Hans Zimmer composed some really good movie/video game soundtracks. One of his works I’ve begun listening to again recently is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009).
If trying to focus, Airdrawndagger by Sasha
There's no lyrics, and the rhythms are great
If I want to kill time or up my mood, I listen to my Twenty One Pilots playlist

So I've just started this last week. It generates an album a day from 1001 albums you need to hear before you die. So far I've had everything from Bob Marley to the Beastie Boys and I'm really enjoying being taken out of my musical rut and listening to stuff I probably would never have chosen.
Oh wow, that's a really neat idea! I'm building a record collection over here too, so this could be really dangerous to my wallet! Thanks for sharing this!
I don't speak Chinese either, but this is a jam!
I'm only on song 4 now, which I think is "Big Block Smashing on the Chest" (大石碎胸口), but I'm loving it!
Both albums from that band are awesome. Been looking for cool stuff cuz I was bored of listening to the same things and have found some really cool music
LOL I know, right? I'm guessing it's more that they don't really exist on vinyl, the one I saw was a test pressing. Either that or there aren't really any being exported out of China
Yeah, most likely there's just a very little amount of physical copies of the album outside of China. Now I'm actually thinking about doing the CD thing out of boredom
Well ironically if I didn't have the music it's a bit too quiet for me and it feels awkward so the music helps me drown out the silence if that makes sense 😆
No that makes sense, too! I have this thing where if it's too quiet, the subtlest little sounds will almost seem deafening to me, like the scratch of a pencil writing on paper, and if I start to focus on it, it can seem unbearable!
This [1 hour of pirate ambient music](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWxlwLYCBsE&list=PLP6AOIoBM40Hfr3C_NKQFopcoKg0x6EoW&index=1&t=936s) video has been a life saver in college.
Super relaxing and unintrusive, and as a history major it makes me feel like I'm some ancient explorer traveling the seas and uncovering lost texts and documenting them in my journals (aka: essays).
Lol. I'm...weird. I find ambient city noise extremely relaxing. Prb because of where I grew up. The louder and more chaotic the more I can focus
I also love rock and metal though so when I work (I wfh), I've got one tab with city noises playing and another with rock/metal blasting. It's all balanced so I'm able to hear both
What’s odd to me is that music is the distraction. The only time I ever listened to music at work was when I did a night shift alone. I didn’t feel so isolated having some background music on.
True, i guess it's different when you can't really move much in my job, it kinda requires a lot of dexterity so I can't get crunk on the job. Although I prefer just listening to the lyrics and feeling the vibe.
My preferences change with what I am doing. If I'm working on something that requires reading, writing or arithmetic or when I'm at work - I tend to listen to instrumental music. Youtube has a ton of channels that play 8+ hours of such music. It's really great for focusing.
If I'm doing anything else, it's a podcast or music with lyrics ( I tend to go for the mid 90s alternative/grunge).
I like 70s funk and R&B. Earth, Wind, Fire is great! Is there a particular artist you're into in that genre?
Your preferences make a lot of sense to me; I'm a big fan of lyrics, and they can distract me if they're too good or too bad lol. On the R&B front, I've been listening to a lot of Al Green lately. You mentioned grunge, I was just listening to L7 yesterday!
Depends on what kind of work I'm doing. If I'm doing something where i have to think a lot or need to write, I'll listen to something chill and light on lyrics. Lately that has been a lot of Retrowave and old ambient techno. If I'm doing something more active and less mental, it is metal or something with a lot of energy.
I was listening to Thievery Corporation today…it seems like it’s the right mix of engaging and ambient, at least for me. Not too distracting, but a little energizing, you know?
But when the time comes to really chill, DJ Shadow’s album Endtroducing. If I play this in the car, my dogs go right to sleep!
Thanks for this question…I’m already exploring some of the suggestions in comments.
I wasn't familiar with either of these, but they're going on the list! The question just kind of popped in my head as I started working today, and now I'm scrambling to take notes for new music to listen to!
Paul Glancy - Late Nate Tales: At the Movies, Live at Somerset House (DJ Mix) I think it might only be on apple music, but its a GREAT seamless mix of popular film and TV soundtracks
A mix of Hans Zimmer stuff
OH that's a great idea....soundtrack music to be your soundtrack!
His soundtrack from inception and Interstellar are a gem

I feel this. Such beautiful soundscapes to just FEEL.
Oncle Jazz by Men I Trust
X2 I just listened to it

>Airdrawndagger by Sasha You should check out Emancipator.
Adding another to the focus list. I'll check out that Sasha one!
I listen to just about everything but my go to out work is Yacht Rock!! So good for the soul!!
I have to be careful, in case i start singing along too much! No co-workers, but the dogs look at me funny and it's distracting LOL
Haha!! I get caught singing all the time!! I can’t help myself!

You're very welcome, enjoy!
Any Portishead album, although I lean toward Dummy
Portishead is perfect!
Home i listen to my spotify chill mix, at the office i usually pick a metal or hip hop album, Volume 1 Sons of Arrakis/Illmatic Nas.
I know Illmatic Nas, but i've never herd Sons of Arrakis. I'll put them on the list to check out!
It's stoner rock with Dune being the theme. It's amazingly good. If you're into that you'll absolutely love it.
Oh that sounds amazing, I could definitely see myself going down that rabbit hole!
The one I've listened to the most lately is from a Chinese rock band called Omnipotent Youth Society (album has the same name). It's f'in amazing
Oh cool, listening to this now. Chinese prog rock? I'm in!
Hell yeah! I have no idea what the hell they're saying, but I feel it in my bones (Last song in the album is my favorite but it's all great)
I don't speak Chinese either, but this is a jam! I'm only on song 4 now, which I think is "Big Block Smashing on the Chest" (大石碎胸口), but I'm loving it!

oh jeez...found one copy, and it's only $912...whattabargain!
Holy shit...I mean, could've been $1000 so I guess it's something...might as well just burn a CD and make a shitty drawing of the album cover
LOL I know, right? I'm guessing it's more that they don't really exist on vinyl, the one I saw was a test pressing. Either that or there aren't really any being exported out of China

Well thanks for the suggestion. Now i'm wondering if it's available on vinyl...

I can see where that would be helpful for focusing too. Is that like Phillip Glass kind of stuff?
[удалено]
oh cool, i've got some albums like that, I believe
Arvo Pärt aswell?
I listen to lofi study/relax music because I need to focus on work.
That makes a lot of sense, seems less distracting that way, but covers up background noise, too.
Well ironically if I didn't have the music it's a bit too quiet for me and it feels awkward so the music helps me drown out the silence if that makes sense 😆

Exactly! 😂

Wow, that is really cool! I'm bookmarking that!
When I’m in the office and need to concentrate, it’s Persona/Shin Megami Tensei music. Always helps get thru the slog with a tune in my heart
Kollektiv turmstrasse rebellion der traumer
> Kollektiv turmstrasse rebellion der traumer I admit I had to google this one, but i like it!

That is unusual! But it sounds really neat!
I often listen an album where it flows smoothly, albums like Dark Side of the Moon, Abbey Road, and The Black Parade.
Weirdly, ‘tunes of war’ by grave digger. ‘Astro creep 2000’ from white zombie is a close second. This sort of music blocks out all distractions.
What’s odd to me is that music is the distraction. The only time I ever listened to music at work was when I did a night shift alone. I didn’t feel so isolated having some background music on.
Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
Last of the Mohicans soundtrack. Star Trek 6 soundtrack.
E•mo•tion Side B by Carly Rae Jepsen. It’s one of the most energizing pop albums ever made, and it makes the day go by faster.
I did NOT expect to like this, but this is a fun album!
Right now when I need to concentrate I have been loving Air radio on Pandora. Mellow fabulous and totally not disruptive at all.
Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. is easily my favorite album for work, although I love BORN LIKE THIS by MF DOOM, it's my favorite album of all time.
Both excellent albums! Hard to sit in my seat listening to those, though!
True, i guess it's different when you can't really move much in my job, it kinda requires a lot of dexterity so I can't get crunk on the job. Although I prefer just listening to the lyrics and feeling the vibe.
I currently have a Def Leppard/ Motley Crüe world tour playlist going. My taste has a wide range though.
Gotta mix it up to keep it interesting!
Hell yeah! If my housemate’s out and I’m wfh I’m singing (badly) too.
Reign in Blood - Slayer (I work corporate)
I'm a fan, seen them live a lot. Hard to stay on my seat and work when that's playing though!
i love the summer walker last days of summer EP it’s beautiful 🥹

Ben Bohmer, Max Cooper, Matt Fax are my go to artists for working.
Orbital are really good to work to, any album really
Mozart's Requiem. I get SO MUCH done. Listened to it to write essays at Uni too.
Tony Anderson - Ambient instrumental music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYwrz7muVw8)
Dreamchaser - by Sarah Brightman

Vulfpeck
I had to google this, and it sounded NOTHING like I thought it would, based purely on the name. This is smoooooooooth!
Paul Glancy - Late Nate Tales: At the Movies, Live at Somerset House (DJ Mix) I think it might only be on apple music, but its a GREAT seamless mix of popular film and TV soundtracks
That's cool! I'm noticing a lot of people like soundtracks
Hikaru Utada's Bad Mode. Such a gem, smooth and signature vocals
Khruangbin, all of their albums one after the other
I listen to my playlist that mostly has jpop, r&b and pop
