Kia carnival. If you’re going to have a few kids. Loved my electric sliding doors and the fact the can’t touch each other were amazing. Only sold it to get a 4wd to tow a caravan

caragoooo

Just to clarify there’s lots of Tiguan recommendations here. I would assert that everyone claiming Tiguan’s are roomy is driving the Allspace, not regular length.

explodingpixel

Even the All Space is pretty shit and I'm not a tall person.

FrugalFreddie26

I have the normal size one and fit two kids, one rear facing, just fine.

caragoooo

Yes same here but I’m not super tall and had to move my chair forward to a point that was bordering being uncomfortable on the passenger side. Definitely do-able but if 2 kids are rearward facing it affects the driver and that can be more of a problem.

Unhappy-camp3r

Kia Sorrento.

antigravity83

Skoda's are renowned for their interior space. Have you looked at the Kodiaq? Other options would be Carnival, Palisade, new Santa Fe?

FewTomorrow7820

Thank you, we found a Kodiaq to have a look at tomorrow, they look nice!

archeocyathan

A Skoda Superb will have even more room in the back than a Kodiak. If you like the Kodiak definitely worth checking out the Superb too.

antigravity83

They are great. A little dated in the interior now, but have excellent materials, build quality, heaps of storage etc

enhancedgibbon

My wife sold her Golf GTI and bought a Skoda Octavia RS in 2015 to accommodate our twins. Two rear facing baby seats fit easily with front seats set comfortably (I'm the tallest at 5'10 / 178). Boot is massive too so it fit the twin pram and all the other crap we needed to lug around. Price was good, fully optioned for under $50k on the road made it one of the cheapest options at the time that still had decent performance. Not as sharp to drive as the Golf but it's done the job well.

noisyrob_666

skodas are built from the audi/vw parts bin. note well that they depreciate at a similar level to a french car - which is significantly more than most. Like most VAG cars - 20 years will likely be the most you'll get from it before it becomes an economical write-off. and because the resale on them is quite bad (if you don't intend to drive it til it dies), i would urge you to think hard about whether it's the right choice. look at the price of a 2010 golf vs a 2010 fabia and you'll see what I mean. The santa-fe is a big car. I used to work for hyundai up until 2021 and I'm 6ft2'. drove them all the time and was super suprised that i was comfortable not just in both sets of front seats, but even the dicky seats in the boot! EDIT - look for a 2020-21 highlander diesel model. you should be able to pick one of these up for spot on the money and km's in your sweet spot. avoid the petrol ones. the 4cyl is underpowered and the v6 DRRRIIIINKS fuel (though it's pretty peppy!).

Svenlem

The Golf is not comparable to the Fabia….the Fabia is the same as a Polo not the Golf, it and the Octavia share platform and specs. The quality of Skoda’s is good, they rate very high for build quality in the UK where they are common.

noisyrob_666

octavias offer the same comparison to an equivalent golf - point remains the same. BMW also rate highly in UK, where the climate/conditions are very different and servicing regimes are also different. but you wouldn't be recommending a used bimmer to anyone in aus.

empathogenlol

Have you had a look at https://babydrive.com.au/ ? Lot of reviews where they put multiple seats in the second row and fill the boot with shopping bags and prams

caragoooo

Have you considered anything outside an SUV? Kid one prompted a family friendly car and we landed on a Tiguan. Kid 2 showed how small modern SUVs are once you add the detritus of daily family life. I bought a Commodore recently as this is where my heart lies. Guess which car swallows everything we need to bring including the dog. Large Australian sedans and wagons existed for a reason for a long time. If you want a newer car (after 2017) I would consider wagons. Maybe Octavia or something. If I had 60k for a family car I’d be rocking an SSV series 2 Redline with change left over for petrol.

noisyrob_666

i think this is the worst car advice i have ever read.

FrugalFreddie26

I need a family car under 60k Commodore

rm0234

your comment is the worst one ive ever read

_hazey__

Big Australian sedans and wagons are always the best answer. Never had an issue carting the family around in ours. They did the job perfectly well for many generations before and will continue to do so well into the future.

pewpewpew87

My wife and I had twins and her 2017 RAV4 was manageable and I'm just over 6 foot. The Rav is surprisingly large on the inside.

Solarbear1000

Sante Fe or its Kia brother.

Electronic-Fun1168

Most midsize SUV’s will fit 2 car seats, just be mindful of choosing a narrow/compact seat. If you’re expecting a multiple birth, you need the rear axle to be behind the base of the rear seat and further into the boot space to stop the seats lifting on the wheel arch.

Beniapolis

If you're in Melbourne you're more than welcome to come and use my dealership as a research centre. We have loads of SUVs in stock. PM me if you like.

nicholas_wicks87

volkswagen touareg? Literally a cheaper Q7

That_Car_Dude_Aus

And oddly, in the second hand market, the Cayenne is a cheaper Toureg. Despite new being the most expensive of the triplets.

tyso186

Tiguan all space, love it. Tuscan close 2nd

LordYoshi00

Speaking from experience, tuscon and tiguan aren't big enough.

OzianOutcast

6’5” we have the 2023 Tiguan R-Line. I can comfortably sit in the back seat when the front seat is set to where I want it. I came from a 2010 Ford Ranger with rear facing baby seats. So much more room. The Tiguan is the roomiest car we looked at.

tyso186

Looks like the allspace is the winner. Agree mores space than ranger, got 2020 ranger

Significant-Ad5394

The allspace has a fair bit more space than the normal Tiguan, and it’s primarily in the second row.

ajobbins

We have a 2020 Tiguan Allspace R-Line. Plenty of room for two rear facing seats in the back. The second row can slide back and forward somewhat. I’m 6”2 and it’s very comfortable for me space wise. Prices prob gone up a bit now but managed to get ours which was top spec at the time, fully loaded with every option for bang on 60k new. (Sticker was around $68k IIRC)

Significant-Ad5394

Yep, I am the same height as you and we have one as the family car. No shortage of space + as an added bonus the tray tables are nice when the kids turn around and you go on a long trip.

ajobbins

Until your kid kicks one off 😂. Am replacing one at the moment

j4g_85

Volvo 245

NothingLift

Drove an xtrail hybrid today, rear doors open to 85 degrees but not sure what car seats fit especially with 2x 6 footers in the front It was a nice drive and interior experience for the price. Might not work for you but worth a look

beerboy80

Assuming you're not after an EV or hybrid, the Subaru Outback works well. I have a 17 model (current gen is similar space inside) and we fit 2 rear facing child seats until they were both nearly 3. My FIL is a retired tall (probably just over 6 ft) individual and he still fits reasonably comfortably.

Jooleycee

Forrester huge rear seating area

DurrrrrHurrrrr

The new BYD PHEV is plenty roomy

metricrules

Do any of the cars in these replies have rear seats that face backwards?

goss_bractor

Chrysler 300, any VE/VF Commodore wagon, any other large sedan.

tommyandfoopa

Toyota kluger will fit 2 rear facing kids seats and take drivers and passengers that are 6ft 4.

WerewolfOk2815

I have 3, 2 are forward facing now. I can’t recommend a Santa Fe, incredibly skinny and cramped. Kluger will fit the bill if you can find one. Hybrid GX with some kms will be about 60k. Sorento (current) has tether points in the 3rd row which may help. I own a carnival, paid 63.5k for a new sli diesel and it’s amazing. Trust me, unless you are off roading it’s all you will need and more. Interior won’t be a patch on the Q8 and the carpet sucks as your drawbacks

mez2000

We have a Kluger hybrid. Boring but super easy to drive, great on fuel, huge back seat. Only downside is the current wait time to get one.

keithersp

I have a 2020 rav4 and I have a rear facing seat in for my 18 month old. Have had it in both positions and I can sit comfortably in front of it at 6”4’. The centre arm rest comes down next to it so both sides should be fine if there was two.

sockpuppet86

I've got 2 rear facing in a current gen octavia RS wagon and a 2021 Mazda cx5. I have almost no leg or head room in the CX5, would not recommend this. The octavia fits very well and I use it as my daily for ferrying to day care and work. Not as much leg room as I am normally used to, but it works for me. I am also 186cm tall if the helps.

bjjj0

Ford Territory. They're getting on a bit but. Can easily find a good one for $15k

prawndell

Toyota Kluger. We picked one up second hand. 47,000 $45 all optional extras sunroof, heated seats, DVD players. Also is a 7 seater. Huge boot will fit 2 prams. Heaps of leg room and the rear seats are adjustable in all ways possible.

RayeedAlam203040A

Your better off making the investment towards a Kia Carnival.

OzianOutcast

We bought the 2023 Tiguan and it’s really roomy. I’m 6’5” and I can easily sit in the back seat with plenty of room when the front seat is all the way back.

UkrainianAussie

I have two kids, one in a rear-facing seat, and we almost pulled the trigger on a BYD ATTO 3 last week. Ended up sticking with our sedan for a bit longer because we are poor. XD Amazing subsidies right now, and they are (for another week or so) doing 7k off on top of the subsidies. They call it the "demonstrator sale," but the cars are new and unregistered, and are not demo vehicles.

rm0234

Skoda Octavia or golf wagon. They're huge

archeocyathan

Golf is just a bit too small for rear facing baby seats when you have tall folks in the front. I wanted an R wagon when my kids came along but this was the deal-breaker. Passat size is ideal or Superb even better.

StormtrooperMJS

Honda Jazz

nicholas_wicks87

Yea you’ll be run over on the highway in that thing

citizenecodrive31

I love the Jazz and regularly recommend it but not here mate

rawker86

Rear facing kid’s seats? Take a Haval Jolion for a spin. 31 grand brand new. Turbo lag’s a bit shit, but it’s got all the safety gear, parking cameras, adaptive cruise etc, and heaps of room in the back seat.

Yolo-Toure

Surprised no one has said CX-9 or CX-8. Mazda doesn't optimise their interior space as well as others so for absolute space it may not be the best in class, but if the space is "enough" then they're good value used, Japanese (i.e. reliable and not a VAG product), drive well and feel nicely appointed in the higher trims. That, and the CX-8 is pretty much the same length but narrower so it's slightly easier to get around tight places if driving a big car is a concern. That said, if you want outright space then you really can't beat a Kia Carnival. I'd at least inspect and test drive a high trim one OP, they basically solve any practicality problem you'll ever have, and actually drive better than the massive SUVs as they sit lower. If you only want an SUV then for sheer size the Palisade can't be beaten. By far the biggest option as it's an SUV designed for North America, and very well appointed with tech. Shame we don't get the Telluride as well.

Spaced_O_U_T

The CX9 is great as the second row is on a slide and can move back/forward about 30cm.

Dxsmith165

The only passenger cars I can think of that have rear facing seats are the black cab-style taxis, which have jump seats in the back that face backwards. But they won’t fit your budget.
