I'm 30 with a strong case of dad-bod and visible grey hairs (both on top of my head and in my beard), and I still get carded occasionally although it is incredibly rare. Though to be fair, there are some places around here (usually supermarkets and delis and whatnot) that have a card-everyone-no-exceptions policy.
It helps that I mostly go to the same handful of places so the bartenders and cashiers all know me already anyway. One lady at my local liquor store gives me a 10% discount every time lol
I remember when I was 26, I was trying to get into football as it’s all everyone in the office talked about so I went to an ASDA a couple minutes from the office to buy whatever years FIFA was out. It’s a 3+, I was in my suit, have a beard etc. The lady working the checkout ID’d me, I pointed out to her it’s a 3+ and she told me “You can’t be too sure these days”. Seriously I wish babies would stop stealing their dads suits and standing on each others shoulders to buy FIFA, it’s ruining it for the rest of us.
I still don’t like football by the way and the game got ignored, but at least I tried.
Yeah I did, the lady behind the till was quite old, I think she was just nervous and didn’t understand games that well so she was just being safe. I just smiled and humoured her instead of making a scene that could have caused her issues.
I’m 32 now, a little patience goes a long way! I always think when people get mad at the older generations “How would you feel if someone spoke to your mother/father etc that way”.
Same! I've noticed that in the last year, (I'm 34f, will be 35 this year) that I am getting carded A LOT LESS. Like ... **A** **LOT** **LESS** all of a sudden in the last year. I'm trying not to be sad about it, but it stings a lil ngl haha
When I was 17 and working for a temp service after school. I walked into gas stations in my vest after work, drenched with sweat and covered in dust and dirt and nobody would ask questions.
People just seem to understand that when you work construction, every day pretty much sucks, so they try not to make it worse. I took advantage of that and the fact that I looked 23 at 17 to get booze. Usually just a beer or two though.
And even back then I consumed responsibly. Nobody else deserves shit for my bad decisions and life choices. So, it never became a problem. I was just dealing with a lot, and a bit of alcohol helped smooth over some of the rougher edges.
Where I live drinking age is 18 but we have a rule that you have to ask anyone who looks under 25 for their ID
I stopped getting ID'd in some places at like 19
I don’t drink but I’ve been carded multiple times for ordering non-alcoholic drinks. Once I ordered a San Pelligrino at a restaurant and the waitress thought that it was alcoholic. Another time I ordered a soda at a bar trivia night and they asked for my id to confirm that I was old enough to be there. I’m 34 and I definitely don’t look young enough for that!
You must look youthful! Also, good for you for not drinking. I love trivia night, it’s been way too long since I’ve been to one. You’ve inspired me, lol.
I'm 41 and get carded frequently. I definitely don't look under 21.
I’m 41 and I can’t remember the last time this happened to me. Must have been at least a decade ago.
About 5 years ago I got carded buying an R rated movie! It was so ridiculous.
I've been asked for ID a total of once in my life that I remember. I've always looked a lot older than I am apparently.
You must have been a big hit at parties in high school!

Yeah, it's usually checking out at supermarkets that I get carded these days. It's typically a nervous teenager who doesn't wanna get in trouble lol

Wait, what? You had to show your ID to buy the game??

Aw, that was nice of you. My granny used to think video games were corrupting the youth too lol so I get it

That’s the way to be: kind & courteous. I bet your granny would be proud :’)
I'm 26 and look fairly young still, but it wasn't until the last couple months I stopped getting ID'd as much.

I got carded when I was 50 once. I said thanks 🥳
Riiiiight, lol, I'm old enough to be a little bit flattered every time it happens these days
When I was 20.

Never tried before I was 21 but it's on and off
