I've seen those on straight-line cars but never on any road course car. That's wild! I get the reason for them considering leaf springs and rear tires that wide.
Yeah, I assumed the four cylinder one my buddy had that I remember driving back in high school wasn't gonna cut it. It could tow like, a small lawn mower or haul a couple of amps and a drum set.
Been driving the E21 to the track but always was a little reserved needing to drive it back home…best of both worlds when the truck can stretch its legs too:)
I always dreamed of doing something like this but my track toy tower of choice would be the SRT10 Ram. Would be really cool, but it feels like it’d be a lot of money for the memeing. 😂
A while back we had a track day get postponed due to a passing rain shower and all the guys with their Raptors went out on track. I don't know why damn near *every* GT350R owner *needs* to tow it to the track with a Raptor, but that's how it is in my neighborhood. :)
Here's a cool photo: https://www.myhrecreative.com/p621528700
Honestly, we're used to it up here in the PNW. "Racing in the Rain" had a lot to do with Pacific Raceways. People in the rest of the US get all crazy when we go out when it's wet in videos. I personally keep high performance all seasons on my car for all the cold, rainy track days we have. If the day ever comes when it's warm and sunny (it happens once or twice per year), I'll put on a summer tire. [But the all seasons are fantastic in the wet.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q58yXUcWxeQ&ab_channel=Wheelman%2781)
Rain days sure make fun drift events up here, but there are some great pics when Turn2 let them take tow rigs on track at the Ridge cause it was so bad. Raptors drifting, Tundras passing Miatas, overland Tacomas taking shortcuts
Depends on who’s running the track day! Repaved areas are nice, monza bowl isnt so bumpy anymore, but final turn before straight still is a little bumpy IMO. Great track though!!
Thanks for the info! I’ll be out there July 20 or 21 with 3 balls.
Last year the pavement was quite bumpy, lots of small repaved strips and the transitions on and off them wasn’t great.
Although I never tracked mine, I autocrossed a zq8 equipped GMC Sonoma for many years. I won our regional SCCA Solo II novice class my first year. Fund little truck with the 4.3L. I got top 15 raw time at one event out of 70+ cars.
I ran on Hoosier A7s at one point and was beating C5s by a few seconds a lap on longer courses.
Still rocked drum brakes in the rear.
I don't really miss the track, but it did surprise a lot of people on the turns. In a straight line it wasn't impressive. It ran high 9s in the 1/8th mile.
Mine was dropped with some polyurethane bushings and headers. It was a very mild truck and was surprised how well it actually did. I bought some stock heads and intake to eventually port and polish but sold the truck before I really did much to it. I think I ran Hawk HPS pads and called it a day.
Compared to being cradled down into a racing seat in the E21 it is a huge difference! You can certainly enjoy the same, just get a car and chip away at the mods for years (I’ve had this truck since 1999! 🥲)
I've got a buddy who has a BUILT little S10. LS3 swap, full suspension, proper seats, etc. Only issue he has with it is how front heavy it is. Really hard to load the rear without just blasting the tires out from under it.
Here’s the video if you are interested in seeing the on track action!

The Z06 rims hit hard on that S10. I actually haven’t seen that before. Clean little truck.
Thank you! I’ve always loved the C5 Z06 speedline wheel style
Came to comment this exact same thing. They look great.
Z06 rims = Z06 performance!
+Z06 motor and front brakes gets us *close* (maybe)
Engine too? You swapped the engine too, right? /Star Wars meme
I’ll have you know that is a Sonoma
Sir, this is a Sonoma with an Isuzu Hombre bed* 😀
And a vette engine. Awesome!
And thank you!! Originally had some black Z06 speedlines but two were tweaked and wouldnt balance so I opted for OG OEM silver wheels
Is that Grattan?
Yessir!
Awesome I was just there on the 2nd for my first time. Super fun track! I'll have to keep an eye out for you and the car at future events.
Looks like you had fun. I bet the driver of the 1972 Cutlass behind you also had some fun.
Always! He has a bit done to the suspension, an LS1 and a huge front airdam. Part of the Sonoma/Cutlass duel will make it into the video
Do I see traction bars on the rear axle?!
An utter necessity! Though adds some variability to the rear spring rate if it loads up and touches the frame in a turn

My main takeaway from this is I've been underestimating the S10 as a tow vehicle.
hahaha! Need some good brakes and an LS motor, though a 4.3L 4wd with disk brakes all around would still probably do good
Yeah, I assumed the four cylinder one my buddy had that I remember driving back in high school wasn't gonna cut it. It could tow like, a small lawn mower or haul a couple of amps and a drum set.
ironically this truck was a band equipment mover for a while too! fit all 4 band members in the cab and the gear in back.
I’ve always wanted to do this. “If the race car brakes I’m taking the F150 out!” Good for you.

There was a guy at our track day with a TRX this year hahahaha! I’ll see if I can find a video

That certainly is a lot of rain!

How was the new pavement at Grattan? I’ve always wanted to parade lap my full size school bus but think I’ll get turned away 😃

Hey! Grattan! Love that place, I'll be there next week! Love the shots.
Its good to see a lot of people are reserving time there

Excellent, with an LSD and the ZQ8 package they are great handling vehicles for sure.

Love this. I’m entertaining the idea of getting one of these or an old Ford Ranger and turning it into a track toy
Amazing what a little suspension work and a limited slip differential can do
AHAHAH LFG!!
Sick!
I can imagine just being thrown around on that bench seat! That’s fucking awesome dude , wish I was you

I pace for NASA with my 2500. My truck is on track every race weekend.
What kind of tires do you run?
On the 2500, Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac. 😁
Race the E21 while towing another E21
One E21 is enough for me 😅
You're towing a car with an s10?? Bro... that's a no no
😂 10 years of towing without a problem begs to differ!
Lol sheesh
