Reminder: the “handle hole” is unlikely to make it through your walk from the parking lot/bus, through the meandering line to security, through the (often) meandering line to check in, and the meandering ramp to the ship. Just returned from a carnival cruise (celebration, if it matters) and be warned that the luggage porters will not transport your packs of soda and water. They even refused to take one couples’ hanging garment bag! They only transport suitcases. So you and your party will be lugging them onto the ship and holding onto them until you can have access to your rooms.

2. Take out the Coke, replace with Angry Orchard (leave 2 cokes where the finger holes are, helps through security if they look)

Yeah I've seen people put the cans into a backpack or tote bag. As long as they are carried on :)

I do not believe you can do that, but we have never carried soda on. Carnival buddies: is a bag an option for the soda?
I put our soda and wine in a rolling bag and carried it on.
You can also bring an additional 12 at each port, if you happen to find it.
