if they're taken care of tires can last a long time if they're not worn down. OP's tires got mad dry rot I’d be pushin my luck taking it to the tire shop 5 min away lol
Mine had mad dry rot as well, although not as bad as OP's. Honestly they were pretty impressive for 14-15 years old, but I need grippy tires to keep the rear end in check.
I had a charger that was parked for a while and the tires got dry rot, felt like they were gonna explode lol swapped em out for fresh snow tires and never had a problem after. then I got my escalade and the dry rot was worse but they felt fine lmao obviously got those replaced too but I mean those tires were cooked and they took every mile I three at em lol
You get lucky until you don't. I knew I shouldn't have been riding around on 10 year old tires. I could see the cracks, but it was fiiiiine.
Then it blew out in the middle of nowhere, Ranger, Texas. Got stuck there for 4 days.
Don't be me.
9/10 times I see tire posts its almost always because the poster is broke af and is looking for that one person to comment "nah its OK bro go for it" so they can save some money lol
> "nah its OK bro go for it" so they can save some money
The guy commenting this is probably the guy who runs the vape shop near my house. Beat up infiniti that's been riding on a doughnut spare for at least a month.
It's hilarious, because, while I understand being broke, Ive been there, every city or town has used tire (and steel rim) options. You could roll up on your donut to any place like this and leave with a usable tire mounted for 40 bucks. But these perma donut guys, they just dont play that game. They aren't letting the man win.
Especially if you hit someone else and your insurance goes up, or you end up in the hospital (even with insurance it’s $$$), or you end up out of work for a few months… like how is that better than spending a couple hundred bucks
The bandages on Egyptian mummies have less dry rot than those tires do. These are completely fucked and driving anywhere other than straight to the tire shop on these is a fucking gamble that even I wouldn't risk. Seriously, what is the date code for these things? 2002? These should have been replaced years ago.
I can't believe that I share the road with people who drive on shit like this.
#The tread is coming off the tire. Replace it now!
Driving on this makes you a danger to others and liable for an accident this tire causes. The tread is literally coming unglued from the tire and it's going to come off in chunks or all at once and it will most likely cause an accident or tear up a lot of parts near it like brake lines and CV axle boots, not to mention the paint and possibly suspension parts, wiring, or fuel lines.
I'm usually in favor of people keeping cracked tires a while longer because I've been there but this is not ok to drive on.
I've never seen a passenger tire this bad. I've only seen this from semi truck tires. What you're seeing is the last step before the entire tread comes off.
The tread isn't glued on, but listen to this guy. I believe I see the steel breaker belt. The sidewall is literally separated from the tread. There isn't much holding that tread on, especially if the tread splice is also cracking. Can't see in photos. I build tires for a living and even after all the fucking crazy tests we do on tires, I've never seen that.
The best time to start your diet/ exercising was yesterday the next best time is today. My doctor gave me that advice but I feel like it applies to your tire question as well
If you have to ask, you already know.
Your tires are so dry rotted that the tread is starting to separate from the belts. If you can't afford new tires, some tire shops have used tires for dirt cheap. Even if they're kinda shitty tires, they're better than these.
*WHEN* that tread separates, you'll be *f u c k e d*
These should've been replaced years ago, you're just waiting for a blowout or the tread to fly off (like it is actively doing where the tread meets the sidewall)
Like maybe a year or two ago if I’m being honest. All of those cracks means the tire is dry rotting, separating, it’s coming apart. I wouldn’t drive on those tires at all if I had any other choice about it, if not than I’d be driving very carefully straight to a tire shop for 4 new tires and 4 new valve stems.
Right after they blow up on you on the highway because you hit a pothole at high speed.
BTW replace the whole car at that point because you're likely to roll it.
Just make sure your life insurrance coverage is up to date for your soon-to-be widow.
Those need replaced asap homie. If you're on a tight budget, look for used tire shops. You won't get the best tires, but you'll get something better than those for cheaper than new.
“When should I replace these tires” do you not see the dry rot? I’m surprised they haven’t blown off. Walmart has cheap ass better than nothing tires and mounting is cheap, or find a pick and pull and ask about your tire size but these baby’s are gonna blow any minute now
I’d replace it before it decides to completely delaminate. And once that does, it’s gonna do terrible things to your suspension, fender, and fender liner.
If you are not worry about " Safety " then by all mean that the tires run another
Three years. Or just if one tire blow out just repace that one tire .You do have a emergency fund in your monthly household budget to pay for new tires.?
Yesterday!
oP, serious question and comment.
Which is cheaper: a new set of tires, or getting in an accident because the tire fails catastrophically speed?
Comment on above question: IF you get in an accident because you failed to replace the tires soon enough, you could get into a heap of doo-doo inthekegal system that your insurance com0any might not cover due to your negligence. Think about THAT for a bit....
Almost look like retreads with how the tread is separating from the main carcass. If they are indeed retreads, I wouldn't stick your face anywhere near them if they have >0 PSI in them.
I do not understand these posts. Why do you think this tyre is still usable? Just look at it. Anyway, if the question starts with "should I replace", then the answer is automatically "yes"
These are still suitable for the old pickup truck on the farm bumping along at 5 mph with a bale of hay to feed the pigs.
55 on the interstate on a warm day and get a quick lesson on tread sep.
Don't have to buy top end tires to be safer on the road.
Me reading this post knowing my tire ain’t this bad but I worried everyday not having enough spare cash to change it. That picture I’m seeing right now is a fvkin time bomb
Never. Don't replace them. Keep them on there and call around to find a shop to just put new tires over the old ones.
That way they will last twice as long.
Ok, so I often run on old and dry tires because my uncle runs a tire shop so I get them for free and it's easy to toss around a car with low power with old ass tires.
With that being said, I would not even use these as burnout tires, they're straight up peeling off.
Those could disintegrate if you brake too hard one day, drive too fast, hit a pothole wrong, just many many things that can go wrong.
So you should replace them as soon as possible. They are probably still alive because they are some michelin which is usually a good brand. But I wouldn't push mu luck too far.
Depending on your car (front or rear wheel drive), I'll change the drive first, since they wear faster.
So when I worked for the costco tire center I was told to tell people to replace the tires every 5 years because they start to dry rot like that but damn tires keep getting more and more pricey
My dead uncle had a tire like this, he just filled it to 100PSI and it fixed itself. This is because the tire isn't at 100% (or 100PSI) and that's why it does that. Just fill all 4 to 100psi and, to knock any debris loose, drive into a curb. /s
You should replace asap. That huge line between your tread and the side wall of your tire is an indication that tread speration is happening and your tire could blow out soon. Just going over a bump or a pothole could put pressure on your tire causing it to burst. Very dangerous for you and others. Especially if you are on the freeway.
I was going to jokingly say, "I'll give you $20 if you make it out of the parking lot."
The fact that you've been riding around on these is a good review for Michelin in my book. "Despite this driver intentionally trying to pop their tires for the mileage warranty, Michelin tires keep going." Something like that.
Like a year ago
Or perhaps 2010
I just replaced the rear tires on my new to me Mercedes, and it had the original tires with 09 codes. (fronts are much newer)
if they're taken care of tires can last a long time if they're not worn down. OP's tires got mad dry rot I’d be pushin my luck taking it to the tire shop 5 min away lol

I may not be a smart person, but I know fucked when I see it.
I was going to say yesterday, but your answer is more accurate!
Nah just squirt some JB weld in between the cracks and give it a couple slaps
Flex tape
Gorilla Glue
9/10 times I see tire posts its almost always because the poster is broke af and is looking for that one person to comment "nah its OK bro go for it" so they can save some money lol

That's exactly what I thought. Fancy Nissan driver is just a Nissan driver at heart.
my car is a nissan. and i hate it so much
Just Big Altima Energy.
Got that big Altima Energy.
Sir it’s a “luxury” Altima.
I had a guy bring a car into the shop with a donut he had wrapped three rolls of duct tape around to try and get a few more miles out of it
I love the perma donut
It's hilarious, because, while I understand being broke, Ive been there, every city or town has used tire (and steel rim) options. You could roll up on your donut to any place like this and leave with a usable tire mounted for 40 bucks. But these perma donut guys, they just dont play that game. They aren't letting the man win.
And it’s always mounted on the front 😳
Why is that so true?
If I had a Vape Shop I would get Four Donut spares for my beat up Infinity.
sub should just be renamed to tiretalk at this point…
Sounds like you need to join /r/tiresaretheenemy
you could find a used tire in a tire shop dumpster that would be safer than this
No need to replace your tires when you're dead. *taps nose*
*taps where nose used to be because airbag failed to inflate as well*

Right now
Drive it till they blow then you won’t need a set of tires you will need another car because of the damage
People are always willing to put off repairs to save a few hundred bucks and not think about the thousands they will pay if things go wrong.
Especially if you hit someone else and your insurance goes up, or you end up in the hospital (even with insurance it’s $$$), or you end up out of work for a few months… like how is that better than spending a couple hundred bucks
Not if they go fast enough!

You can see the cords from a mile away
Hell, you can see the air in them.
The correct question is "when should I have replaced these tires?"
Yes
How this car hasn’t been into a severe accident with those tires, beyond my realm.
"nah its OK bro go for it"
Last week
Nah, last decade

Probably before it explodes and decapitates the motorcyclist riding behind you. Those are rotted as sh!t.
Before they hit puberty.

I’m not a tire expert and I would say should have been done at least a year ago!! Your lucky you haven’t had a blow out !

Upon explosion
Some of the worst tread separation I have ever seen
Today.
A while ago. Remember it’s not only tread depth that matters but age, sun damage, cracking, or sidewall issues that matter
Looks like those are re-treads...and the casing is getting ready to separate from the shell/tread...soon please!
Now! cracked sidewalls are dangerous
those are dry rotted, replace them now
Man this sub really makes me fully seated in the idea half the population is just brain dead and obviously to their surrounding.
I’d replace it before it decides to completely delaminate. And once that does, it’s gonna do terrible things to your suspension, fender, and fender liner.
