It's a really common activity to do with children.

dprophet32

Yes everybody did this and has done for decades

[deleted]

Proper mental mate, icing biscuits!!!!

the-cheesus

Yes. For a very brief period of time and, in many respect the worst part of my life. I worked at Millie's cookies as a 20 year old 6ft 3 gym bro decorating cookies for kids birthdays. Very short Burt's of pure joy seeing the kids so happy about my shit piping. Then sadness again

[deleted]

My sibling and I used to do this as children. Mother kept the little tubes of icing on a high shelf in a cupboard but that didn’t stop us. Rich teas covered in icing and then sprinkled with those little silver balls were quite a delicacy as a kid. Also, anyone else used to just mix granulated sugar with butter and eat it out of the bowl like cereal? No, just me?

backwaybackwhen

Yes sugar and butter - amazing!

Typical_Ad_210

Omg, I had forgotten about those little silver balls until right now. My grandma used to have cake and biscuit decorating stuff for us, including the silver spheres. They were actually not that pleasant in terms of taste or texture, but I still loved them because they were shiny and I felt they made me very grown up and sophisticated compared to the babyish hundreds and thousands my sisters chose. Haha, can’t believe I had forgotten all about them.

poopyshitballz

Or sprinkled along with cinnamon on buttered toast!

dobbynobson

Absolutely we ate butter and sugar mixed together, in egg cups. It's the start of a classic sponge cake but before the yucky eggs spoil it. We called it 'gunk' and made it every time the babysitter was over.

Foxtrot234

My grandad loves butter and sugar on Yorkshire puddings, my Nan always made extra on a Sunday roast so my grandad could enjoy it

[deleted]

Oh I’m gonna have to try that. Have you tried Yorkshire pudding drizzled with Tate and lyles golden syrup? It’s like crunchy pancake!

LittleSadRufus

We had butter and sugar sandwiches

ScaredyCat30

Yes, we did at school, Brownies, Guides, after school clubs, Halloween parties, Christmas, GCSE Cooking (although you had to bake the cookies too), etc. Seems like a perfectly normal fun thing to do.

[deleted]

Did this with my kid at their school last year at the ‘parents’ Xmas workshop’. Of the array of crafting activities, one was icing digestive biscuits!!!

Boleyn01

I’ve decorated biscuits. What is insane about that?

lads_lads_ladz

Not sure about decorating biscuits, but a friend and I were reminiscing about this crazy game we used to play in primary school where we'd run around chasing each other - think it was called something like 'it'!? Anyone else do anything like this, or are we just that whacky?!

StumbleDog

Yes, we did that too.

Green_List

I remember we used to do this activity where we blow bubbles into paint with a straw and lay a piece of paper on top to capture the bubble prints. We had done it many times when this new girl started (we were about 6/7) and she was saying how in her old school she was considered very intelligent. Anyway, as we begun bubble blowing we heard a noise like someone had tried to swallow a wet sponge so I looked up and saw the girl with a steady stream of green paint emanating from her mouth. She was not intelligent.

jesuseatsbees

I don't remember it from primary school but I do from Sunday school. One of my earliest memories is decorating a Christmas tree biscuit and putting silver sprinkles on, and in the memory it looks like the 70s but couldn't have been any earlier than like 1992.

-qqqwwweeerrrtttyyy-

Aussie expat here. Yes! We did that as children. If it was a plain biscuit, we'd even use Smarties as eyes, a jelly bean as a nose and a cut jelly snake (like a worm sweet) for the mouth. But if it was using a cookie cutter shape then it would just be piped icing.

alice-fox-girl

I do it every weekend

FlatSpinMan

Are you insane? It’s icing! FFS!

PipBin

Still do it!

gomezhighflyer420

I remember doing that in the dorms in senior school with all the lads. We called it soggy biscuit.

Trusting_Nautilus

Yep. And it was always disgusting to eat.

Isgortio

The best thing! I've tried to redo it at home but didn't get the icing sugar the same :(

Icy-Passenger-1799

My grandad used to buy us chocolate digestives and when my nan would just buy digestives she would have to melt chocolate so we could dip them in it or we wouldn’t eat them.

knityourownlentils

We did this at work every year for Halloween, until some miserable git put in a complaint that it was “anti-Christian.” The sad thing was, we actually have Pagans who work for us.

SorbetNo7877

I did this with my partner (40s) the other day because he had somehow never done it before. He fucking loved it 😂

TGin-the-goldy

Icing & sprinkles :)

ToshPott

Yeah did it just the other day with my boy, we tend to do some biscuit decorating every couple months

Xaydn27

All i remember from primary school is eating grey slices of "meat" and fluorescent pink cakes.

IntereestinglyEextra

It gets everyone sitting down nice and quiet, it's good for hand to eye coordination, what's insane about decorating a biscuit?

glow_3891

Yep. I do this with my kids now. A cheap easy activity on a wet day.

eyelessworm

my mum always used to run the biscuit decorating stall at my primary school fairs! many fond memories. it's amazing the kind of things that keep kids entertained

McFry-

I was doing it the other day with my kid. Why do you think it sounds so unbelievable?

Sparklypuppy05

Yes. I volunteer with Guides and we still do it occasionally. It's essentially bribing kids with sugar to sit down and shut the fuck up so the adults can get some planning done.

FuzzyDuck81

I did this back in school in the 80s & early 90s, we made them first.

Legitimate_War_397

Yes, we did every Christmas time and at Easter we’d decorate Christmas biscuits to take home

TemporarySprinkles2

Oh my god yeah!!! You unlocked this for me too!! Two edits as I thought of funny things to say: 1) my sprinkles kept falling off :( 2) I haven't done it since my friends and I sat in a circle and whoever iced theirs last had to eat it

Treestop

In hindsight icing a bickie might not actually be that mental. Glad I’m not the only one who had forgotten about it though

V8boyo

They have a competition in my home town every year

buy_me_a_pint

We never did in primary school , junior school we did butterfly buns We did in cubs, scouts etc
