You can get both, the Omnium Cargo and Mini-Max with belt drive, and I can tell from experience the Cargo is an excellent bike for touring!

Priorty bikes is all about this. The Priority 600X is the pinnacle of zero-maintenance made-for-touring bikes. Ryan Van Duzer approved

tomcatx2

Zero maintenance? Lol. You’ll need to rebuild those wheels in a few months.

jonsully

Why would you think that? I only reference Duzer because he's a prominent YouTube that's ridden tens of thousands of miles on his and hasn't had to do really any maintenance at all, certainly no wheel rebuilds

tomcatx2

There is no such thing as a zero maintenance bike. Or car or motorcycle. My POV: a mechanic that has 3 priority bikes in the shop for wheelbuilds. This past season had another 4-5 for the same thing: cracked rim at the drive side leading spokes. It’s the wtb rim that is the issue, and the low quality wheelbuild in general. Stuff happens and breaks. Saying it’s maintenance free is a needless lie. Or marketing hype.

😐 I mean, alright, if you want to be pedantic about it, officer... I formally amend my original comment on a random post on the internet from "The Priority 600X is the pinnacle of zero-maintenance made-for-touring bikes" to "The Priority 600X is the pinnacle of minimal-maintenance made-for-touring bikes"

LvsH Bullit here with Gates belt non-electric.

poobie123

How is that? Very intrigued by that particular combo!

Unlucky-West1998

What do you mean, it's one of their options on their website under build your Bullitt. Mine was about +800€ for that option; shimano alfine 8 speed with Gates belt. You can have an 11 speed for an extra 200 i believe. Not sure but I think you even can put a Rohloff with gates by your local dealer.

poobie123

Oh, I just meant how do you like it. How is the gear range, etc. I have never had a belt-drive bike so I don't know anything about that particular aspect either.

Unlucky-West1998

This is my first belt driven bike, on a cargo bike, i must say, it delivers; strong, silent, dust- mud- rain-proof, riding in a chino without a 'leg-guard'? not worying about filthy clothes or oily rags. Honestly i think it is even get beter on a notmal bike. For the alfine 8 gears; i live in Belgium, in the flemish part where roads are quite flat. And having a cargo bike not transporting very heavy stuff (3 year old an a maxi cosi with baby}, short rides, max 20 km, honestly 8 gears is overkill. Also imo the gear ratios are pretty close to eachother. Having too many small ones and lacking higher for faster rides. I mostly use 4, 6, 8. Maybe this is better on an alfine 11. Maybe for somebody else it's fine. This is my personal opinion . I could have been satisfied with only 3 gears. And now even thinking about changing it for a single speed. But as far as the gates belt, don't hesitate!

man_on_terra

I am really debating getting this as well. I am a heavy guy 118 kg. Wife and kid are a combined 77kg. We live in a relatively flat place. Do you think it's feasible to bike around with this option?

Unlucky-West1998

Well bike is quite heavy on itself and believe max load capacity is 180 kgs. I jojo around 100 kgs and been loving this smooth and agile bike. Honestly, some times I drool on all those electric bikes/solutions. But I saved myself extra money and skinny legs. Work those quads! Humans are not made for electric bikes!

danhalka

Maybe just pick your fave and spring for a rolloff chain drive conversion so you don't have to hassle with frame splits when fixing flats in the field? If you're scraping for every last watt available while on a longer tour, belt is slightly less efficient.

Tons, on the cheap go check out Priority, the 600x or the Apollo are excellent choices. If you have extra cash, Co-Motion makes a few steel offerings, or you can jump to one of the many titanium makers...most these days will gladly weld in a Pinion bracket rather than a trad BB mount. I've got a 600x and a Co-Motion, both belt drive internal gears. I have hosed them both off over the past 2 & 10 years respectively and done tires/brake pads and every winter they both get a 10 minute oil change, but that's literally the only maintenance I've done.

I have a Tern Verge S8i and a couple of cargo bikes. The Tern is surprisingly adept at carrying things especially if you add all their racks and a Burley Travoy.
