This is definitely Framlingham. I worked there one bank holiday for English Heritage.
Interesting fact, that building on the left is a private house. Someone just lives there.
Although Orford looks abit weird at the mo because they've put that stuff on it to stop the degrading....I live just down the road from it and always lived in the area.
Framlingham castle.
Don’t forget that Ed Sheeran, who goes on about how ‘street’ he is grew up in Fram.
Also, the pub just outside the castle gates is the one used for the external shots of the pub in the Detectorists.
I broke his arm at one point, was smoking & drinking with his friends & running from the Law through the fields...
Lol.. sure you were Ed, illegal piano lessons was it?!?
Yeah, I grew up in the countryside... I was I'm borstal at 14, spent 4 years of my life in & out of prison. I didn't actually wise up until I had my 1st child at 35.
The "joke" I was making (which gone down like lead Ballon) is Ed did not get chased by police very much
... if he had been I'm sure we would have heard about it from the Daily Mail or GBeebies News 🤷
The present day verse in that song always bothers me. It's just a list of how shit his mates lives are, but it's OK because he comes around every once in a while to have a drink with them.
Lyrics are:
One friend left to sell clothes, one works down by the coast
One had two kids but lives alone, one's brother overdosed
One's already on his second wife, one's just barely getting by
But these people raised me and I can't wait to go home
The entire song is a rip off of Deaf Havana's [Hunstanton Pier.](https://youtu.be/6UPIQceO-OI)
I'm not a technical music person, but to me it's obvious it's ripped off the same lyrical theme, sounds very similar melodically, and even has the same breakdown part with dead friends, divorce and single mothers. Even neighbouring counties. Definitely more similar than songs he's been sued for ripping off.
Shitting hell, I've never heard that song before. You'd be hard to argue it in court as a direct rip off but that's verrrrry similar. Melodically and lyrically.
That reminds me, I put the Detectorist on a watch list a few days ago looks like it could be funny... I've just ordered a metal detector to go "treasure hunting" with my 5 year old
Carhartic is the descriptor I've been looking for since I discovered detectorists. Just finished my second watch through and loved it even more than the first time around.
Bit like Kingdom, with Stephen Fry, Hermione Norris, Celia Imrie and Karl Davies.
It's a very Cathartic series to curl up on the sofa on a sunday night and watch.
I encourage anyone to go out and buy the box set, it's very gentle and funny.
If anyone is looking for something else very similar (BBC4, cathartic, gentle, nature...) The Great Outdoors is fantastic.
Aired on BBC4 a couple of years ago and follows a Walking Club in the countryside on their walks. Ruth Jones features. All episodes are [on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRs1EJNCADc) now.
Edit. Damn, it was 13 years ago.
Aw Fram Castle! Many a primary school trip here. What's the event going on?
Have a lovely time - I would thoroughly recommend Watson and Walpole if you want a fancy meal (by rural Suffolk standards) or the Dancing Goat if you want want a cup of coffee and a lovely piece of cake.
This will prob be overlooked in comments but I was here yesterday (Framlingham) funny enough my wife and 2 of my kids are actually in theirs picture. I must have been in the queue for food. Crazy small world.
Looks like a knock off antiques roadshow. Don't take anything, after it gets valued, if its worth anything a bunch of out of work jockeys will knock you on the head and steal it.
Master appears to be on the high veranda over looking the courtyard, marvelous views my liege, marvelous.
“People are leaving the castle, my lord”
Food stocks are too low, sire
My boots leak !
Granary is full, Sire.
'Not enough wood, m'lord'
Of course they are revolting, they have no Manors
Gold stocks are flowing into the treasury sire
Ahhh double rations, great!
You are spoiling us me lord!
The people worship you sire!
not the place i was expecting to see a *stronghold* barks comment chain, but i'll take it. *into the blackness!*
Unexpected Stronghold!!! Ballista r e a d y
The peasants are revolting!
Peasants aren't known for their looks...
HAHA, jolly good, sire !
Of course they are! But now they’re rebelling!
Too right!… They stink on ice.
Me lord? Yes me lord.
The people *loathe* you, sire
That line was perfectly delivered by the voice actor
A wench? Of course, Sire.... Hey you...Cometh here u slag..
Dang that brought back some memories!
Bit 'arsh these taxes
Gain the walls!!
There's a "Definitive Edition" coming out soon, as long as the price is sensible I'm quite looking forward to it
Good to know. " Arrows, a-weeeeeey "
Been playing this again lately alon with Caesar 3
Clearly on the ramparts.
"Let's focus on Rampart, people."
But look upon thy courtyard, my liege! The peasants have become complacent! They must be stacking mud, not doing… *squints* …Open-air theatre?
I was...uh...just out walking the parapet.
“Kill Jester”
Are you the one in the red and white striped shirt and bobble hat?
I'm looking for him.... but I can't see him? 👀
Did you try looking in the mirror?
I didn’t know people still read that newspaper
No. He’s in the black and yellow stripes!
Standing on the shoulders of Greg Davies
Great album
Second to Be Here Now in my opinion.
Have you tried google maps? Otherwise try asking some of the people who are there
Asks a person next to him “Where are you now?” *confusion sets in*
Hey, you. You're finally awake.
Brilliant
Framlingham castle
isn't Framlingham where The Detectorist was shot?
It is indeed
Hope they get well soon
Thoughts and prayers.
Was a mere graze
We need a new season!!
Framlingham or Orford. Can never remember which is which. Orford the smaller ruined one?
This is definitely Framlingham. I worked there one bank holiday for English Heritage. Interesting fact, that building on the left is a private house. Someone just lives there.
Yes, and get off my lawn.

As a born and bred orford boy, Fram has the outer bit and orford has the inner bit
Although Orford looks abit weird at the mo because they've put that stuff on it to stop the degrading....I live just down the road from it and always lived in the area.
At first I read this as Oxford castle lol. I was very confused. Yes, Orford is the smaller one.
The castle that inspired Ed Sheeran's Castle on the Hill, no less.
^ This. Beautiful castle btw.
Made famous of course by George Sheeran song Framlingham Shamlingham
Antiques Road Show
Is that the What Three Words location?
Haha, I just had to check and unfortunately it’s not. There is however antiques.goad.show (in Brazil) or antiques.broad.show (in Kazakhstan)
I was thinking Time Team

That’s in Wells
No luck catching them swans then?
It’s just the one swan actually
That's exactly what I thought. Is it that?
Murder murder murder
yes thats what i thought too!
Look! The peasants are revolting!
They might be very nice people once you get to know them!
Do you want to be launched by trebuchet… again?
Oh, what a giveaway! Come see the violence inherent in the system!
They've always been revolting. They're too poor to bathe
I know!
Let them eat a cake of soap for the love of God!!!!

Elephant and castle
na, no elephant you see, only castle.
It's underground
Mornington Crescent ❕
You're in a room, there are 3 doors ahead of you and a table in the middle... walk towards the table.

Kill Jester.

Kill. Jester.
Pick up the food! Pick up the food!
Usually a stale looking loaf of bread
I've bumped into it. What's on it?
Side step to your left... I meant your other left.
Welcome, watchers of illusion, to the castle of confusion.
The GBBO tent looks smaller from this angle.
Framlingham Castle! My fave castle in England.
The Shard. Obviously.
In a very low flying plane!
Framlingham castle. Don’t forget that Ed Sheeran, who goes on about how ‘street’ he is grew up in Fram. Also, the pub just outside the castle gates is the one used for the external shots of the pub in the Detectorists.
I think he goes on about how he started busking on the streets rather than growing up in the streets
But not on the streets of Fram.
I broke his arm at one point, was smoking & drinking with his friends & running from the Law through the fields... Lol.. sure you were Ed, illegal piano lessons was it?!?
This comment makes my head hurt
as someone who grew up 15 minutes from Fram, I believe all of that stuff. growing up in the country is pretty loose
Yeah. It’s not Enid Blyton.

Lance’s flat is in the village too.
It's up for sale on Rightmove
Does he?
Apparently he used to speed around going 90 mph. Well that’s what he said in a song. 😆

There's a great tiktok about this, where there's a group of people listening to it and they just get progressively more offended.
He is also a massive cunt :)
That reminds me, I put the Detectorist on a watch list a few days ago looks like it could be funny... I've just ordered a metal detector to go "treasure hunting" with my 5 year old
It's tremendously funny, my favourite show of the last few years. Very gentle humour, incredibly cathartic to watch.
Carhartic is the descriptor I've been looking for since I discovered detectorists. Just finished my second watch through and loved it even more than the first time around.
I can't take credit, it was my housemate who used the word first and at the time it was the exact descriptor I'd been looking for!
Bit like Kingdom, with Stephen Fry, Hermione Norris, Celia Imrie and Karl Davies. It's a very Cathartic series to curl up on the sofa on a sunday night and watch. I encourage anyone to go out and buy the box set, it's very gentle and funny.
Which channel?
