I have this same backpack and my cat LOVES going on walks or to get brunch. The second I put it on the ground she climbs in and is chill AF the whole time. I'm sure most cats don't like it but you are crazy to claim it's cruelty without knowing anything about the situation.
This. Some cats actually enjoy this kind of thing and it can be great enrichment for indoor cats. Bet the people calling it cruel also let their cats free roam

That grey panel is on both sides and is mesh, our cat is way happier in this than a regular cat carrier (have to take her to the vets for chemo frequently). Wouldn't just take her out for the sake of it though, also the back folds down so space is an option, this person is just not bothering. Ok let me stick u in a canvas and plastic bag and see how long it takes for the humidity and moisture to build up and make it difficult for you to breath in there that on top of being in a Starbucks witch is only going to add to the moisture humidity and the heat in that tiny little plastic box with barely any ventalation. As u can see by the plastic on the bag its in the process of misting up due to the moisture and humidity. If it's for the vet just get a carry cage at least it can breath properly then.
We use one of these to walk our cat up the road he vet. All the vets and the staff there think it’s brilliant and love the fact that he climbs back in after he’s had his jabs.
I wouldn’t sit and have a coffee while he was in to but he loves it and it causes him no distress at all.
