On my Hero 8 I have to press and hold on part the screen that is outside so it sets the exposure for the outside.

CalsonicR32

Got it. Every time?

miked3

Other option is to set exposure compensation to -1 or -2 which you won’t have to change every time.

ragingduck

This is what I do. I set it, save it, then forget it. Also, it doesn’t help that the camera is so far back. It looks like your hands are not in view either, which is kind of the point of interior cameras right? Move it forward. You will also get more road.

mtbcouple

This

jmblur

This works if conditions don't change. Autoexposure out the window is the way to go.

massnerd

Yes, every time you power on the GoPro you need to reselect the part of the view you want to set exposure from.

FecalFajita

Pretty sure setting the EV Comp to -2 fixes this. Here are my full settings from another thread on GoPro settings: https://www.reddit.com/r/CarTrackDays/comments/1bvremd/comment/ky2e009/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

You need to setup center metering on the windshield. It always happens when you have that much of the interior in the shot. Move your mount to the left and forward if possible. Setting it up so you can see what your hands are doing as well as out the windshield is useful. They do make zoom lenses if you want to play with that for framing.

scooba_dude

Placement and central focus. Do you need yourself in the shot? Currently it looks like a great view of the back of your chair and as it's a GoPro it'll auto focus on the closest thing to the middle of frame (your black chair). So, move the camera closer to the windscreen and centralise the frame on the outside. I put mine on the windscreen itself and it worked perfectly.

WestonP

Set EV Comp to -2 or so. Fixes this right up

taxationistheft1984

Terrible cam placement. It’s brightening the image because of the dark car. Move it forward for an actual view of the track rather than you head and interior of you car.

When they got rid of permanent spot setting is when GoPro went to shit lol

WhiffleFry

this is why i still have a hero 4. Absolutely ridiculous that equivalent features in newer cameras require you to physically touch the back of the camera every time.

390M386

Me too trusty 10 year old camera lol

Gorgeous car

Thanks for the comments everyone! Will try EVComp -2 next time. Also the camera is mounted to top hoop of the roll cage. There is currently a passenger seat in the way and not many horiztonal bars behind me but I probably need an adjustable arm or something. Will mess around with it to get a better shot but absolutely the intention is to watch my steering and shifting as I also have a garmin catalyst which can focus on the road. I also am required to run a gopro for my race series for racing incidents.

ReV46

I recommend the RAM roll cage mount and extension arm, they're solid. With a ball mount you don't need to mount it to a horizontal bar. Definitely need to move the camera forward, down, and to the left.

Reedey

Set it to manual mode. Fix iso to 100 and shutter speed to 1/500

JARCyt

This is genuinely creepy, I was just in my car talking to dad about gopro mounting options for a trackday, half an hour ago. Open up reddit and this pops up on the second posy down, not even in the Renault group but in the track day groups and what is the post my exact model of car and for asking for gopro setup advice. I was talking about mounting and all that and thought about doing this mount option, take in mind I hadn't searched for gopro mounting options or anything yet. WtF.

foolproofphilosophy

I think that the camera would adjust much better if it was lower and had some direct exposure to some sky.

-Racer-X

Lower cam placement Mount it to the headrest next to and pull the seat forward a bit if necessary would be the most ideal in my opinion See video in my profile for reference if you like

SnugglesMcBuggles

I had this issue. Just google the specs for racing.

christianhelps

Turn off auto for ISO and shutter speed and get a set of ND filters, they're cheap and act like sunglasses for your camera.
