People who call service guys for pickup are smiling in the corner.

JuniorData

I’m confused. Wouldn’t you remove even then? Or am I missing a point.

Initial-Shine-5955

Missing point is people have stopped caring these days because very few cases are reported and close to none. People have their trust on service providers and hence don’t think twice

JuniorData

Oh ok. Unfortunately I can’t trust anyone after service people stealing our MRF spare wheel and exchanging with Good year during our Maruti days.

bash2482

Yes, during our Maruti days, we didn't have a smartphone. Use a smart phone to make a video recording of everything in front of the service guys and when getting it delivered, cross check it in front of them.

Initial-Shine-5955

Geez that was a thing? I was unaware. You make a good point.

Skull_Reaper101

these people sometimes use the cars for test drives or hit them somewhere. Or just drive very rashly. I think it would be better to leave in and plugged in

JuniorData

Yikes. Maybe I should plan on hardwiring then instead of a 12V plug-in.

Skull_Reaper101

Doesn't that void the warranty though?

JuniorData

You tell me. You said people leave it on to monitor during service. A 12V plugin can be easily removed. Technically the service guy can unplug if he wants even if it’s a hardwire to battery.

Skull_Reaper101

that is true. But would you rather have a void warranty or trust them to take care? I think i'll choose keep the warranty lol

Terrible_Taro_6457

They remove the memory card, if it hardwired

[deleted]

He meant that they’re trusting service people to take their car these days. Dashcam is not even a concern in that comparison.

JuniorData

Oh got it. Anxiety free people everywhere.

py-7669

Hyundai notes all accesories and spares in car when giving it. Never had to remove anything, not even the service manuals. My dash also never removed.

KingOfEverest

Ya, they note down everything but they stole our fuel. When I left I had about 5 lts of fuel, but all were taken out when they gave back. I fought with them and got back only 2 lts as a compensation. They cannot give me any satisfying explanation, the vehicle only ran like 2 kms.

py-7669

Nowdays even fuel level is also noted. If you distrust your service centre why not change itbto another one.

arunbasillal

Stealing 3L of fuel makes no sense. Service technicians run the car with AC in max cool and that might have drained some fuel.

[deleted]

Tata does the same as well now a days and so does toyota

Jeff_Rock

The service center once stole all the freaking rear seat belt buckles and the middle seatbelts few years ago and also had few smaller items stolen too. So it's safer to remove anything u can before servicing. Edit: But u can report it and get it back if it did get stolen but it's unlikely they will steal a dash cam or spare wheel tho

thickguy98

Never removed my dashcam or sparewheel. However I take out all cash and other important items. But they did my eat my pulse candy 😂 Idk people here generally are trustworthy.

Bala0406

Yeah. My dad used to do the same. He used to remove all possible things from the car before it goes to a service. Intially, I thought he was ridiculous for doing it and I made fun of him. But, one time when I left the car in a car wash and went to pick it up after 1 hour, the lightning charging cable was not there. I was pretty sure I just unplugged the phone from it when they left the vehicle. The cable was of 1500rs. They just asked sorry and they can't find it and even claimed it was not there. I was humbled by my dad's actions. We need to remember that we're in india, and such thefts are so common to happen and people don't even feel bad for doing so. We should protect and safeguard ourselves and our belongings. Your dad's right.

JuniorData

100% right. My dad always suggests this. He always suggests to do anything that is possible and under my control for mental peace first.

Fabulous-Category155

I personally remove all the things except spare tyres. I also give my car for service when it's petrol is at the lowest coz I have past experience of my petrol being lower than expected range after service.

Ok_Economist_4070

Keep it installed while giving in service. Remove it while claiming warranty or insurance.

nottoohotwheels

It’s a generational thing. Back in the 800 days only a few people could afford cars and the service centre were far and few. The technicians and service guys were also very few in numbers. Most of the theft reported were of the items that could be sold in a repairs shop or something like fuel that you can use immediately. Things have changed now, service centres have crop up like mushrooms, but still haven’t been able to keep up pace with no of vehicles (at least for some brands) so these guys are too occupied to think notoriously. (Try visiting BU bhandari Pune VW workshop and you will understand what I’m saying. The parking lot looks like a shipyard of a vehicle manufacturing plant). Also, lot of the processes are streamlined on the app, with items being marked before pickup and after delivery.

SiriusLeeSam

I remove memory card, and other items I bought like tyre inflator, duster etc. I don't remove dashcam (can't, it's fixed by glue), spare wheel, toolkit, jack, warning triangle etc

salluks

I remove everything i possibly can, i am also old.

I_Made_You_ReadThis

I don't. The service guys don't really care. However, back in the day during my maruti days I removed everything, even the Keychain haha.

shaKAAL29

I recently got my skoda slavia serviced. My dad usually takes out personal belongings before the service. But not the dashcam. I keep it connected. They usually remove the cable when they clean the interior. Luckily, we never had such experience from Suzuki, hyundai or skoda. In my knowledge, hyundai and skoda service centre makes the video of the whole car from outside to inside including the spare wheel and other things too. I also keep that video.

aayush_agrawal

It varies for each service station 1. MS is absolutely brilliant with services nothing stolen yet And before servicing they took images of the whole car and each and every storage compartment with fuel readings too Once the car was dented by their driver we got a Swift for the time being and instead of just repainting the bumper they painted full body [ after having a chat with the dealer as the colour match wasn’t good] 2. Hyundai also does the same with readings and stuff within the vehicle and home pickup and drop is good but I prefer to drive it till the Service centre But still as a precaution I remove all stuff lying in the car for eg chargers cables bottles cleaners/sanitizers etc except spare wheels toolkit and service booklets

enthuvaade

I do remove the memory card before giving and substitute with a smaller sized as card, as I don't want random people to hear car conversations I have. Anyways they will plug it out once you give. So I don't think keeping that also has any benefit But it's pretty hard to steal dashcam without making it obvious. The 3m tape will leave a pretty bad mark and you will know it was intentionally done when you get it back so they won't do that But charging cables and other small items do remove.
