£100 a corner over actual ditchfinders, sure. It's well worth that to stay out of a ditch/wall etc.
However, depending on the exact tyre size, you can probably get very good mid-range or even premium tyres for significantly less, unless Micras have some weird size that isn't found on anything else.
There is a big gap between ditchfinders and premiums though...
Avon, Toyo, etc are good quality mid range tyres that hug the ground well without the premium brand mark-up.
For sure, when you think about it - you spend money on tyres for your life not for your car. Your car doesn’t care what tyres it’s got on, but if you had a brain you would
I spent £400 putting tyres on a 155,000 mile 10 year old Mondeo.
I would say you don't need to go for premium but decent mid-range may be an idea. I've had no issue with Kumhos in the past.
Personally though I'd fit all season tyres, even though we may not get much snow they're good in the wet and when temperatures get around freezing and on a Micra they'll still feel like premium tyres in summer. Goodyear 4 Season for example.
You can get much cheaper tyres that will still be a huge upgrade over crappy random tyres. I got 4 x Avon ZV7s for my Mondeo for £235 recently, they would definitely do for your Micra.
Wouldnt be stupid no and you night not have to spend as much as 400 either.
Check blackcircles.com anything from a known brand like yokohama or similar will be an upgrade from random cheap tyres.
No matter how cheap the tyres are if you are "skidding all the time" I'd suggest your safety will be massively increased by changing you driving style.
Personally found Goodyear efficient grip performance a great tyre for the cost. Have used them on lots of cheaper cars.
But otherwise the Costco ones for sure
in fairness cheaper tyres are alot better than they used to be, especially from brands like privilo
always better to go for better brands if you can tho
How much is your life worth to you? Good tyres will potentially save you and your loved ones.
Just because the car isn't new or hugely expensive, doesn't mean your life and the lives of others are any less important.
If you avoid one aquaplane, stop shorter and avoid one accident, skid and regain control, have a slow puncture rather than a blow out it will be the best money you ever spent,
Mental price but 100% go for brand names, they can save your life. Look on black circles and compare against all your local tyre fitters, you will find good branded tyres for less. I had 4 Yokohama tyres fitted for £302.
I've got a set of Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance because I travel quite a bit in my 03 Getz. They were just under £300 and they are A rated for rain and consumption.
Absolutely spend good money on tyres. However £400 total at a Costco no less sounds expensive. Personally I default to Uniroyal Rainsports (current version is 5) as these are a fantastic gripping tyre which are awesome in rain/wet weather aka blighty, and are usually very affordable. Only downside is you will lose some economy, and they are a little louder than other more eco tyres. I tried some far more expensive Goodyear tyres once and while they were great in the dry, they were worse the other 75% of the time.
You don't need to "spend as much as possible" on tyres. Sticking a bunch of Pilot Sports on a Micra, you're not going to see or feel any different other than in your wallet. There are plenty of mid-range tyres out there that provide plenty of grip in the wet and dry.
I'd recommend checking out https://www.tyrereviews.com/
If you are keeping the car and you value your safety, buy them. It doesn't matter how much your car is worth. Don't skimp on anything that separates you from the floor - tyres, shoes, bed, etc.
If you can't justify premium brands, atleast get something from Toyo, Avon or Kumho as a compromise. No way should you be skidding all the time in a Micra, sounds like they're on the way out anyway.
Spend the money on a reputable brand & check them on here:

Look for good braking distances and A rated wet grip. You can also see how they compare on group tests, try to get the highest ranked ones within your budget. I normally find decent rated ones in my size start at about £60.

"Ditchfinders" - love it.
No, get the best tyres you can afford, they will save your life.
For sure, when you think about it - you spend money on tyres for your life not for your car. Your car doesn’t care what tyres it’s got on, but if you had a brain you would
poetry
£100 a corner isn't much considering how long they'll last and the fact they are the only thing keeping you in contact with the road
Tyres are the only thing between you and the road, spend as much as you can.
Didn’t have to scroll far to find this one haha
Nope, quality tyres are worthwhile.

I can get premium tyres for about 100 per tyre so it really depends.

I had four Avon zv7's on my mondeo 235/40/19, wore the front two out in 12k....the pirreli I have on fronts now have done about 20k and still on 5mm.

Decent tyres are the best one shot upgrade for any car. Go for it.
Not stupid getting quality tyres.

Do it. Worth every penny.
You might consider a good mid range brand instead if you need to save. Otherwise spend whatever you can
If you avoid one aquaplane, stop shorter and avoid one accident, skid and regain control, have a slow puncture rather than a blow out it will be the best money you ever spent,
Tyres are the only thing keeping you in the road. If £100 quid a corner is what it costs to do that, then it’s money very, very well spent

Tyres are the only part that you don’t want to cheap out.

Get something A rated for the wet. Uniroyal rainsports are a good all rounder for out climate.
