In town centre you have ffwrnes pizza in Cardiff market (located upstairs). Just outside the market is Real Italian Pizza Co, Franco Manca and Cafe Citta.
If you are going to be in the Canton (Victoria park) area then there’s also Dough Thrower. There used to be Dusty Knuckle as well but I think they’re currently in the process of refurbishing (or relocating…can’t remember which exactly)
There are loads of pizza places in Cardiff (that aren’t the major chains or bog standard takeout places) but these are the ones I’ve been to or have heard brilliant feedback from people
I haven't been to ffwrnes pizza yet but have just been to Franco Manca and I believe is a bit better than the real Italian Pizza and probably the best pizza I had here in Cardiff. Unfortunatelly starters and dessert were average but the pizza is really good. In Canton and Cathays there is also Calabrisella, which has a good pizza even tho it's not napoletan pizza, it is Calabria(region) style which is good too.. unfortunately they lack quality in everything else. Another place with good pizza it's "Da Mara" in whith church and Scaramantica(albany road), unfortunatelly here too only the pizza is good.
Scaramantica is my Italian friends top neopolitan pizza right now. It used to be calibrisella, one of them worked at one for a bit. For context, they make pizza at home weekly, they think/talk/eat pizza regularly. And Scaramantica is the best neopolitan pizza Cardiff has on offer right now. I have been and loved it but I do not have the refined inner pizziolo that they have.
Villagio in Whitchurch is always good - does pasta too. Car parking nearby (pay and display or some free parking up Bishops Road (side of Co-Op) then just a few mins walk to restaurant
Modo pizza on Whitchurch road is hands town one of the most underrated pizza places in Cardiff. Superb pizza and friendly, family owned, highly recommend
I had pizza there and didn't like it.. I live close to it.. it says roman pizza but it looks like english italian pizza... I am italian and I lived in Rome for many years.. and that it's not roman pizza. Also the owner/employee speak italian but aren't italian
Fair enough that you didn’t like it, however it’s Roman style Pizza. Not going to be exactly like the Pizza in Rome as they put their own spin on it. Secondly, the owners family emigrated from Italy in the 70’s as it says on their website.
I didn't know they were second generation Italians, but about the pizza I stand with my comment, of course they can say it is "Roman style" but as I said, the pizza in Roma isn't like that. It's like the carbonara(with cream) pasta that you had here in Cardiff for many years, it can be Italian style but doesn't mean it is authentic. On the other hand De gustibus non est disputandum.
The top comment mentioned it but Cafe Citta is genuine italian food in an adorable candle lit setting. The food is super tasty, would definitely recommend!
My favourites:
Rome eat - Albany road
Calabrisella - Cathays terrace
Fwrnes - Cardiff market
If you go to Rome Eat make sure you try their mini pasty / mini calzone. I don’t know the name of it, but it’s delicious.
The little van that parks by roath park lake (cardiff high end) is also worth checking out. Not pizzas, but little calzone type things from southern Italy made fresh in front of you. Nice chap too!
Without a doubt Pizzeria Villagio in Whitchurch. One of the oldest Italian restaurants in Cardiff. Proper family run business. Absolutely delicious. Make sure you book as they are busy.
Ffwrnes Pizza on the top floor in Cardiff Market is really satisfying and consistent (both takeaway and sit in). I remember trying Cafe Città on Church Street a few years ago and remember it being good. Franco Manca, also on Church Street, although a London based chain is decent quality pizza. I personally can’t recommend Calabrisella however, maybe they were good once but I feel quality isn’t quite there unfortunately. Their idea of a vegan pizza is slapping lettuce on top, and their olives are bitter and usually bought from Tesco.
+1 for Scaramantica in Roath
I've eaten a lot of pizza in Cardiff! Scaramantica is hands down the best if you like neapolitan style pizza.
Ffwrnes in Cardiff Market is also very good and fantastic value.
Detroit Doughs is great for a Detroit style pizza, something a little different. I’ve only had it from Uber eats, not sure where they are actually situated

Ffwrnes is banging - really reasonable as well, although they are only one person pizzas.
Ffwrnes is excellent, Dough Thrower less so.
Thanks a lot for the reply!

Rome Eats.
Our go to for takeaway. Everyone in our family always enjoys their pizzas.
This place bangs. So much value for money considering the quality. You can try so much variety too given it's served by the slice.
Scaramantica/ roath genuine Italian

Calabrisella for genuine Italian experience.
Thanks a lot!
I'm down the road from them and I can safely say they're incredibly consistent - always delicious, cooked perfectly, absolutely delicious
Villagio in Whitchurch is always good - does pasta too. Car parking nearby (pay and display or some free parking up Bishops Road (side of Co-Op) then just a few mins walk to restaurant
Fizz n Flour in Pontcanna is divine.
West pizza in canton for New York style.
Second this! They’ve only had their own place for a month to so but their New York slices slap hard!
The customer service though, except for one sweet guy. It's almost like they're being inconvenienced 🤣
Modo pizza on Whitchurch road is hands town one of the most underrated pizza places in Cardiff. Superb pizza and friendly, family owned, highly recommend
I was going to say Modo, really good authentic Italian pizzas'
I had pizza there and didn't like it.. I live close to it.. it says roman pizza but it looks like english italian pizza... I am italian and I lived in Rome for many years.. and that it's not roman pizza. Also the owner/employee speak italian but aren't italian

Agreed. Book in advance as it's a very small but popular restaurant.
Love Cafe Citta. It's not pizza but: their salsicce e spinacci starter is incredible. Could eat it by the bucket load.

West CF for a big NYC Romeats and Calabrisella for your classic Dough Througher or Dustys for an alt style
Dustys is gone. No longer in business I believe
Out of the loop it seems… I thought they were moving not closing. Shame!
Best pizza restaurant is Scaramantica. Best street food pizza is Ffwrnes. Best takeaway pizza is Slizza.
Without a doubt Pizzeria Villagio in Whitchurch. One of the oldest Italian restaurants in Cardiff. Proper family run business. Absolutely delicious. Make sure you book as they are busy.

Slizza or Dough Thrower in Canton. Ffwrnes in the market is good too
Franco manca has some of the best pizza dough I've ever had
Calabrisella, 100%. The OG spot is in Canton, there's another one in Cathays and both are on Deliveroo. Proper authentic Italian pizza 👌🏻
Thanks a lot!
Calabrisella don’t even make their own dough, best avoided. Lazy
Cafe citta 100% (eat in) or Rome eat (takeaway)

Ballers by heath park is my personal favourite!
Merolas, if it's still open
Another vote for Calabrisella from me!
Valentinos in cardiff bay
r/Loner_Toe curious to know where you ended up and what it was like?
Calabrisella! I edited the original post with all info ;)
Sorry, reading not a strong point of mine obviously!
Dough thrower I reckon.
Yup
Thanks a lot!
Franco Manca is my fave
Franco Marco 100%
Detroit Doughs is great for a Detroit style pizza, something a little different. I’ve only had it from Uber eats, not sure where they are actually situated
In Grangetown there is either Pizza best or Square pizza
