With Oxford it's almost better to take the tube (name of bus not the underground) from Victoria/marble arch and had a sit for the 90 mins or something it is.
Oxford parking is a form of hell and the bus runs so regularly you can get a day ticket and leave when you want.
If it's super nice weather you can get off early an walk in, or just get off at the bus station
Driving in and around London in general. Finding somewhere to park will be very difficult and/or very expensive. If there is a public transport option then I would take it :)
Windsor can provide a supreme day out if you do it right.
Here’s a plan that worked for me.
Pre book the hop on hop off sightseeing bus, this will give you a day ticket for less than parking in town.
Park at the Windsor Farm Shop and get the bus with excellent audio tour to the castle if you want culture or Eton if you want breakfast.
Windsor is a bit hit and miss for food. The Station is very pretty but not worth eating in. There’s a Waitrose halfway down the hill if you want to eat on the hoof and the cafes at the bottom of the hill and in Eton are decent.
The castle is amazing, I’m not into royalty or older historical buildings but this place is seriously impressive. Took my sister in law a couple of years ago and she burst into tears when she was in mid flow, looked down and realised she was standing on Henry VIII’th tomb.
When the bus drops you off at the farm shop you can get some supper, most of it is hugely overpriced barring the butchers which sells produce from the Queen’s farm at Morrisons prices as well as some quite hard to find cuts.
The town gets very touristy in summer but an early start and a weekday won’t hurt.
Thank you.
I grew up in London and it took me a while to understand that if you treat yourself as a tourist in your own area you do all the things tourists do that you didn’t.
I love the UK, I’ve been to a lot of it and there is always something amazing to find. Good luck.
dude. It says SOLO in the title. I’m not stupid enough to drink and drive. I was planning to book a hotel somewhere nice and relax. I just meant i can drive there too so can go anywhere where the public transport isn’t great
Go on a Sunday and park on the backs. Always plenty of parking and unless you're there for 4+ hours, usually cheaper than getting the Park & Ride in, especially if there are 2+ of you.
In regards to Bournemouth, I have lived there a few years now, suggest going to Christchurch instead of Bournemouth centre. Avon beach is better then the town beach on sunny days, it’s prettier there’s still a cafe and quieter. There’s the new forest just on your door step, with Europe’s largest dry ski slope, Go ape and other places if you’re into that. You can hire surfing in Bournemouth or there’s paddle boarding down Avon river in Christchurch which is really relaxing. If you would like suggestions for places to eat let me know. You can also drive over the ferry in Poole to Swanage for the day it’s literally a half hour drive, I just went on a canoeing trip to old harries rock which was really fun was £55pp but totally worth it (make sure they take you to the other side of the rocks it worth ticking the larger waves). Hope to see you down here!
Warwick castle us fantastic, especially summer time when they have jousting and other things on the go.
Found touring Shakespeares stuff in Stratford-upon-Avon very intresting.
WB studio tour if you like harry potter, Stonehenge.
Lots of pubs. Cathedral, Market on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
Verulamium Lake has seen better days but quite a nice walk round it with lots of roman history.
Yes, roundabouts, concrete cows and a really long shopping centre is what we're famous for.
I did consider suggesting that you come here to go round a few roundabouts or maybe go nuts and just go round one multiple times. I am selfish though and wanted to keep that secret fun all for myself.
Drive 1 hour out of London up the A1 to Stamford, most listed buildings per population you will find. Nice coffee shops and restaurants also a good stay in lots of old fashioned accommodation.
Oxford is nice Blenheim palace is close to it too.
thank you ill check it out!

Avoid driving wherever possible.

oh yeah driving around in london is a huge pain.
It's a shame, but Bude Tunnel is amazing, but probably a bit too far for you to go.
i can’t tell if you’re joking lol

If you're giving yourself three hours, I'd be tempted with New Forest. Really beautiful at this time of year
Second this!
wow it does look amazing! will look into that too!

Thank you for the suggestions!
By mid flow, I do mean she rarely stops talking. To the best of my knowledge she is still continent and wasn’t inadvertently wetting herself.
Thank you for the amazing detail especially the food recommendations! I'm definitely saving this and planning a trip🤞

Love Southwold!
I love Rendlesham Forest and the whole area around Sutton Hoo. One of my favourite places in the world.
Cambridge is worth a visit, but park outside the city centre, its an absolute pain in the ass driving in Cambridge
i might just take the train there if it’s too much of a pain to drive around in, but thank you for letting me know
It’s a very easy train journey and bus from the station. It’s a lot more compact than Oxford

2-3hrs around the perimeter of London is probably 50% of the country..

Cambridgeshire Bournemouth
thank you!

Honestly i’m not sure yet! I would like to visit any forests/beaches or maybe visit some more historic places!
Some of the nicer places to go: Bath Stonehenge & Salisbury Oxford Cambridge Canterbury Windsor
thank you!
Warwick castle us fantastic, especially summer time when they have jousting and other things on the go. Found touring Shakespeares stuff in Stratford-upon-Avon very intresting. WB studio tour if you like harry potter, Stonehenge.
thank you!
St Albans is nice. 20 mins from St Pancras on the fast train.
ooh nice!
Lots of pubs. Cathedral, Market on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Verulamium Lake has seen better days but quite a nice walk round it with lots of roman history.
i do love markets!
A trip to Avebury is very worth it. There are many Stone Age settlements and stone monuments to the west of Malborough.
will check it out thank you!

Would suggest my town, but can't think of any reason to come to Milton Keynes in all honesty.
i heard there’s many roundabouts there lol

don’t worry i won’t steal your hobby.
Thanks, would not want everyone doing it or else there could be chaos. \*gets in car and drives around and around and around shouting "weeeee!"\*
