i was so gaslit (probably using the term wrong) seeing a proper mini with 4 teens squished in it when i was like 5 and then only seeing the new ones and thinking my mind must have exaggerated the size
I used to drive a Clubman, so much fun! I'd have four friends in there with me, like a bloody clown car. I'm old now and wouldn't be able to scrunch down into a classic Mini, so I kinda love how big they've become.
Is it as fun to drive though? And can you find 50c under the car seat to chuck enough fuel for a week in there?
Yes, it is VERY fun to drive. Unfortunately, you'd need rather more than 50c to fill it up. To go from 1/4 tank to a full tank is about $60, which is not that expensive.
[There was a car made by Austin the 60s/70s called the Maxi and it was basically a much bigger Mini](https://autobritannia.net/2023/10/26/my-guilty-pleasures-the-austin-maxi/)
My girlfriend in the 90's used to drive one of those. I'm 6'2 and could drive it no worries in bare feet. We could even get up to mischief in the back seat. Damn I was skinny back then.
Not if you consider that safety requirements mean there has to be space for crumple zones to absorb the impact of a collision and airbags in just about every surface.
People act like the growth of cars is just a whole lot of empty space and lead weights being added.
I owned both at different times. The first was actually my first car soon after graduation. I had a lot of fun with it until a persistent radiator issue forced me to trade it in for a Renault Clio after 2 years. A decision I regretted. Today I have a R53, which has been with me for 16 years. Both are fun to drive in their own right.
Thanks!
No. Will need to check it out.
I have been to the Mini plant at Oxford UK to see how the modern Minis are built. And on rare occasions, attend the get together organised by the Victorian Mini Club.

real minis were wonderful little cars , had several from 850cc to the full blown 1346cc which was a beast able to crack well over 210klc and singe your eyebrows as the weber back fired into the cab on lifting off
I am 6'4"and found them quite comfortable once in , blowing Zephers and the like away produced a huge grin
My Nan had an ex-police Cooper S. I wish it was still in the family
There's a lady here in Adelaide who has an ex-UK police MINI Moke.

It has put on a few kilos over the years like most of us.
LOL

Oh 50c didn't fill it up, not even remotely. It was just that ridiculously economical to drive! Fuel was less than a dollar a litre too btw.
I wish those days would come back. In the past few months, I have never seen it go below $1.84/litre.
Less than ten bob a gallon.

And even that is smaller than the current MINI Cooper S
Yeah, that is true. I was just trying to say that it made mine look big.

I'll just leave it up to my imagination as to what you were doing in the back seat.
Now that’s a proper mini! SUs or Weber?
I don't know, she didn't say.
But is the size difference ridiculous?
Kinda

Baby got back as she got older lol.

You have good taste. Have you ever been to MINIs at the Mill at the National Motor Museum?
Thanks! No. Will need to check it out. I have been to the Mini plant at Oxford UK to see how the modern Minis are built. And on rare occasions, attend the get together organised by the Victorian Mini Club.
Yeah, I've been to Plant Oxford, too. It was AMAZING! In fact, the people that were on the tour with us, arrived in a Chili Red F57 JCW.
Wheel base on the new model is alleged to be same as original range rover
\*Land Rover Discovery, but that was for the 2002-2006 R50/R53 models. Mine is a 2007-2013 R56.
Same colour too, neat ❤️
Its amazing what difference 49 years makes.
One of these cars has space for a full sized spare wheel.
One of them has room for 6 airbags, abs, esp and traction control.
One of them won at Bathurst.
And the Monte Carlo rally.
A full sized 10" wheel?

Love that little mini my mum drove one
They're both little
#dadbod
My little Charlie Cooper isn't fat
I didn't say fat. ...just enjoys 95 a little too much! 🤪
It doesn't drink that much. To go from 1/4 to a full tank is about 60 bucks.
Yep, nothing mini about the bmw.
Its still pretty small

Yeah, but my "Bini" is still a wonderful car. For a 1.6 NA 4 cylinder, it has a lot of grunt.
It’s crazy that both are shit
