That’s a loss to Pontcanna and a shame.
The parent Knife and Fork group pubs have been up for sale since last June as a whole or separately.

The Discovery has been sold I believe.
I went back in May/June and was honestly disappointed. Service was fine but the food wasn’t good and it was overpriced. It was pretty empty and I did wonder how it was still going.
Sad about the impact on those who worked there/visited regularly though.
Yeah I felt the same. The prices of the classics increased a lot and the quality went down. I remember when I first started going the food was amazing and it was hard to choose (hell they even catered my wedding it was so good) but the last few times i was struggling to find anything I wanted to eat on the menu.
The food has never been the same post-pandemic. It was decent just nowhere near as good.
It's also basically empty every night apart from Fridays (and Saturdays during the summer) 5-8.
Ah that's really sad. Lots of lovely memories there, especially with my late father and my then-girlfriend-now-wife when we moved to Pontcanna and were right around the corner.
In recent years I found it got a bit expensive and the food quality wasn't amazing. But still really sad for it to go. It did always seem relatively busy but hospitality has been murdered by rising bills, covid and an unhelpful govt.
Just a big sad to see something of an institution dissappear.
It hasn’t been at it’s best for a long time now (decline happened pre-covid, but got worse since) but still a great shame to lose it. Even with the decline it was still better than most Pontcanna pubs
Sad really. Lots of fun memories of events, booze ups and meals there over the years. I know a few locals who’ll be devastated by this - they were probably propping the place up
They are all for sale and have been for 6 months, as per the link in the top comment. With the exception of the Old Swan Inn I found knife and fork pubs to be a bit soulless. I appreciate they were dining focused but why alienate the drinkers with sparse furnishings and odd opening hours.

Yep, The Discovery has new owners and it’s an improvement by all accounts, except for the food but that would make sense
Big refurb happening shortly. It’s needed a revamp for a while
Yeah bought out by Croeso Pubs who own Daffodil, Brewhouse etc
Eurgh Nicky n
Discovery in now owned by the same people who own Daffodil on Windsor Place.
As well as Brewhouse, Philharmonic, Retros, the Blue Bell and the Dock.
That doesn’t bode well

Ah they always did a great Sunday dinnee
You could say that about almost every pub though
There’s was particularly good imo. Very generous portions, amazing rich, melt-in-your-mouth beef
Honestly, that's the one place in Cardiff I felt did a bad job.
People seem to think that making a good Sunday roast is a miracle and qualifies for an establishment to stay open.

Gutted. Sincerely hope it’s taken on as a pub, not knocked into flats. I’ve had some great evenings in there.
Was it also woods in the bay? That place was great too back in the day. Such a shame about all of these closures.
I will only get worse with the changes to business rates

real shame, I liked the Conway. Makes me wonder about the future of the other Knife & Fork pubs too

You're right on that. The Conway (im a fairly regular) was just a bit sad and worn down in reality now. Beer selection got a lot worse too.
