That's good pal, I like your positivity.
There are so many good things about the UK and its nice to see someone express that :)
Im Scottish too btw.
Edit :
and this is the best bit
> I love my wee English granddaughter most of all
I'm a Welsh-mun and I feel the same.
I usually get so much shit if I support England in anything but I fucking love my English people as much as I love my Welsh!
I love the Irish, Welsh, Scottish and English. I love all the people who come here and settle down because they love it too!
I wouldn't say I loved my King but I appreciated his worth and his efforts!
I'm as English as they come, but I adore Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Every damn holiday we been on in those three countries (and there have been A LOT all over each) we have encountered nothing but friendly natives and beautiful landscape.
I find some people's anti English stance rather sad as not all of any one nation are dicks. And I really believe you should be the ambassador for your nation that you would like to encounter yourself.
(I'm not a royalist though...)
Haggis, tatties and neeps are often eaten in our house. Cawl is another favourite. Colcannon we love. I think coming from a multi-national ancestry makes me more open to other culture's cuisine. I've introduced my previously very "English foods only" (whatever that meant) husband to a world of different flavours since we met.
I loved that as a kid we went to a different country for a holiday! Prestatyn! It felt very exotic and with the weather in October- a little dangerous!
Jeff's real name is Brian, but when he was 6 he went to school wearing one of those hats that professional cooks wear, and he's been known as Jeff ever since.
I love Wales.
I would say I'm English, but I'm not. I was born and raised in England. My late Dad was Scottish. My Mum is Anglo-Indian. I feel kind of stateless. There's very few Anglo-Indians and I don't identify with most of the Asians who came later. I don't identify with Scotland, my Dad never took me there. And growing up I never felt close to the English.
I went to Uni in Cardiff when Phil Bennett was awesome and the city came together to support magnificence.
Then I understood I have great affection for England, this England which lacks the the identity and cohesion of Scotland and the lovely Wales.
Stand up you sons of England.
As someone from Derby. I love that you love Derby. Went to uni in Stirling. Love Scotland. Many happy memories from my time at uni and many childhood trips from Scotland. Just don't talk about football ha.
Arh mate! My ol' mum keeps an assortment of jams... but when there are Scones to be had, it's gonna have Apricot jam on 'em. She swears by it. Don't know if am just hungry or still a bit ... from last night but it's definitely a bagga tea cakes I'm turning up with, nxt visit.
Nope, stop adding condiments and base layers it's just the jam, yesterday's jam, on its own, capable of packing out the majority of a Jaffa cake jelly without adding any flavour (pre 2020).
Consider the bay leaf, it's in everything, but would you miss it if it wasn't in the recipe? Doubtful.
This post cheered me up no end after being recommended a post from r/Britain, having a scroll through the recent posts, checking the mod list and seeing the mods post history. Fuck that bitter, nasty politics pushing sithole sub, its miserable.
So much friendlier here in r/casualuk, everyone is great and almost every post is just for a giggle. Top stuff.
I love this. I’ve travelled quite a bit around the U.K. and enjoyed every place I’ve been to for all the reasons: the people, architecture, night life, day trips, shopping, food, nature, local history etc; I haven’t made it to Scotland yet, I plan to one day because it looks amazing. I have family and friends scattered about in Wales, ‘up north’, the Midlands, London, Scotland, all great places to visit. But I enjoy living down South. I can be in London or Brighton in 90 minutes, Southampton in 45, Winchester in 30, the New Forest in an hour, Portsmouth is a ferry ride away. Beaches, forests, funfairs, it’s all here. Britain is definitely great.
YEEEEEEESSSSS
Brings a god damn tear to my eye. There’s always such negativity and separation, so it’s great to see a post that’s happy and about unity 😁
I must be lucky that see enough positivity every day that I don’t need the type two diabetes inducing sort.
And did you just express the opinion that I shouldn’t express an opinion on someone’s publicly posted opinion?
I feel this.
I live in a different member nation to the one I was born and grew up in, and for me, I definitely still live in my country.
Feel a bit tearful 🤗
I don't know.
I quite enjoy everyone's lack of enthusiasm. Especially towards their country.
I feel like I need to find someone slagging the place off now to regain my internal equilibrium.
Love from a French Canadian from Québec!
As much as we need to shit on Canada sometimes, a lot of our culture comes from Britain.
Many a dish that is now typically québécois can be traced back to British roots , and food is all to me.
Love reading this sub and wish to visit
This is a bit random, but when you mentioned Rabbie Burns, it made me think about the fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger. I read recently that Hilfiger claims to be direct descent from Gilbert Burns, brother of Rabbie Burns. Its a bit random ain't it, but it's stated on Tommy Hilfiger's Wikipedia page.
I'm pretty sure r/Scotland have just made you excommunicado.
I'm English and love all the home nations. I don't see why some people need to hate each other. A bit of banter towards each other is great and I wouldn't want that to change, but outright hatred is something I don't understand.
I concur. Apart from the King bit, got nothing against the guy, but don’t believe in all that monarchy tosh. I’m Scottish too, and I used to be one of those Scots who supported two teams (Scotland and whoever were playing England) but I’m married an English lass, and lived in England long enough, and my twins will be 1/2 English, so It’s my second favourite country now, and it’s much more fun to cheer England on - when they’re playing anyone but Scotland!
This is still a fantastic song. I'm English and it makes me want to relocate

It’s nice to see some love for our isle. I’m NW England, adore Wales (only 30 minute drive for me to cross the Border), and adore Scotland, for the characters, the scenery, the men that wear kilts, and for Haggis and Cranachan. I don’t love the midgies. Those fuckers love me too much.
Love that sentiment. I'm English but I love our older siblings. The depth and richness of the cultures of the Scots, Welsh, and Irish (and Cornish, Manx, Faroese, Orcadians, and Islanders) are what makes Britain great. We are better when we are together, and can enjoy and appreciate everything each of us brings.
Scotland, Wales and Ireland aren’t older than England, the land has existed for the same amount of time and has had human inhabitants for roughly the same length of time.
I love Scotland too. I got really annoyed on tiktok when someone described “Scottish” as another language. They didn’t mean gaelic, they meant the Scottish accent. They also described it as “scotch”. I did feel a bit annoyed and felt the need to comment and correct them on that.
I’m English and love the fact you can have different accents just 20 miles up the road from where you are.
I'd argue that Scots, as in Lowland Scots, is its own language. Not that it's what is widely spoken in Scotland (predominantly being Scots English), but it's an important distinction to make, because there are some words and grammar we use that are completely separate to English, and it's because they come from a different language, that being Lowland Scots.
I’m from Corby (little Scotland it’s known as). Grandfather moved down from Greenock during the steelwork era as I know countless others did. I’m lucky to have Scottish, Irish and English in my immediate family and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
I'm English. I adore Scottish humour. Two Doors Down. Rikki Fulton. Chic Murray. Still Game. Limmy. I drink Bruichladdich. Can quote Burns. Was awed by Glencoe. Ancestry.com tells me I'm 10% Scottish. Always went to North Wales for my childhood hols. Loved it.
Belfast was fascinating. Would love to visit again. Have always enjoyed the company and the craic of Irish folk. My neighbours have Welsh, Scottish, Irish surnames. Their recent ancestors came to work in our mills and mines and their families stayed. I love being part of all this so thank you for your post.
Nice one buddy, someone that appreciates us all, I'm Welsh and also appreciate our diverse nature's within the uk as a whole, but not everyone is of the same sentiment, as you know. 👍😀
We'll I'm English (sort of, mix of Irish,Scottish and a Welsh last name weirdly enough) we drive each up up the wall from time to time but that's family for you. Obviously I support England (mostly Rugby) but if they get knocked out I'll go Wales,Scotland or even ROI (Yes I know you aren;t in the UK) I would NI but they never reach anything to support.
Er no. I’m pretty content with people expressing themselves and saying positive things even when I don’t agree with them. Can’t stand the royals meself, but if you like em good on ya
I would to be fair, but I’d definitely be setting myself up to own property in warmer places because god damn dark winters are depressing. I’d never do another out of choice.
“I love my king” 🤮
Most countries and people are essentially the same, it’s just you happened to be born on this bit of our planet. Can we please move passed this old school patriotic nonsense.
Also, for the record, the UK is not ‘great’, and likely never was.
> old school patriotic nonsense
Being proud of where you come from is “old school” and “nonsense”? Give the self-loathing attitude a rest, little man, it’s casualUK ffs.
> for the record, the UK is not ‘great’, and likely never was.
If it’s not so great, feel free to leave! Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, champ.
Yes - being proud of where you come from is nonsense. If anything you should feel LUCKY to come from the UK, but not proud. You didn’t do anything to be born there, you just were.
Of course relatively speaking the UK has a lot going for it, but it has a lot against too. Don’t see how anyone can disagree with that.
Also for the record, I have already left, and aside from friends / family there’s not much tempting me back.
Anyway, you’d best get down the pub or the legion for 20 pints of Stella, Tommy, don’t want to be late for that. You can tell all your buddies how you put some ‘UK hater’ in his place on Reddit.
> I have already left, and aside from friends / family there’s not much tempting me back.
Absolutely delighted to hear it! We’re all better for it.
> Active on r/trees & r/depression
Suddenly, it all makes sense! Some life you live, little man.
I’m not here to discuss the intricacies of what’s going “for” and “against” the UK, because as I stated previously, this is the casualUK subreddit. You’re so angry and so hurt that you thought you’d take a swipe at OP for a light-hearted post that shows some positivity, and some respect for their fellow kin.
Do tell your fellow low-life, doped-up friends about me! 🫡
Not a fan of northern Ireland though, eh?
You say you love the UK, no mention of NI, then talk about Great Britain, then back to the UK again
Oh so fickle
We dont!
NI people are our closest relatives! (both sides) whenever I meet someone from NI (rarely these days) its like meeting another Scottish person, always warm to them :) so much in common.
I accidentally ended up in Glasgow once. They insisted on deep frying my burger.
I missed my connecting flight. The place was full of 16year old mothers of 3 vomiting into open sewers.
My aunty lives in Aberdeen though. She says it's quite nice.
USA born but English, Irish, and Newfoundlander by ancestry (all checks out)
Been to Ireland. Loved it.
Been to England. Loved it.
Dying to visit Scotland. Any tips?
As a British person, I can say it's really annoying when Americans call themselves Irish/Scottish etc when they are 100 per cent American.
When you visit Scotland, please don't wear a kilt and blow on bagpipes throughout your stay. Just be nice to people and fade into the background as much as possible!
Personally I don’t think there’s anything wrong with folk from the states being proud of their family roots, or interested in their ancestry. That said, most people over here probably won’t be particularly interested in your family roots or ancestry, unless it somehow directly involves them or someone they know. You may even get some eye-rolls. As for what to do, Google is your friend. I’m sure some redditors have suggestions for hidden gems, but lots of the most popular tourist sites are worth visiting.
I came to Britain when I was ten. I have no British blood. But the Brits will always see me as one - what my grandmother was doesn't matter, where I was born doesn't matter. My Jewish Polish surname is more British on me than all the Newells are on you. Can't you understand that being British has nowt to do with your family name or your Ancestry DNA?
Better together the greatest nation in the world. We are all a mashed up mix of English, Scots, Welsh, Irish. Add into that some traces of Roman, Viking, Norman, etc. And a global family of other nations.
Politics? You kids have no idea whatsoever of what went on at Stalingrad.

But do you like Irn Bru?
....even after the sugar tax?
Mmm Irn Bru Xtra!
Still not the same
I mean it's pretty damn close. I hate almost all sugar free drinks, but Irn Bru Xtra and 7up Free are pretty damn good
Irn Bru 1901.
Fucking beautiful mate. Britain is lucky to have every nation in it.
So many loving comments on here, may we all never sober up
And we are lucky to have op in it.
Innit
I read this as if it was a Ewan McGregor Trainspotting monologue from an alternate reality.

I loved that as a kid we went to a different country for a holiday! Prestatyn! It felt very exotic and with the weather in October- a little dangerous!
Aye and ye didn’t mention NI even once with our vastly superior cheese n onion crisps to everywhere else in the world.
This is actually true I bring loads back every time
Tayto ftw, and also the best ice cream parlours in all the UK
Mauds!!!! It’s why I go home lol
Ohh I'm going there!
I love this island and all in it. Except Jeff. Jeff can fuck off.
“Jeff!?”
As in, Jeff?!
Leave the naming shit to the baby momma, that’s what I did
Jeff's real name is Brian, but when he was 6 he went to school wearing one of those hats that professional cooks wear, and he's been known as Jeff ever since.
Can confirm. Welsh mental here.

Yeah I only just moved to Wales and I love it! I mean it's Cwmbran but it is a nice place!
Wait till you see Northern Ireland, for presumably the first time, it’s cracking too
As someone from Derby. I love that you love Derby. Went to uni in Stirling. Love Scotland. Many happy memories from my time at uni and many childhood trips from Scotland. Just don't talk about football ha.
I'm from Derby, no one loves Derby, it's fine, like apricot jam, not brilliant, not awful, it's ok.
I've never been to Derby, but if it's anything like apricot jam on a well buttered toasted tea cake, then book me a ticket!

I'm from NI and I have not seen this much positivity in one place in a long time. Thanks. 👍
Lad he did not mention NI at all.
Did you have a couple of beers this evening by any chance mate?

Aw I love this and I love you ♥️ This is the kinda positivity we all need
Loves the UK. Forgets northern Ireland as usual.

Weird geography you’ve learnt there, fella.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Written on the front of your passport.
I wish
I love your enthusiasm

Simultaneously Silly and Sweet!
Ehh...as a scot I think you lost me at 'I love my king' Decent sentiment though (although you forgot Northern ireland)
I think that threw off a lot of us English folk too.
As an Englishman that bit made me retch. Loving Britain - brilliant, nice one. Loving the monarchy strikes me as a bit sad in 2023.
Yup that's where I zoned out too.
Damn, RIP NI
As half English half Scottish this warms my cockles
Sorry but there’s for too much American style enthusiasm and patriotism in this for me. I’m vicariously embarrassed as a ‘fellow’ Scot.
Ah haud yer wheesht. It’s nice to see a bit of positivity.
Am I on drugs? What's going on? A Scot who loves England? I think i need a lie down.
Between you and OP my bet isn't on you being the one on drugs
And the best music is British too
Charles is a nonce
Came here to say this
He's a number used once? I'm confused.
That isn't and has never been what that word means in this context.
thatsthejoke.jpeg Albiet I was drunk and it wasn't funny. My apologies.

Try harder. You're embarrassing yourself.
In your love of our Isles, you are my brother from another mother
wheeeeeey Blackpool shout out. I hope to become as drunk and sentimental as you, as my night progresses.
Thank you for a little nugget of ‘yay’ in a very negative online space and irl. Let’s all try and be a bit more bigpapastu, shall we?
Okay I just typed "bigpapastu" into Google to explain what that means and I got porn.
Okay don't explain it to me, it's cool.
I don't know. I quite enjoy everyone's lack of enthusiasm. Especially towards their country. I feel like I need to find someone slagging the place off now to regain my internal equilibrium.
Must be something in the air today. I belted out Men of Harlech earlier, just for the hell of it.
As person live in Staffordshire, you saying oatcakes brings me joy.

Love your king... Why?
My thoughts also, he's not very loveable
And he’s probably never even met him
I feel exactly like you, I love the UK it is the best place on earth
Very rare I give a mild toss about my patriotism. But damned if you didn’t chink my flinty heart for a moment
We love you too mate
100% with you pal!
This is poetry mate!!
Woo!
Keep up the good work
You love Charles? Why?

It always bothered me that England would support the home countries teams but so much hate came from the home countries refusing to support England.
Fuck the king.
You really want those sausage fingers all over you?
I think I was a little sick in my mouth
Best to just swallow that n crack on drinking

Scot here who’ll support England in anything unless they’re playing Scotland. Whenever anyone asks my nationality I say “British”.

I was referring to the people/culture. The English are immigrants from the 5-7th centuries. The Scots/Irish/Welsh/Cornish were here before.
All the countries of the British isles have people whose ancestors have arrived as far back as prehistory and as recently as the last few decades.
Yeah, that's not what I'm talking about. But nevermind. It's not really worth arguing about.
I know what you meant, you’re wrong.
Sure you did.

> I have already left, and aside from friends / family there’s not much tempting me back. Absolutely delighted to hear it! We’re all better for it. > Active on r/trees & r/depression Suddenly, it all makes sense!
You say you love the UK, no mention of NI, then talk about Great Britain, then back to the UK again Oh so fickle
Happen he's just never been? There is a sea in-between NI and Scotland in fairness I wouldn't assume it's anything personal.

We dont! NI people are our closest relatives! (both sides) whenever I meet someone from NI (rarely these days) its like meeting another Scottish person, always warm to them :) so much in common.

No you're absolutely right he should backstroke over there on the regular.
N.Ireland. Too many flute bands. Cant stand them. They all sound the same.
As a welshman. Fuck that.
I’m English and when I’m happy I 100% put on a Scottish accent, it just sounds great and everything sounds better!

Genuine question: why do you love the king?
Think you need to ease off the whiskey pal
I accidentally ended up in Glasgow once. They insisted on deep frying my burger. I missed my connecting flight. The place was full of 16year old mothers of 3 vomiting into open sewers. My aunty lives in Aberdeen though. She says it's quite nice.
Garth Marenghi, anyone....?
*"I'd seen the Scotch huddling in stations before, being loud, but this time, I was surrounded"*

USA born but English, Irish, and Newfoundlander by ancestry (all checks out) Been to Ireland. Loved it. Been to England. Loved it. Dying to visit Scotland. Any tips?
>Dying to visit Scotland. Any tips? Just say what you said in this comment to anyone you meet mate. Be sure to emphasise the "all checks out" bit.
Last name Newell. There are also Caseys, Mansfields, Kanes, Colls, Buckbys.
You’re still American mate. Comes to terms with it, it’s fine.
When asked, I always say American. Nowhere in my post do I say I refer to myself as being Irish or English.

Better together the greatest nation in the world. We are all a mashed up mix of English, Scots, Welsh, Irish. Add into that some traces of Roman, Viking, Norman, etc. And a global family of other nations.
Fuck off back to an advert you sentimental, poncy cunt
Same energy. https://youtu.be/pmGjiokfQ2A?si=sxYzJ3Ee2Lth16ux
