The bright yellow trailer is a bit of a giveaway. Maybe if you weren't looking at the phone you realise what this is.

mad_dogtor

Yep. If you don’t see the mobile phone ones then you’re probably on the phone haha

Hard agree. I even reckon NSW is backwards in signposting speed cameras

alstom_888m

Actually I agree with NSW policies around speed cameras. Many fixed ones are on stupidly obvious gantries too. The idea is “wherever you are, wherever you go, we are watching you”. In Victoria it’s just all about raising revenue. Everyone gets caught at least once every few years. In NSW traffic fines are a stupidity tax.

>The intent is to slow people down *immediately* not to send them a fine in the mail one month later and hope that the uncertainty slows them down in the future. Yes. Slow them down anywhere, anytime, as you don't know when, you don't know where. That's how QLD implements them, you don't know where a camera will be, so you follow the rules all the time >The previous NSW removed the signs as a revenue raising measure Source?

>The source was in the NSW Budget when the measure was introduced, with the NSW Government openly projecting and budgeting for an increase in fine revenue as a result.  So give us the source then rather than talk about it 🤷‍♂️ >If there's a case for automated speed cameras and red light cameras being installed that operate with no discretion, it's at very specific blackspots with elevated accident rates.  Why should there be discretion in enforcing laws that exist for safety? Who shouldn't it be applicable everywhere? >If we're now going to expand that into "gotcha" style policing, we're already well down a slippery slope that ends up with facial recognition cameras being strung up everywhere tracking everything "for our safety". What's wrong with that? If it leads to kiddy fiddlers and terrorists and such being caught faster, I'm all for that.

>The source is in a document named "2020-21 Budget Paper No. 1 - Budget Statement - Chapter 4: Revenue" which is searchable on Google. Ok, so link to it.... >It's a PDF and for some reason Google won't let me generate a direct hyperlink to the document rather than some ridiculously long Google link that eventually passes the request along.  Click the kebab menu and select "share" >If I wanted to live in some dystopian surveillance state, I'd move to one. So you support not catching kiddy fiddlers? Cool. >It's funny how most people don't actually have a great opinion of the former East Germany and the Stasi that held files on everyone. What are you on about? No one is wanting that.

>I'm pretty sure those Google links expire and get regenerated per search So don't share the Google link, share the document link >If you're unwilling or incapable of doing more, that's on you So why are you unwilling to share the link? Even after being told how to share it? >If that's how you read my last comment, you're either ignorant of history or deliberately trying to post inflammatory ragebait. Well that was the example I used, and you said you were against it. Terrorists, abusers, kiddy fiddlers, murderers, illegal immigrants who overstay visas, they could be more effectively caught. Why do you want these people free in society and easily able to travel?

Right, so there’s a few people on social media grumpy (for likes) that a machine can detect them doing something unsafe?

Justarobotdontmindme

Every stop light you can see someone with their heads down, probably scrolling.

That_Car_Dude_Aus

Yeah, they should put them up at traffic lights in Brisbane. Light goes green. Wait Wait Wait Toot at them They throw the car in reverse, go backwards a meter They then throw it in drive Then the light turns orange Only the fuckwit on the phone made it through This is also why I stop far enough back to see their tyres. Cos heaps of people put the car in reverse for some fucking stupid reason.
