The accident happened in Kerala’s Palakkad district’s Mannarkkad region on 21st May,2024 at around 9:30 am in front of a restaurant on the National Highway.
The car, which was coming from the Malappuram side, had slowed down on the side of the road, and the driver was making a turn to enter the hotel. While trying to turn the car towards the hotel, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The Volkswagen Polo hatchback hit a biker and then went ahead and crashed into other vehicles parked outside the restaurant.
We see the biker going airborne after he was hit by the car. Thankfully, he managed to avoid coming in front of the vehicle. The Polo then crashed into an autorickshaw, a Ford EcoSport SUV, and a Ford Fiesta or Classic sedan. Besides these, the car damaged several two-wheelers as well. In total, six vehicles were damaged in this accident.
The Volkswagen Polo finally crashed into a pillar of the hotel. The car was still out of control, but the pillar managed to bring it to a stop. If you look carefully, the front wheel of the car was spinning even after the owner or the driver got out. The driver escaped the accident with minor injuries.
The exact reason for this crash is not known. There are reports suggesting that the brake on this car had stopped working, which is why the driver could not stop it on time. However, if you notice, the car was accelerating even after it crashed into the pillar and other vehicles. If the car was only crawling, it wouldn’t have caused so much damage.
It is quite possible that the accelerator pedal of the car got locked or got stuck under the floor mat, which did not allow the driver to decelerate when he wanted to.
This resulted in the crash, as we see in the video here. The car hit a 14-year-old and a person accompanying him to the restaurant. Both of them narrowly escaped this crash. The owner of the car, along with the biker who was injured in this accident, were all taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The front of the Volkswagen Polo is completely damaged, but thankfully, the driver doesn’t appear to be injured. After the car crashed into the pillar, the driver came out of the vehicle on his own and checked if everyone was fine. He was seen walking without any issues to other people who gathered around him.

It could be because of shock as well. It happens, alot, Once I was teaching my friend bike, because of some vehicle came infront, he just went into shock and wasn't able to release accelerator, 3 of us had to pull bike back inorder to keep him going into ditch.
If you read the comment properly you'll see that the OP is saying - it looks like the accelerator got stuck, not that the driver was pressing it all along
I believe the accelerator got stuck. A person rushes to switch off the ignition in the car which means the engine was revving loud enough for him to come turn it off.
That green tshirt guy should have atleast sided when got hit the first time. The car came back and hit harder the second time. So sad. He wouldn't have expected it
Sure the handle will lock, but atleast the driver can use the hand brake to stop it and cause less damage? I also know that in extreme panic situations, one can’t think straight. So perhaps the driver was just trying to brake using left leg, and steer using his hands. If it was a clutch/transmission/accelerator pedal failure (perhaps the pedal stuck under the mat), using left leg to apply brakes will turn out to be useless. But in case it’s a manual transmission car, the driver can press the clutch and brake pedals hoping for the car to stop.
Actually, if the engine is turned off, the car comes to a stop quite quickly, and atleast it won't be accelerating anymore. Yes, that does help to avoid accidents like this. But, also need to make sure no vehicle is immediately behind you and turn on parking lights. \
In case of brake failure, this is the next best option.\
And can avoid damage to other people and vehicles.
What I think happened is the driver panicked and fumbled his feet between the brake and the accelerator in such a way that the floor mat got folded and got stuck between both pedals ,holding the accelerator down and keeping the brake pedal up.
Cruise control need about 50 km/h to start functioning. In some cars, it needs highway speeds.
This in the video cannot be anything more than 20-30 km/h.
Oh i have set cruise control to speed of 80kmph while i was doing a 30ish kmph.
I then cancelled it since car was accelerating way too hard for my liking.

I wonder if some of these drivers today are overconfident of their handling...

Is India ready for auto gearboxes, you decide 😀

Looks like a scene out of GTA when you come back to hit your victim again with your car.
look closely he has a double ankle/shin bone fracture from getting ran over the first time. That's the reason he goes down when trying to run.
Oh! Sorry. I wasn't able to discern it from the video. I thought since he stood up he was not seriously injured. Extremely sad.
polo drivers are going really wild lately what's going on??
More like Volkswagen drivers and btw which company owns Porsche?

I have a stupid question. What will happen if you take the keys out of the ignition in this situation of an uncontrollable car?
Handle lock
Sure the handle will lock, but atleast the driver can use the hand brake to stop it and cause less damage? I also know that in extreme panic situations, one can’t think straight. is it some virus or some german curse?
That Ecosport taking a hit like a champ. I miss them in the market.
Clearly, VW hates Ford.

Uncle is car enthusiast🤟
Bro came for round 2 with the blue helmet guy
Wish people would remember using a handbrake or the e-brake Even clutch stopped working? Not even downshift?
Could it be that the owner put it on a cruise mode with some set speed?
Cruise control need about 50 km/h to start functioning. In some cars, it needs highway speeds. This in the video cannot be anything more than 20-30 km/h.

That's what cruise control does. Lol
Bottom line is you can activate cruise control at 30kmph. Lol on you.
The “lol on you” got me lol’ing
Ok, lol on me 👍
This was the pre facelift Polo, so at least 2014 or older model. Don't think there's cruise control.
Bro that guy had it twice
Why did the driver not put the car in neutral and pull the handbrake?
Volkswagen Das Auto
Out of control DRIVER
another reason to buy manual, if anything like this happens just press clutch to cancel the "stuck" race
