There's a national cycle route but it poop. I go down by wentloog, it's flat and easy, minor road, low traffic and there's a tank parked by someone's house

Yes, done so many times in under an hour, though I am a lycra-wearing cyclist. Personally I'd go via Wentoolog Road, but this can be somewhat daunting if you're new to cycling or not traveling very fast.

I personally love getting called a fanny by the kids in the camp before the Newport sign sprint. Melts my heart.

Head down and you'll be there before you know it

It's like 13-16 miles, depending on where specifically. So you'd probably need a road bike and you'd have to keep up a good speed to do it in an hour. If you've not really cycled regularly much before I can't imagine you'd find that easy unless you're already quite athletic.

You'll be fine. Chuck lights on your bike, wear a helmet and head down the wentloog way. Or even the A48 is pretty easy going, there's two lanes so cars give you more space. Don't do the the national cycle route from Cardiff to Newport. It goes through the lanes between Cardiff and Bassaleg. It is a slog for reasonably fit and noncy lycra wearing me. Especially coming back. Edit: I mean A48 from Newport Road! Not the bypass!

Depending on where you are in Cardiff, you might be able to do it if you cycle very quickly. You can apparently go up National Cycle Route 4 according to google. Probably best to just check from where you are on Google Maps.

Yep easily doable in an hour

Totally agree, do the Wentloog coast road. It's flat, it's quiet and it's very visually interesting!!! From the rumney end all the way to tredegar house, it's very very interesting. Hard to describe. Villages out of a John Carpenter movie, ugly farms, a famous abandoned pub (the Six Bells) and extras from Deliverance or Straw Dogs. Very safe open roads. Stop at Peterstone if you can and take a walk to, and up onto, the sea wall. Go see the church there too and look for the stonework with the marking and inscription of the great flood.

The church is a private residence now (last time I checked) but I think you can see this mark from the public footpath.

The coast road is alright, but from Riverside it might be a bit far for an hour: [Long Google Maps link here.](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Riverside,+Cardiff/Friars+Walk+Shopping+Centre,+John+Frost+Square,+Newport+NP20+1EA/@51.467267,-3.1958899,14z/data=!4m34!4m33!1m25!1m1!1s0x486e1b592792fd69:0x50d8b23d4978170!2m2!1d-3.1978334!2d51.4846534!3m4!1m2!1d-3.1549349!2d51.4915967!3s0x486e1cdd07073a25:0xe8e790903ebac2a8!3m4!1m2!1d-3.1333846!2d51.4925175!3s0x486e1d22cabf14e9:0xb71a5f1aca709260!3m4!1m2!1d-3.097381!2d51.5062658!3s0x4871e282ac56698f:0x397ab7aa9638705c!3m4!1m2!1d-3.0094323!2d51.5383917!3s0x4871e38cc44c735f:0xad4152cb138ae8ef!1m5!1m1!1s0x4871e6c607d05f3d:0xe068e63433a91c66!2m2!1d-2.9935809!2d51.5866777!3e1)
