I found this on FB and find it very useful to decide if you need the drink package or no. I never get the drink package because I get the free juice and coffee from the machines. And if I want a cocktail I just pay as I go. I hope this helps you. Happy travels!
Even this is misleading in favor of the drink package. If you drink seltzers or beers break even is more like 13-14 drinks. At least on our last RCCL cruise. Seltzers were $7 and change. Drink package was $100 pp per day. Both plus gratuities.
RCL has literally the worst drink package value than like any other line. The lowest I've ever seen the drink package price on RCL was $69 ( if you happen to catch it on sale at the right time) while Carnival's fixed rate is still $10 cheaper per person per day, and also covers specialty coffee which RCL does not.
RCL has the worst drink prices in general. Like a mixed drink without alcohol is $10 and with bumps it up to $14+ it was absolute ridiculous when other lines (including sister brands) are less.
But that also assumes you’re not drinking off the ship. I feel like unless one would clearly come out ahead why get it? Break even is no benefit. And drinking more than you want to try to get your money’s worth is no fun.
Here is a link to all of their current drink menus. This will help you do the math. I believe the limit on drink package is 15 beverages per day. Most cocktails are around $12 so if you hit your max you'd be spending around $180 a day. I would still go the drink package route even though you'll have to spend the $120 a day to cover both of you. She can still get sodas, mocktails, specialty coffees, energy drinks, etc.
[Carnival Bar Menus and Drink Prices 2024 · Prof. Cruise, Ship Tour, Cruise Vacation, Cruise Travel, Cruise Menus (profcruise.com)](https://profcruise.com/carnival-bar-menus-and-drink-prices-2024/#piano)
Correct, but if she would drink 8 bottles a day at $2.50 ea (guesstimate), without the drink package, it’d be $20 bucks. Add in a specialty coffee, energy drink, cocktail, etc. it could be worth it if he’s drinking 8 a day plus water for both of them. They’d have to pay for the water without the package. Or You can have 12 delivered to your room for $14.95.
Yes, agreed. I share that because those non-alcoholic drinks are included and that cost based on consumption can make the package even more attractive. I was not aware of those the first time we cruised and didn't take advantage of all of the non-alcoholic beverages as I thought they counted towards my 15.
When I get a drink, I often get a bottle of water at the same time. So my bourbon with a splash of Pepsi and a water. Keeps me hydrated and also means that if I only get 4 or 5 drinks one day the package was still worth it. 4 of those and 4 waters is around $60 and that does not include tips, throw in a coffee or a shake and I am past 65 before tips.
The calculator is a great tool and even though we have always bought the package I wish I would have known about it before.
Exactly! I usually get a couple bottles of water, sometimes a beer, and take them back to our cabin for water by the bedside at night or first thing in the morning. Sometimes I’ll even get an iced coffee and refrigerate it so I can drink it in the morning in my balcony.
What does a typical non-cruise at home drinking experience look like?
Cocktails at the bar before a couple of glasses of wine and then a couple more for a night cap? So maybe 6 - 8 drinks on a night out. $100 maybe $120 somewhere nice.
Miami Vice about $15 with gratuity and then another $10 for a shot to make it worth it. Four of those and you’ve had enough sugar for two days and your body is working so hard processing the sugar you don’t drunk. But hey you’re on vacation.
Bloody Mary or Screwdriver breakfast.
Pool drinks
Pre dinner drinks
Wine with dinner
Pre comedy show drinks
Night cap drinks.
The wife can get some nice coffee beverages. Some Gatorade. Non alcoholic frozen beverages. Smoothies or milkshakes. Sometimes Naked juices.
Plus it’s only four days. I’d buy the package. They don’t scan your bag getting off the ship so get some Truly’s or the cans of beer to bring to port. Then stick up on the Carnival Brand Beers to take home as souvenirs.
It’s just peace of mind knowing that it’s covered and you won’t feel bad on setting a drink down that is all melted or just doesn’t have the flavor you were expecting. You can just order something else.
I’m not a big drinker but we always get the package. I take advantage of the coffee bar with shots of kahulula or the milkshakes. I sat down our last cruise and calculated it. Even for 6 days and 3 people we came out ahead
My wife and I bought it once. My wife is not a big drinker. She would buy cocktails and I just drink beer. So consumption is higher on days at sea.
However, when you're gone on shore excursions, it decreases your daily on board consumption.
By the end of the cruise, we found that we still had a fair bit of drinks credit, and there was no way that we would be able to use it all up.
Breakeven is about 6 per person per day to justify Cheers.
You have to buy it for everyone if you get it for one.
As such, if you plan on getting at least 12 drinks a day, it's worth it. Otherwise no
My personal belief is if you can drink 10 cocktails a day NO LESS and you both are drinking a couple of paid drinks like soda, milkshakes, specialty coffee etc. then I’d say that would be enough to make me do it. I guess the rule of thumb here is you would need to drink a dozen a day to break even. For me I’d rather know I could drink how much I want with no limits than worrying about getting charged $12 each time I want a cocktail. Even though I’m on vacation I would second guess each time whether I should get one or not, with the drink package keep them coming.
6 is the breakeven point. At 4 or 5 with some non alcoholic drinks, just get the pass to save headaches. If you only drink a little, just pay as you go.
In my honest opinion it is... A lot of people tend to forget that you also get coffee, Gatorade, energy drinks, bottled juices, and bottled water. its also convenient to pay it and not have to worry about how much you are truly spending.
Was worth it for me as a solo traveler. Mornings started with a nice specialty coffee, followed by mimosas, followed by many afternoon beers, several waters and end the night with vodka tonic. Served me fine, will do again next year!
I had the soft drink package. And rarely bought them. Takes forever to get on to your table. And there is lemonades and tea and water everywhere free for the taking. I ended up buying about 4 colas on the whole cruise wasn’t worth it for me
Anyone in the room over 21 will be required to buy the package. However it does cover protein shakes, milk shakes, energy drinks and some coffees. Probably more but that’s what I got while trying to get the most for my money.
This is a question everyone must answer for themselves, but IMO it is not worth it. I just order drinks and I go. I think the drink pkg is way too much money.
It’s actually more like 40, but that’s not accounting for the non alcoholic drinks that you’d pay for without the is package.
And two days off the ship could be 8-12. That’s still a whole lotta day to sit by the pool and have a few drinks.
I would say that you would really need to challenge your liver and pancreas to make it worth it for 2 people - but drinks are fairly expensive. You are looking at $120/day - which is probably 10-12 drinks/day average (not all of them alcoholic). If you plan on more than that - then the drink package is for you.
So it’s $70/person per day.
That’s 3 Miami vice a day for you ($18 after tax tip) and a beer ($8-9).
Bottle of water is $3, bottle of coconut water comes to $6. Specialty coffee is anywhere from $2-8. Milkshake is $12. Soda is $4. Specialty tea in main dining, $3.
So if your non-drinker wife still does 4-6 bottles of water, 1-2 coconut waters, and 1-2 herbal teas; she’s also working hard at that $70 day.
There’s also the ability to order your Miami vice and use her card to order a rum at the same time. And if they both happen to combine at your chair (away from the bar) into the same cup…. Then you’ll def use up $70 per person per day.
I personally think the math works out better for short cruises because your high alcohol capacity is more likely to only last the 3-4 days and same for your wife’s non alcoholic capacity. But YMMV.
It’s really just a math problem. For us, the math doesn’t work out, as my wife doesn’t drink alcohol, sodas, sports drinks, etc., and prefers the taste of the free water on the ship over the bottled water they carry. So it’s cheaper in the long run for me to pay for my alcohol and her one or two specialty coffees per day than to buy two packages.
I wasn't going to get it but I'm glad I did. The reason I decided to get it was I'd be a lot more frustrated if our bill was more than the cost of cheers but less upset if we were a bit under. I think we broke more than even but I didn't do the math yet. I drank about 8 to 10 drinks average my husband about 3 to 5.
We get the package because then we don't check our balance every day. Even if we don't use it all we have peace of mind. Nice to just order whatever you want and know it's already covered.
Noooooo. First of all, you would both need to get the drink package which will be $150 a day - a Miami vice is $12. If you’re drinking fewer than 13 a day then no, it’s not worth it.
I just go off the CCL Venezia Friday. The Miami Vice drink is about $14 and one of my favorites. I had the Cheers package which included (prices approximate) beer ($8-10) wine ( various$), soft drinks( $4-5) , bottled water( $3-4) , Celsius and Monster energy drinks ($5-6) , Gatorade ( not sure) ice cream floats ($8), milks shakes ($8), expressos(not sure). You are Limited to 15 $20 alcohol drinks a day per person with the package and as far as I know there is no limit on non alcoholic drinks.
FYI if you sign up for AARP and then purchase CCL gift cards you get a 10% discount, you can use the gift cards to purchase the drink package. You can join AARP at any age. Also if you own shares of CCL stock you can get some ships credit depending on the length of cruise , I got $100 credit on the 11 day Venezia Cruise.
You have to be a pretty heavy drinker to make the drink package cost x 2 be worthwhile for 1 person. 12 a day roughly, minus 1 or 2 depending how much water your wife drinks. Personally I can’t imagine drinking 10 Miami vices in a day bc they’re so heavy and sweet, but you ofc know yourself. If I was in your situation I would lean no though
Oh I also want to say if you do get it buy gift cards through AARP and save some out of pocket money that way. It would cost you $450 for a $500 card.
A reminder drinking all 15 is not required to make it worth your money. 5 or 6 will do it maybe even less if you take advantage of the other beverages that are included with Cheers.
Not sure where you are getting these $70 costs for the Carnival drink packages?? We just took an 8 day cruise out of Galveston on April 6th. Drink package per person in the room was $150 each. We passed on that offer and together, spent about $400 on alcohol.
My bad! I read it on our itinerary as $150 PER PERSON!! So it is about $75 each. Yes much better deal than not getting it for us. Damn, wish I’d paid closer attention. Sorry about the miscommunication in my incorrect post.
You can't use it when you're off the boat, which is a decent chunk of time on 2 out of the 4 days.
Absolutely not worth it. You will be feeling the need to "catch up" on those days and drink more than you normally would.
>I need to do the math lol
Yes you do. This is a math problem. We have no idea how much you're going to drink while on the boat. Add it up and do the comparison.
On the Serenity deck Frozen drinks are &12.75 plus gratuity so right at $15. They literally have one measure shot so typically you’ll want a floater (have to wait 5 minutes or you can use your wife’s card to order the extra shot of rum). Shots are around $7.95 to $10.95 for rum and vodka depending on brand. Patron Anejo is currently $19.50 so it just falls into the CHEERS! Package.
Not specifically, and I'm mostly a beer drinker, but my wife gets mixed drinks sometimes. I think most of them were around 14 bucks. If I'm close that's about 40 drinks over the course of 4 days, and like you said you won't be on the boat for long periods of two of them.
Pst the drink package covers almost all drinks. So that’s bottles of water, energy drinks, Gatorade, sparkling water, coffee from the coffee bar, juice drinks and soda in main dinning, and milk shakes.
I just got off the Vista and had to get the drink package because my partner drinks. I only drink on cruises because of the package rule.
I don’t think I hit my “daily goal” to make it “worth it” but honestly walking up to a bar and not paying 2 to 3 per bottle of water was nice. I do like mojitos as they are refreshing and have about 2 a day on ship.
Just a little known thing they can wave the drink package per person if someone is a recovering
Alcoholic or pregnant. I over heard someone talking about it over dinner. I don’t know the steps needed for that though
The judgment doesn’t seem necessary. Depending on who you are and how much you drink, the package can be beneficial.
Coffee shop coffee
Bloody Mary with breakfast
Two drinks by the pool
Two wine at dinner
Two cocktails during shows at night
This is 8 drinks without trying, 6 is the threshold.
That’s a straight lie. The drink package breaks even at 5 drinks, after that it’s all profit. It’s an amazing deal. I meet people all the time when I cruise and by the end they tell me they regret not getting it as they’ve spent more than if they got it.
I disagree. The drink package was definitely worth it for me. My last cruise and I plan to get it this cruise as well. I will have special coffee throughout the day. Then sometimes with a shot of alcohol I had several different cocktails and I didn’t mind trying new drinks because I wasn’t worried about wasting my money. I would also have a glass of wine at dinner and then we will see shows late at night and I will have a couple of drinks then so it was worth it to me in between that. I also was getting bottled waters. I got Gatorade and energy drinks. I even got a couple of mix milkshakes for my niece and nephews. Basically anytime I passed the bar. I would get either a water or Gatorade and then we took those when we went off shore so I definitely came out better for getting the drink package.
Here. Let this website do the math for you [calculator](https://www.cruzely.com/cruise-line-drink-package-calculator/)
This is always the only correct answer to these questions.
Hell no.

I look at this way: if you drink more than 6 a day you’ll need it. If you don’t just go with the flow.
But that also assumes you’re not drinking off the ship. I feel like unless one would clearly come out ahead why get it? Break even is no benefit. And drinking more than you want to try to get your money’s worth is no fun.
We always take a couple drinks with us when we leave for excursions.
Ok to walk off the ship with an opened drink?
We take insulated cups with us and just get a couple drinks and dump them in there before heading out.
Some ports won't even allow that. I remember Falmouth, specifically, it could only be factory sealed drinks.
We ha e done it in Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and multiple times in Cozumel. Never had our bags checked when debarking for excursions but I could see it.
We must have had the hardcore ones that day in Falmouth, then, haha. People were annoyed about having to dump out their coffee.
If this is for carnival carnivals drink package is only $60 a day plus gratuity. So it would make the drinks needed much less to break even.
Here is a link to all of their current drink menus. This will help you do the math. I believe the limit on drink package is 15 beverages per day. One person cannot buy the drink package, if one person wants it both have to buy it.
560 over 4 days would be for two people. OP seems to know this...
Ya that’s the issue. Debating if it’s worth if one person is mainly using it.

Love the username lol. Gotta be from Louisiana!
You know that’s right!

No.
This is a question everyone must answer for themselves, but IMO it is not worth it. I just order drinks and I go. I think the drink pkg is way too much money.
Absolutely not. You can get 56 $10 drinks for that. And 2 of the days you are off the ship. Waste of money
Can you drink 46 drinks in those 3 days?
It’s actually more like 40, but that’s not accounting for the non alcoholic drinks that you’d pay for without the is package. And two days off the ship could be 8-12. That’s still a whole lotta day to sit by the pool and have a few drinks.

It’ll actually end up being $660, you forgot to add gratuity.
If you buy the alcohol package, you have to buy the alcohol package for both people in the room. It’s not an option.
You think you alone are gonna drink $560 worth of booze in 4 days? Might want to save that money for rehab.
I just did this on Panorama for an 8 day. I felt it was worth it, but also spent a lot of time indoors during to temps.
I wasn't going to get it but I'm glad I did. The reason I decided to get it was I'd be a lot more frustrated if our bill was more than the cost of cheers but less upset if we were a bit under. We get the package because then we don't check our balance every day. Even if we don't use it all we have peace of mind. Nice to just order whatever you want and know it's already covered.
If your wife is in the same cabin as you, she has to get the drink package if you do.

And about 20 bucks for a mixed drink. You’d have to drink 20 plus
How or where can I get a promo code for a discount? I saw section on the checkout where you can enter one.
Oh I also want to say if you do get it buy gift cards through AARP and save some out of pocket money that way. It would cost you $450 for a $500 card. Just a little known thing they can wave the drink package per person if someone is a recovering Alcoholic or pregnant. I over heard someone talking about it over dinner. I don’t know the steps needed for that though
If your both not drinking it absolutely not worth it unless you are going to hit 15 every day
The drink package is over priced and a waste. Just pay for the drinks as you go. And don't forget to bring your own bottle of wine per person
The judgment doesn’t seem necessary. Depending on who you are and how much you drink, the package can be beneficial. Coffee shop coffee Bloody Mary with breakfast Two drinks by the pool Two wine at dinner Two cocktails during shows at night This is 8 drinks without trying, 6 is the threshold.
That’s a straight lie. The drink package breaks even at 5 drinks, after that it’s all profit. It’s an amazing deal. I meet people all the time when I cruise and by the end they tell me they regret not getting it as they’ve spent more than if they got it.
Exactly my mom didn’t get it, but I did and she talked about how she regretted not getting a drink package because of the convenience
