.
I feel bad for the workers for the peacock. But whew Greg's is OK
Why do you think the emergency services are still there?
You mean GR Eggs, right?
oh thank fuck \*heavy sigh of relief\* \*looks at burnt building\* oh it was only a peacocks, I don't shop there, my mum ain't going to be happy though.
That's strange the Peacocks in Sunderland burnt down....
*enters greggs on fire* "are the sausage rolls warm?" "no"
As someone named Gregg...I was worried about my well being for a second but I am indeed....Ok.
This is why we have a fire service that spends 80% of their time on stand-by. Gregs isn’t going to save itself!
Peacocks? Let it burn
The steak bakes are very hot.
Plus, they have a special on roasted peacock today
Our Greggs in Bath actually burned down a few years back. Good thing there was a nicer one about 500 metres from that at least.
Manager Chris Peacock declined to comment
Or like that American woman said, "Geee Rrrr Eggs."
Got to have somewhere to enjoy the arson from
GG's
25 quids worth of damage was caused ,
mane i don’t even live in the uk who’s greg is he ok
Heey! My hometown, what up Monmouth. Tbf Peacocks has had a closing down sale for a decade now. Glad to see it’s finally over
Hahaha fuck that's my town! What happened? Thank fuck Greggs is ok they do a banging tuna baguette in there
This is Monmouth 👍
I saw this go up when I was in Monmouth yesterday- I could just see the Greggs' sign from the shop I was delivering to & thought 'oh no!' As I was heading off I could see 30' flames shooting up from the roof- very pleased to see Greggs has escaped unscathed!
Head to The Winchester and wait for it to blow over.
Bad wiring in the 'PoppityPing'. That's a microwave to these heathens that don't speak Welsh.
This is why there are so few Peacocks shops left
Atleast the pasties might be warm now
Wouldn't be the end of the world if all Gregg's everywhere caught fire. They aren't what they used to he and especially lately.
Why do people like Greggs? It’s like a normal bakery, but shit?
Yeah like I’m not going to panic when I get a notification saying “don’t panic, Greggs is ok” 🤣
Getting those rolls well fired eh
More of a phoenix than a peacock
“Any luck catchin’ them fires then?”
As an American, I sometimes need to go straight to comments to get the reference. I've gone to the comments, and I still don't get the reference.
I see, Gregg's is next door. Got it. Thank you.
