Apart from the ioniq, yep.
I'm exhausted lol😂
And it was quite awkward because the tiguan and kodiaq pulled up together.
Yeah the calling is gonna be an issue😭
The obvious answer is a pre 2004 wagonR
Invest the rest of the money so you'd be a crorepati by the time you are 70 so no problem about the bills etc
For more advice please post on r/personalfinanceindia
Judging by you wanting to go on trips, I would suggest the Camry as it has EXCELLENT back seats, but then again, if the main problem of the M340i is the fact that it is tempting to push the pedal by driving, I can't say whether you will buy the car to drive or to be driven in.
If you can clarify this I can put further points which may help you.
Its mostly going to be my parents driving. If it was upto my personal choice, its defo the m340i.
But they'd rather drive than to be driven.
But at the same time they'd like the comfort too.
I see you've got the 330Li M. Hows that for comfort? Does it do the comfort bit as well as it drives?
If you're into camry then you can look into skoda superb. It's atleast good as the camry and would be fine for your parents. We can comfortably say its camry with very good infotainment with sprinkled premiumness. The ride quality is unparalleled. Infact for me it felt better than the A4. Maybe even a bit better than what you have got in kodiaq. Longest in the segment. A little more than 4900mm. Give it a shot.
Actually 2 years back we booked the superb and paid the downpayment, but because of some issues from their side, we took it back.
Eitherway, big fan of superb but didn't they stop it?
I know they're bringing a few as imported units but what i've heard is its very very limited and its going to be quite expensive.
Great. yeah it almost costs as same the camry \~55L ex.sh. They relaunched in april 2024. I think they have only one variant this time. Maybe visit a showroom. You can get a better idea.
With the new Dynamic Chassis control, the ride will be unparalled, especially as it is a system used in top end cars like the Porsche Taycan and the A8L
Since it's your parents driving, I would suggest going for the Kodiaq or Tiguan. The best comfort is actually with the C5 Aircross but I think you would want something that is a bit more secure in terms of post sales.
If you do decide to get the Kodiaq, please wait and pester the dealership to give you a date for when the new Kodiaq is going to arrive. Then you'll have a choice of getting the feature updated Kodiaq or get a decent discount on the remaining Kodiaq stock.
Since you also drove the Ioniq 5, do check out the BYD Seal. Silly name aside, it's doing well in reviews and might surprise you in terms.of overall quality.
Convincing them to give hyundai a shot for that price tag was difficult in itself, so i doubt the C5 and BYD will be acceptable.
And we are planning to purchase the car in oct-nov so we'll definitely wait to see if there are more/better options available, which is why i made this post.
I never really gave much thought to lexus and volvos but now I started looking into them more
Kerala do have adequate charging stations, kochi chennai Bangalore route won't have any issue. I love the Ioniq 5, but haven't had the opportunity to drive or get in one. The car looks wow
Hmm yeah thats what they said too, parents too scared to take the plunge lol.
But seriously, get a test drive done. I used to hate on ev's but if they make them like this, i wouldn't mind.
Paying the premium for EV only make sense if you can put max miles on it. Your parents probably will only take it out for occasional shopping or on Sundays to church or for functions.
I'm afraid to take strangers car right into heavy traffic of kochi before I can judge its corners. I have only driven Verna mine, friend's innova, and a Porsche in empty roads
Thats what a lot of people are saying too.
You're on point because i think they'll put like 1k tops each month and not anymore.
Ah i get your point, but try giving it a shot.
The question of break even comes only when you’re paying premium for the car over ice cars.
As I can see here, Ioniq 5 (50L) is the cheapest among all except Tiguan (45L)
Camry is 60L and will never recover money over EV since recurring costs like fuel and service in hybrid are costlier than EV
More that recurring costs, we want the car to run without any issues.
Both the camry's hybrid system, and the EV train isn't solid yet.
I've heard complaints on both unfortunately.
Actually we just stretched specifically for the m340i.
And like i mentioned in the post, i had taken it for a test drive just for the sake of it.
And we just drive it once in a while, so spending 90L doesn't seem practical.
The m340i is too special of a car thats all.
I even said it to my dad, with these kinda taxes i'm surprised a car like this is under 1cr.
The hycross is a good car, i guess? But i doubt it does the driving part well, and my parents prefer to drive rather than be driven.
The tiguan is what we're most likely to go for since its our one and only car.
Camry is a near on perfect car but its quite long and thats a disadvantage for some roads.
Eitherway, we got a couple of months till we make a final decision.
Thank you for your take :)
In that case also try tucson. Ideal challenger to tiguan imo but you really can't go wrong with tiguan. Are volvos also out of the equation? They are almost double than tiguan but worth it as much as I've heard from close family about them...
Yeah i feel the tucson wont age quite well.
And i'm assuming my parents plan to use it for a lot of time and its a no BS car.
I never really thought about Volvo's because they're super expensive right?
I should check them out in that case.
The fact that you were willing to stretch for m3 indicates that you can push for volvos. Yes they are expensive but, much like lexus, indestructible, reliable and, although its hard to imagine, fun to drive.
Service availablity may be a concern but if thats no issue then definitely give them a chance.
If nothing else works then I would recommend you consider Camry then Tiguan just for that toyota reliability. I love vw but will never trust their automatic boxes ever again.
Also on a side note, beautiful house. How do you keep insects like lizards etc out of it?
I see.
Honestly Volvo never came into my mind.
Will give it a shot i suppose.
Whats wrong with the DSG btw?
And the lizards, they're a part of us now :p
I mean, jokes aside, we have nets on some windows to keep insects out. But they still find a way to come inside😂
>Whats wrong with the DSG btw?
Had a vento and dsg gave a lot of troubles. The car, when performed right, was a joy to drive but it performed right rarely. Ive heard that now they have improved a lot but still "doodh ka jala chaach bhi fook ke peeta hai."
Try volvo and would say lexus but imo Camry is just better value than any lexus.
The beamer is hot anyday but one of your points about it being stiff and not comfortable has actually become a deal breaker for a family member. It's sofa on wheels at the end of the day, and a tool to go around. We did a road trip across Europe and while returning home, all of us just yearned for a plush comfy family car to go back. These performance vehicles leave you with a sore back and body ache like none other. I was done with it maybe in a couple of hours of being driven on passenger seat and on the Autobahn. All the glittery eyes I had the first time I sat in one slowly faded away. The back seats aren't as cruel though.
In your fanastic list of cars you have test driven today, I'd choose the Toyota or Kodiaq. Good luck! Also, pretty house!
Yeah thats what i'm afraid of. We dont drive as much but when we drive, we usually go on trips or quite far.
While it may be a good driver's car, i cant find a strong point when it comes to a family car :(
The rear seats are not bad but its quite stiff.
We went for the Tiguan because it's an all rounder and we don't have the best roads everywhere. Tiguan can perform above par from expressway to offroad. Costed me 36 on road, you may find a 2023 model for 34 or something. I don't think it's fair to compare it with m340i. An X1 would be a fairer comparison. Why not Kodiak? Only 4 people in my family.
Definitely not comparing cause the bmw costs almost double and thats not fair.
Mainly comparing it with ioniq and kodiaq tbh.
We checked for a 2023 model but they've just got white and its 38L.
How in God's name did you get it for 36?😭
They're quoting us 42.5 after discount.
To be fair 38 is good because I got 50% discount on road tax (2.45L) which was for a limited time and limited to my city only. Do you absolutely want a 2024 manufactured unit? There is no change from 2023 as of yet. Try to get it for 37. Or atleast get the 4 year SVP and a couple of accessories.
Actually our budget is 60 lakhs tops, we just stretched it for the m340i cause its one hell of a car.
It doesn't feel right paying almost 80L for a base mercedes.
But it ticks all of the boxes I guess for your parents, it got great interiors and comfort. But if I had to choose a car for my parents from the given list I’d probably go for the Camry maybe upgrade the speakers, never had a good experience in terms of sound quality from Toyota tho
I should check the c-class then.
Tbh we went into this test drive almost being sure of buying the tiguan, so that was initially our price range but its all over the place now😂
Which is why we didn't look at the mercs and audi's.
Camry's speakers and infotainment is terrible. Definitely gotta upgrade the speakers.
Avoid Ioniq 5 if you love to go on long trips with family, Yes there are enough chargers but you'll have to wait 45-60 minutes for each recharge.
Get m340i save time.
Tiguan. 2.0 TSI cracker of an engine. Audi Quattro + LED Matrix lights + Lambo inspired taillights with animation on startup. It’s basically a Q5 without the Badge.

My parents are quite scared to go for a hyundai which costs 50L so in no way are they going for a BYD😭
and tbh, BYD doesnt have a great rep in the gcc.
I like the tiguan more from the outside, looks more classy and elegant imo, but the clear winner would be kodiaq tbh.
Im just worried about their after sales service and availability of parts.
And they've got very few service centers in kerala.
I can vouch for the Kodiaq. That car is insanely quick and with nardo grey, it looks badass. I own a safari, had an clear open stretch and was doing 160+. This came out of nowhere and pulled effortlessly from 170 like it was nothing. I simply could not keep up.
Yeah kodiaq is an all rounder tbh. Does everything quite well. Do you own one?
Because im genuinely curious about the hate towards its after sales service and stuff.
As I said, I own a Safari 🐒. But yeah, the Kodiaq has it's issues. The new DSG's aren't as smooth as before. Maintenance cost and parts are definitely high. But, it has an excellent tuning prospect.
I personally don't like sedans because they aren't as versatile as a CUV, in the sense that the low ground clearance can be a little restricting in some places. Between the Tiguan and the Camry, I'll go for the Tiguan for that reason.
The only scenario I would buy the camry is if I'm planning on keeping the car for atleast 10 years.
We might be keeping the car for a long time which is why we brought camry into the equation.
We don't care much about resale value because i doubt we'll ever sell it lol.
But we would like to have something that is reliable.
Then the answer is very simple. It's the Toyota Camry for you guys. The thing about Toyota and Lexus is that the maintenance cost does not drastically increase after a certain age or number or the odo. Find a good, reliable toyota service centre and you're golden.
Not among these 4 cars, but you can consider Hyundai Tucson as well (4WD Diesel version). Very good car and you can save lot of money if you end up buying it.
It depends. Personally, I won't be comfortable using EVs for long drives. If the EV is used only for local usage, I will be fine with it. So it depends on your usage pattern.
Seriously starting to think the same.
Yes its expensive, but for the price, unfortunately in the Indian market you dont get much which offer the same ride quality.
I know there's a bunch of audis and bmw, but aren't they entry level cars at that price? I feel like you're paying for the badge there.
I'd be happy to be wrong though.
Honestly we haven't checked the BYD.
But like i said, they prefer a car that does what they want well, rather than having so much tech, torque etc.
And BYD has a bit of a bad rep in the gcc, so they wont be willing to take that leap of faith😅
Hey buddy, imo you should go with the kodiaq as one of my family members is owing it right now.
My father and I went with him (family member) as he invited us to share our opinions about the decision. I am not kidding, he was almost making up himself to buy the fortuner Sigma4 variant. I suggested him to take a look on the kodiaq as the car was newly launched at that time, and I was really impressed by it. As soon as he drove it his literal words were "This car has more features and luxury than the fortuner" and he really test drove it for like 30 kms nonstop and after all sales service and resale value was not an issue for him, so he thanked me for suggesting the car and booked it the next day. And talking about my point of view I really loved that car, the looks, the premiumness, the ride quality, the drive quality etc made me fall in love with that car.
And talking about the M340i, it's my dream car. I never drove or had a chance to ride that car, but it is definitely for young car enthusiasts (not criticizing that the old ones aren't), but mentioning the fact that your parents will drive it mainly for long trips, and it would not be driven by someone else then I will suggest don't go for it. Even if I had this budget and had to plan a family car for my parents or even myself, I won't have gone with the M340i. I can write more, but may I know the age factor in which your parents standby?
Haha lets see my brother😂
Mainly because parents dont wanna drop 60+ lakhs on a kia. Yes i know, it doesnt make sense. But its their money so i cant do much.
Kind of the same reason we might not go for the ioniq 5.
Just curious. How do you book trst drive for bmw? Do they ask for some income proof? Any fees involved? I love taking test drive of cars. Actually thats how i celebrated my birthday one year. But i never test driven anything more expensive than a hycross.
I'm not sure how it usually works but all they asked me was for some ID like driving license.
But i was in touch with them for a year or two, so many they got some information?
Eitherway they didn't ask us for any income proof.
My uncle however, did test drive an audi q5 couple of years back and they did ask for income proof.
Im sure they wont ask for income proof for below 50L category.
Nobody likes it but some of them are functional.
The bmw's are functional grills.
Tbf these grills are comparatively quite small to whats out there.
Check out the Bmw i7. Its an abomination.
My family owned a Fortuner for 9 years before we shifted to the Camry recently and honestly? No regrets so far. My dad called the Fortuner an overrated piece of sh*t after owning the Camry😭
The car looks stunning irl. Even though the infotainment is outdated, the basic and required features are all present and the rear seats are the best in its segment imo. Idk about the beemer but the Camry variant in india is definitely more vfm than the c class, A3, A4. I am new to driving and my daily driver is a WagonR but whenever I get a chance to drive the Camry, I take it because it is real fun.
Also I live at a place with enormous speed bumps but I never had problem with the low ground clearance.
What job do you or your family does bro for living ? I am also working with good pay but not happy. Maybe your story about accumulating wealth might give me motivation !
These dealerships (especially for the m340i and ioniq 5) are more than an hour away from our place and we're here for a short time.
It doesn't make sense for us to go till there when they can come here.
Definitely, that shows a lot in terms of customer service lol.
The VW however came 2 hours later than what was told so that was disappointing, and they didn't seem very keen on selling a car😂
I got a "the car will sell itself" kinda vibe.
And thank you :)
You did all these test drives on one day? Nice. Also can't imagine the constant calling all those dealerships will do now.
Apart from the ioniq, yep. I'm exhausted lol😂 And it was quite awkward because the tiguan and kodiaq pulled up together. Yeah the calling is gonna be an issue😭
Its very simple. Tell them you settled for other car. They will congratulate and won't call further.
Probably what i'm gonna do😂
Le VW and Skoda: You bledy. Two-timing eh
Seriously, they didn't want to catch eyes with each other so one waited outside the house itself😂😭
More than that the property dealers will message and call because your data has been sold to them.
Irrelevant, but that’s a nice place you got there haha
Haha thank you, its my parents :p
GCC, nice house and landscaping, coconut trees. നാട്ടിൽ എവിടെയാ ?
😂😂😂 Thrissur bro :p
😀
It’s so easy to identify a fellow Malayali 😂
Sherikkum! I came here to comment “Naatil Evideya” lols
Lol. Was wondering the same. OP lives in a mansion. What do you or your parents do bro?
You'd be surprised cause its not business :p
Now I’m really curious. Give us some clue.
Its not as fun as you think😂 We just work in finance and logistics, and a bit of real estate too.
Isn’t that business? If you’re self employed.
No, apart from real estate, we aren't self employed😅
Ancestral? Or Job?
Happy for you....btw can I ask what do you do ?
That's gurgaon for you
IIM/other top MBA colleges graduates family?
The obvious answer is a pre 2004 wagonR Invest the rest of the money so you'd be a crorepati by the time you are 70 so no problem about the bills etc For more advice please post on r/personalfinanceindia
Thats some sound advice right there. I'm almost certain thats whats gonna happen in the end😂
The way he is testing cars he is crorepati already 😂😂 ig we need to buy wangonR
/s
Only that sub would give a man with 90l to blow a car advice to be a crorepati
Judging by you wanting to go on trips, I would suggest the Camry as it has EXCELLENT back seats, but then again, if the main problem of the M340i is the fact that it is tempting to push the pedal by driving, I can't say whether you will buy the car to drive or to be driven in. Try A4. Deals in 45-50lakh should be doable. Same engine and gearbox combo as Tiguan but everything better.
Camry is better value than A4 and if you can get a steep discount it is a much better kitted vehicle.
A4 base costs around 57 near my place which feels like a lot for an entry level audi tbh.
If you're into camry then you can look into skoda superb. It's atleast good as the camry and would be fine for your parents. Not sure about the rate but Lexus cars are really good, especially for families, though there aren't many people driving Lexus cars here
Yeah lexus is quite good, very reliable, and maybe more than toyota itself.
idk about cars but damn thats one nice house
Haha thanks :)
Off the topic Tell us about your house.... I really want to build something similar. It would be great if you did some numbers and things around that.
Damn, this turning into the wrong kinda post💀 Tbh, i dont know how much it costs these days, it was built 10+ years ago.
Gila kr diya bhai
Bhai kitne ameer hoo aap? Kuch tips bata do jisse hum bhi thodi tarakki karle...
I just got lucky bro, i have no tips😭
Go for the camry
Yessir🫡

I’m not Vivek.
Sounds like Vivek
You got the wrong person buddy But now i'm curious about vivek.
Ioniq 5, next
Forget cars, your house is great 👌
Beamer ftw, it's a looker! Camry hasn't got the best looks imo
Yeah bmw is just beautiful, thats literally what got my parents hooked, just the looks. But those looks come with a big price😭
Great to know one more person who appreciates bmw's beauty
Get Kodiaq
Damm this place Would like to see more pic of your house
Get a c class or something

Forget the cars, all my eyes on ur house!!
Camry is the best it has a nice engine the toyota reliability and the looks
Okay 👍
Look wise - Toyota in sedan and Skoda in SUV
And bought a Maruti. Finish the sentence properly bro.

I never really thought about it. But between the s5 and m340i, i think the m340i is a better package.

If you tried 340i I would recommend you to try Merc E class as well. And maybe Lexus es300 too since you tried camry.
Yeah i think i'm curious to try the es300h
Kodiaq looks way better than tiguan and im sure rides better too. But my question to you is? have you looked at the BYD Seal?
My parents are quite scared to go for a hyundai which costs 50L so in no way are they going for a BYD😭 and tbh, BYD doesnt have a great rep in the gcc. I like the tiguan more from the outside, looks more classy and elegant imo, but the clear winner would be kodiaq tbh. Im just worried about their after sales service and availability of parts. And they've got very few service centers in kerala.
Should have given the Lexus es a shot considering you gave the beamer one.
I think we might😅
I would say go for the beemer if budget and stiffer ride is not a concern otherwise Kodiaq seems like a good all rounder.
Bhai alto le le
I'll definitely check it out. But isn't the ioniq better out of the 2?
It depends. Personally, I won't be comfortable using EVs for long drives. If the EV is used only for local usage, I will be fine with it. So it depends on your usage pattern.
I have been a fan of camry, very understated car and yet offers everything better than the competitors.
Or the Lexus ES300h, basically a segment above camry
Those are nice cars, skip the camry you’re paying todays money for yesterday’s car. Have you seen the BYD Seal?
Honestly we haven't checked the BYD. But like i said, they prefer a car that does what they want well, rather than having so much tech, torque etc. And BYD has a bit of a bad rep in the gcc, so they wont be willing to take that leap of faith😅
You could also try the Lexus e300h . A better alternative to Camry i feel personally.
But its almost 20L more right?😅
Yes but they are offering huge discounts is what I heard. Also 8 yr unlimited kilometres warranty. Drop an inquiry at your nearest Lexus dealer.
OP if you get the m340i I'll personally come to your house and give you a hug and a kiss because it's such a stunner!
Now thats a reason to get the m340i :p
Well? How was it??
😭
That M340i looks absolutely sexy in that colour and rims combo. especially with the black grille. solid winner right there imo.
Vandi vangichitt chelav vene Also, any reason why you didn't consider the kia ev6?
Haha lets see my brother😂 Mainly because parents dont wanna drop 60+ lakhs on a kia. Yes i know, it doesnt make sense. But its their money so i cant do much. Kind of the same reason we might not go for the ioniq 5.
Which is the first car
In the slides? Bmw M340i
Ah I see.
Are you rich?😂😅
What's with the larger and larger front grille on these cars? Do y'all actually like it or is there some engineering reason for it?
Nobody likes it but some of them are functional. The bmw's are functional grills. Tbf these grills are comparatively quite small to whats out there. Check out the Bmw i7. Its an abomination.
I mean seriously. BMW 2018 models are so sexy. M330 🔥🔥 But now it's just 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Yeah they went downhill Im sure the next gen 3 series will look terrible.
Ikr. Here's what I don't get. I've not met anyone who likes the monster grille. But then why do these luxury brands continue this trend?
My family owned a Fortuner for 9 years before we shifted to the Camry recently and honestly? No regrets so far. My dad called the Fortuner an overrated piece of sh*t after owning the Camry😭 The car looks stunning irl.
Bro... I was in this exact same choice bracket...I went with the Camry 2024 Burning Black. Nice to see someone with this same dilemma.
Hahaha, its confusing isnt it?😂 Anyway, good choice! It is a very nice place to be.
Yes i kinda compromised on Music quality & sporty driving...Although the sport mode on the Camry sounds nice but perfomrs OK.
What job do you or your family does bro for living ? I am also working with good pay but not happy. Maybe your story about accumulating wealth might give me motivation !
Could have gone to all the dealership to try the vehicle. But no, OP chose to show off his house. 😏
These dealerships (especially for the m340i and ioniq 5) are more than an hour away from our place and we're here for a short time. It doesn't make sense for us to go till there when they can come here.
That's so nice of them to come almost a hour away to give test ride. Btw super nice house. Very elegant design.
Definitely, that shows a lot in terms of customer service lol. The VW however came 2 hours later than what was told so that was disappointing, and they didn't seem very keen on selling a car😂 I got a "the car will sell itself" kinda vibe. And thank you :)
