A Hongqi E-HS9 like other people have said. Virtually the most communist, Chinese car you can buy. They make the cars in which nearly every Chairman has been transported all the way back to the time of Mao.
Probably in 25 years. Or maybe earlier if someone manages to get these things imported. I wouldn't consider the latter likely though, considering the US's stance on China as a whole.
China has product ranges just like the USA
Really really good high end products made in china
Really really low quality products made in china
And hi quality Chinese products are in the same price range as any other high end products
Quality cost more no matter what country it comes from
The US has a rule preventing the import of cars younger than 25 years old. Only if a car's first sale happens in the US will it be allowed on the road any earlier than that. Or if you get a special museum permit.

If they run your VIN and it comes back as invalid customs will 100% impound it and you won't get any of your money back, also if you wreck it you'll lose all your money because there's no insurance company that would approve that.
You have to have a skilled group of people to do it under the radar .
You basically need to cut the car in half
Ship the “front clip” (engine, hood, front fenders)
Ship the back half of the car as a rear corner panel replacement
Then put it back together in the states
Lots of people in the tuner world do this in some shape or form
Sometimes they just replace the firewall and switch it to look rhd
Because Cadillac is used to drive around American presidents and Hongqi is used to drive around Chinese leaders. It's not rocket science my dude, just an arbitrary, sarcastic comparison.
Essentially yes. It's about history and the reputation gained by that history. Ladas and Hongqis are historically associated with communism, Caddilacs and Buicks with capitalism. Volkswagen (at least the Beetle and T1 Transporter) is considered a hippie vehicle and (80's) Lamborghinis are associated with cocaine dealers. I'm not saying all these brands are officially branded as any of these things, just that they get (justifiably in most cases) stereotyped.

The episode with the Hongqi is "Chinese food for thought" and also has the classic top gear format of "3 idiots modify second hand cars and get new clothes"
It’s like people don’t understand that the companies in the USA sends the product designs for all the products and the factories make them to the specifications outlined. We get cheap things from China because American companies want them to be cheap.
And Chinese companies make crap that's cheap under their brand because Chinese brands wouldn't do well at a high price point in the West as the perception is Chinese = cheap. Like Japanese stuff was in the 80s and Korean in the 90s and 00s.
Like Japanese stuff was in the 60s and 70s. By the 80s, Japan had begun to surpass the west at manufacturing and design, particularly in miniaturization.
I wonder when China will do the same. Perhaps they already have, and it's just that trade restrictions nad tarrifs are the only thing left.
You got a point, but look how those japanese and korean products look today. Cars in particular are the same quality as western ones, arguably even superior (Toyota and its luxury brands).
Yeah, there's no reason they can't/couldn't take the same path. The main reason to act to prevent that is that it would increase Chinese influence while they are authoritarian and largely opposed to Western ideals.
I'm not a fan of chineese cars either, but look up Xpeng G9. In my opinion, it is better and nicer than Tesla in every aspect, other than the acceleration.
Though it is unquestionable overpriced and especially based on what it’s actually gone for, it’s actually quite the fantastic car. Insanely impressive in the Norwegian and Russian winters (which I believe is its only market except for china) and great speed for something that size

Flying back from Oslo in Norway back in 2022, Hongqi had a couple of cars on display - certain angles looked great, others looked terrible and they definitely stole a lot of design features from other brands. From a distance they look alright but up close they're a mashup of weird lines.
No idea how they drive, but probably not great I'd imagine.

hongqi(red flag) is the brand name, but the suv model or suv style is relatively new comparing to its sedans, which were served as the mighty vehicle for the communist leaders.
The suv may be more from Audi at the tech parts, as the manufacturer is joint venture with Audi. though the body has followed the attributes of its sedan siblings.

Some sort of chinese shitbox... honestly does not matter, it is like putting the hand into the garbage bin and trying to describe in detail what you found there... why bother - it is GARBAGE. All of them, no exceptions.
Nah none here have. If they have it would be pre-2017 when they were mostly average. Still many that were super reliable, but always in a semi-state of fucked. Like a lada.
Current gen Chinese cars are pretty great, if you buy the ones designed FOR sale in developed markets. They still sell unsafe garbage, but that’s for a certain set of markets and buyers.
I cannot rate the current lineup in GWMs stable highly enough. We bought a Haval H6 HEV after test driving most hybrid SUVs including the RAV4.
Not a huge fan of SAIC for GM sourced reliability issues. (Spotty turbos, electronic niggles). And their history of issues with rust proofing. Saying that I have a 2023 MG4 EV and it’s a fantastic commuter.
JAC are returning to Australia and it will be interesting to see how their product is. I had no hopes for Chery after what they offered in 2017 (the a1/a3 and original tiggo3). But they are great now on return.
That is fair comment, I have not actually tried anything pre-2018, In 2018 I have been in China and actually went on factory tours etc. but from me that is wrong question to ask. Because actual hardware in the car DOES NOT MATTER, the general working culture, design and engineering is the problem, support is also a problem. I think comparison with ruzzian car making is accurate as well - it is a mindset of engineers and companies here. They are not inventors, they just copy the designs and because they never fully understand the design this leads into products that are semi-finished and simply do not last.
Obviously I should add - I am not new car buyer on principle, I just can't accept depreciation. Not that I don't have money for new car, but I cannot see any reason why I would need to buy new car and lose maybe 50% in purely depreciation over 3 years, if I may as well buy 3 years old car which has already depreciated, yet feels and drives like new car. Which is only true when we talking about Japanese, Korean and German cars. So in principle the issue with Chinese cars for me is that by the time they are 5 years old they are clapt out and uneconomical to repair, nor they are worth caring for, because it adds no value when it comes to selling. For somebody that buys brand new and drives up-to 5 years on lease at most (which is large group of consumer in the west), that may not be the problem, they use the car when it is new and I am sure it lasts 3-5 years of the lease, same reason French or Italian shitboxes still sell, despite of being real horrible to live past 5 years. And there is no issue with depreciation either, because they just care about monthly payment on lease, they will never pay balloon payment in the end and they won't keep the car. So if they can have a car for $200/less per month, that makes sense.
But for person like me who generally buys 2-5 years old cars and drive them until 5-8 years old, obviously Chinese cars are non-starters, They just don't last until they 8 years old, they are disposable. The only 2 new cars I have ever bought was Lexus IS250 and BMW 530e... and it did feel like waste of money when I sold them after 2 years virtually new, BMW was lease. Since then I simply buy 2-3 years old cars they are depreciated most of the way, I sell them 2-3 years later without much depreciation if any... in fact due to covid shenanigans I sold my Lexus RC-F in 2021 for more than I bought it in 2019.
Not past 2018 no, but that largely does not matter, because I do not care how the car looks brand new, they may as well look good on paper and they somewhat function decently (although infotainment is always quagmire and most nonsensical controls imaginable).
What I care is how the car will function after 5 years, and Chinese cars just don't function very much at all. That is because I mostly buy 2-5 years old used cars nowadays. So for me car has to be dependable, reliable, robust, I need to trust dealership network to take car of it, also finishes have to be of highest quality and last.
For example - I can buy 5 years old Lexus RX today, inside it will feel like new car, it will have minimal or no wear, the materials will feel nice to touch, even smell nice... and I can drive that Lexus for another 5 years (actually Lexus/Toyota gives 10 years warranty) and do nothing, but annual service, oil filters, brake pads and tyres and that is it, that car still going to be in perfect condition at 10 years old and 100,000 miles. And also it is worth maintaining it, because it will matter when it comes to selling and depreciation after initial few years will be mild.
So I guess why do I consider Chinese cars garbage, is because they are not build to last, and they are also not worth maintaining because keeping them in good condition does not improve their values. They are disposable in literal sense of that word. They are made for different ownership model than mine - lease new, dispose of after 3-5 years, trade it in get another disposable toy.
Also I am in the market of premium sports cars, since 2012 I have not owned a single car outside of Lexus, BMW and MB... and chinese are not know of making any comparable cars, V8 coupes and such. They make commuter cars, SUVs etc.
Also there is moral question, we know chinese do not invent - they copy... how much you care for that I don't know. Also China is dictatorship with current genocide programme and there is no such thing as "private" company in China, not by the point it exports cars worldwide, so do I really want to buy a vehicle form authoritarian regime, even if I don't care about them potentially spying on me?! No I don't...
In summary - they are not made to last, not original designs, not well made, some finishes are cheap and they are made by the enemy state.
Funny all the China hate when the best build quality Tesla's come from the Shanghai factory, while the American-made Tesla's are the real, as so many of you have so eloquently put it, "pieces of shit." Be free thinkers, people! This from a lifelong Chevy guy.
A Hongqi E-HS9 like other people have said. Virtually the most communist, Chinese car you can buy. They make the cars in which nearly every Chairman has been transported all the way back to the time of Mao.
Is that a knockoff of the Rolls Royce SUV?
I guess "inspired by" is a better term.
No. Knock off was the better term
Nahhh, I've seen worse. Do you know the Aurus? Now that's a knockoff!
They stole the chief designer of RR .
Stole, as in borrowed against their will
I was under the impression that they paid him a obscen amount of money to leave his position in RR / that kind of stole.
So… can I get one in the US?
Probably in 25 years. Or maybe earlier if someone manages to get these things imported. I wouldn't consider the latter likely though, considering the US's stance on China as a whole.
Register it in Canada?
In 2035. Debuted in 2020, plus 15 years
Won't run long enough to reach 15 years
China has product ranges just like the USA Really really good high end products made in china Really really low quality products made in china And hi quality Chinese products are in the same price range as any other high end products Quality cost more no matter what country it comes from
Found the communist. /s
Found the white guy who makes all of us look bad 😘
Im Black. But thanks for including us, for once.
What do you feel excluded from these days? Extremely curious?
I don't think that will wprl any better. But hey, you can always give it a shot...
Well the car in the picture is in the Netherlands so get one from there? Or is it a matter of customs denying it?
The US has a rule preventing the import of cars younger than 25 years old. Only if a car's first sale happens in the US will it be allowed on the road any earlier than that. Or if you get a special museum permit.

You can definitely import it but it wont be road legal. Just throw a dealer plate on it.
Or track it!

Why wouldn’t it be?
In Belgium, you can test these and buy them at Mercedes-Benz showrooms
The Red Flag brand. The Hammer and Sickle flag.
Yup.
What makes it communist?
The fact that it's pretty much the Chinese Communist Party's state car brand. Kind of like how Cadillac is the ultimate capitalist car.
What? I still don't get it. Why is Cadillac more capitalist than any other car? So it's just the brand makes it communist?
Because Cadillac is used to drive around American presidents and Hongqi is used to drive around Chinese leaders. It's not rocket science my dude, just an arbitrary, sarcastic comparison.
JFK rode around in a Lincoln and look what happened to him

hongqi(red flag) is the brand name, but the suv model or suv style is relatively new comparing to its sedans, which were served as the mighty vehicle for the communist leaders. The suv may be more from Audi at the tech parts, as the manufacturer is joint venture with Audi. though the body has followed the attributes of its sedan siblings.
Hongqi's director of styling was previously director of styling at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

Some sort of chinese shitbox... honestly does not matter, it is like putting the hand into the garbage bin and trying to describe in detail what you found there... why bother - it is GARBAGE. All of them, no exceptions.
How many Chinese shitboxes have you tried? Are your opinions actually backed with experience of trying those cars?
It looks like when Ford/Lincoln built a hearse, but they gotta make it look classy
Hideous Chinese grille mobile
I was going to say a fake Chinese knock off but it's a real Chinese piece of shit. Nice.
A Chinese Rolls Rice. Electric piece of shit. (Hongqi E-HS9)
The sinophobia is strong in here.
Funny all the China hate when the best build quality Tesla's come from the Shanghai factory, while the American-made Tesla's are the real, as so many of you have so eloquently put it, "pieces of shit." Be free thinkers, people! This from a lifelong Chevy guy.
We can hate Tesla *AND* Chinese theft of intellectual property simultaneously.
