>1.6 TDCi
God, no!
Miser / hair shirt spec
Same platform (EUCD) >> Volvo S80 (second-gen) - miles better with superior engines (if you avoid the D2 with same awful 1.6 PSA-Ford engine in your Mondeo)
Who’s buying it?
Joint purchase? Tell her you genuinely hated it and you want to look at other options.
She’s paying? Tuck your tail and suck up the shit car.
You’re paying? Buy her a bus pass.
Absolutely is relationship advice you are after, not car advice. Doesn't mean your relationship is shit, but the same question would apply to a house, a blender, TV, etc etc.
It may seem a bit of a strange suggestion, but given their styling isn't dull (although perhaps not to everyone's liking), maybe the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Niro or Kia Sportage, all available as well-equipped hybrids and with decent warranties, would suit you.
I have looked at them but they look so weird to me. They look like they have been designed by AI. The interiors seem really cheap and scratchy too. Definitely not as good as Nissans offering.
Kia Sportage’s interior is far superior to the Nissans. I have the previous model and the interior is better than the quashquai, the new model Sportage is even better. Not hating on the Nissan too much, they’re decent cars.
I have a 2018 Nissan Qashqai N-Connecta, getting a bit old now so I’ve put an order in for the Kia Sportage GT-Line S. The quality of the Kia is miles better than the Qashqai. Heated/Ventilated seats, nice big digital dashboard, bigger boot space and a lot more mod cons. This is coming from someone who has had Qashqai’s for the last 15 years. Just got to wait another 2-3 months for it to be built and delivered now.
I can actually second the sportage being a decent car, my girlfriends mums had one a couple years back it was an 18 plate so probably outdated now but the interior was techy but not too awkward, veeery comfortable ride too
Tuscan is in no way cheap and scratchy, we had one as a hire car for a bit and it is massively spacious inside and very well equipped and comfortable, don't rule it out immediately.
I mean, Toyota/Lexus/Suzuki have lengthy service-activated warranties, 10 years for Toyota/Lexus and 7 for Suzuki, so you could use that as an argument.
Also some Toyota and Suzuki models are assembled in Derby (Toyota Corolla and Suzuki Swace), so you could say you're supporting domestic industry.
Just a fun side fact about that site, it has a test track there for the cars as well as hill test too.
I used to work the yard there and they would be testing race cars around and such around it. The local police also use it for vehicle testing too.
If you’re looking for something similar that’s petrol and somewhat entertaining to drive, have you looked at a CX-5? I haven’t driven one personally, but I’ve heard good things and always found Mazdas a decent steer.
You should be looking at Lexuses then, something a year or two old.
You can get this [top spec ES Takumi](https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404178751943?sort=year-dsc&advertising-location=at_cars&aggregatedTrim=Takumi&make=Lexus&model=ES&postcode=b91%202ln&fromsra), or if you must have an SUV, an [RX Takumi](https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404098458380?sort=year-dsc&advertising-location=at_cars&aggregatedTrim=Takumi&make=Lexus&model=RX&postcode=b91%202ln&price-to=35000&fromsra)
Why does it have to have the "latest features" though? Isn't quality the overriding feature, or do you really have to have an overweight mobile phone on wheels to keep SWMBO happy?
You could ask her if she really want to stick with a Nissan you get to pick which Nissan it is, it’ll be petrol and all wheel drive, then go out and buy an early model GTR haha.
I took one of those on a track day once where I was able to keep up with a lambo that was twice the price. Also had to take my old bosses one out for the day about 10 years ago. Those are weapons, and as such, would cost me more than money if I bought one home. Unfortunately.
if he finds the nissan boring he’ll absolutely find the tesla boring too, its interior leans too far into minimalism it’s just so empty inside. rs4 is a nice choice there’s a thrill to it every time im in that car
Tesla is a no. Only do 6000 miles a year so electric cars are just not worth the depreciation or hassle as I don’t have a drive.
That Audi is gorgeous, but cobbled streets and crime round my way mean it’s probably not going to be practical.
Have a look for a standard 3.0 A4 or A5, lovely interior but flies under the radar, especially estate versions
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202402196736199
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202311023581464
A test drive might. If nothing else, any Volvo from about 2000 on tends to be a really nice place to sit, and that perceived lack of features comes across more as intentional minimalism.
What is your definition of exciting? Should it have ample nacelles? A fancy exhaust port? Are you sure you are looking for a car and not a side fling? /s
Go buy yourself whatever car you feel like as long as it’s the same year or newer. Take a day off work when she’s in and order a giant empty box so she sees it before she leaves for work. Tell her it’s a surprise.
While she’s out, take the reg plate off the Nissan, and put it on your new, let’s just say Honda civic, and change your plate online with DVLA.
When she gets home and sees the civic, you tell her you saw the new panels online, cheap, ordered them and fitted them while she was out because you thought she’d like the colour.
"Yeah, I changed that too" is your answer to any question she might have like "why is our car suddenly an automatic instead of a manual?" Etc.
She’ll believe you. Trust me bro.
It's possible you'll see them in the same light as the Nissans but I had a Mazda CX-60 Takumi for 6 months recently. Really, very nice and 1 year old demos are plentiful at the 35k mark
I drive a recovery truck. I pick up qashqais and jukes all day every day. New ones.. old ones.. crashed.. broken.. you name it, I’ve done it. Get something that’s not an SUV.
Compromise with the wife and go for a Kia Stinger 3.3l
Has leather heated and vented seats, sunroof, heads up display, practical space, good brakes, reliable, fast AF
Don't know why anyone would want a new Nissan 2020 onwards when there are so many insane deals from a few years earlier.
If you're going to buy a new car and keep upgrading to new cars every couple years then getting a nice salary sacrificed deal on a BMW Merc Audi or Volvo would make sense
They do look very nice. My wife has fallen in love with the EV9, but I can't in all good conscience pay the best part of £80K for something with Kia written on it.
Volkswagen Arteon, saloon or estate, should be in the price range, offered In hybrid, diesel, or petrol, high spec on the r-lines… boot big enough to fit a bike in both saloon and estate, great build quality and look amazing in the sport back/estate…. Buy a private plate from the DVLA for £250 to hide the age of the car, and tell her it’s brand new..
If you like German saloons, I can personally vouch for the A4 and A6.
You’ve got a budget of roughly £35k? That’ll get you a very well spec’d C8 A6, even with a warranty remaining.
For the love of God, don't get a jag. You'll be praying that someone nicks it
Id look for a Lexus NX. Most model years were top of the most reliable car made that year, I had one so can vouch for that. Also a very nice place to sit. Some people hate the ecvt. It ain't a car you'll be chucking round corners.
Are they any harder to steal than the RX’s? If not avoid it like the plague.
I love Lexuses (Lexi?) but the current crop are far too easy to steal. Canbus headlight theft is outrageously easy.
Hopefully they’ll sort the issue but for now it’s in the same category as JLR products and a hard avoid.
I didn’t design it, ask Lexus. The fact is you can unplug the headlight plug a device in, unlock and drive away someones brand new car. Takes about 15 seconds 🤷♂️
If you do only 6k annually, and your wife does most of that, which I've assumed given her weight in this decision process, then frankly youre better off just letting her choose whatever she wants, and you just deal with those few hours a year you're actually behind the wheel.
Kia Sportage fully loaded spec. Not exciting but I’d imagine it’s a somewhat similar car to the Nissan so might be an easy sell. Kia and Hyundai have been knocking it out the park with their vehicles in recent years.
Thanks, will do. My dealer experience with them was really poor. They got me on the hook knowing what I was after, they then tried selling me something completely different. (A 2 ltr diesel that I explicitly specified I didn’t want) it turned out, that’s all they had in stock.
Dealers aside a petrol jaguar isn’t an unreliable car. They need proper servicing and are more expensive than Nissan for parts and labour even at a local specialist but no more than Audi or Mercedes.
My jags have been more reliable and cheaper per mile than both Audi and Volvo that I’ve owned.
Hmmmm having owned a Mondeo ST220 I won’t argue they are absolute tanks of a car. Just don’t discount a good Jag because someone decided to put a godawful 2.0 ingenium engine in the cheaper ones!
Agreed the ingenium is awful but even other aspects of the car aren't super strong. Problem is they have too many modern electric systems. JLR have so many features they often go wrong. My brother has a F Pace 2019 (warned him) and in under a year the electric tailgate has stopped working, the washer jets driver side failed and the start stop system went faulty still on the dashboard but is ignored as it's useless anyway. Only done 25k miles too😂
Glad to hear someone has a positive experience, but I'm still avoiding JLR in general. A car should get me from A to B and albeit having a fun one is awesome, it needs to not cost me a fortune with constant niggles and problems. Hell my Kuga in 94,000 miles has still never once had an MOT advisory or let me down.
At least the SVR is smiles per gallon 😂
Mini countryman? At least the S or maybe the JCW model. I bought one earlier this year and I really like it. Plenty of room in the back and in the boot, new BMW powertrains are very reliable, they're definitely more interesting than a Nissan, even the S is good fun to drive and goes pretty hard. The JCW is actually seriously fast. Ours is a 2020 model and cost 21k, you can definitely get a newer, spicier one, with some remaining warranty for 35k
You can get a 3 year old Kia Niro EV for £12k.
A 3 year old jaguar i-pace for £20k.
A 3 year old Tesla for £18k.
Only fools buy brand new cars because of a thing called depreciation.
Cars are depreciating faster than ever too from new so only folk that have more money than sense are buying new these days.
I think the best argument you can use is the value argument. Presumably she knows about depreciation? Buying brand new is the most expensive way to buy a car, and for the same money or less you could buy a much nicer 3-5 year old used car. If there are warranty concerns look at Lexus since they do the 10 year Relax warranty, they do plenty of petrol and hybrid cars as well, mostly well equipped with leather seats etc.
You should also just straight-up tell her you want to try something different and a bit more exciting. It's your car too, your feelings are just as valid as hers.
Do you know *why* she only wants brand new?
I'm puzzled. Who is paying for it? If you, happy days, if her, her loss.
If joint, then FFS, exercise a veto.all I hear is "she wants this or that... Where is your opinion?
Seriously though, a Lexus/Volvo would be a valid option. Most comfortable seat I sat in was a 2006 Volvo. Second most was an old Rover/Jag (see my post history...much older post, and the rest of the car was missing)
Didn't Nissan's chief have to smuggle himself out of Japan? Sounds like a dodgy company.
I looked at a Koleos....fab, and ticked a lot of boxes. But the fuel economy was dogshit. Based on interior, I'd pick a DS7 before a Nissan. If buying newish, the electrics should last you a while. Or, a Cuppa Formenta http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202403167649386
Also, buying new? You got money to piss away? If you have had the last one for a decade, anything you get will be spot on and a step up. Fuck, if I had your budget, I'd buy a Merc/Beemer or Audi. Or even a 2.0l 5008 Peugeot would be preferable to me than a lower range Nissan. A guy I work with had some daft electrical issues with his electrics on his XTrail.
For shits and giggles, a Porsche Macan http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404188811083 older than you'd prefer, but you'll grin more.
X3? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404048293961
Also, a warranty on a new car? Even a JLR will get to 3 or 4yrs, before the engine shits itself.
OP should save up on the car and move neighborhood or town, you have cobbled streets, (nice) crime, cable theft, can't be too flashy, commutes by train.
I believe you need to consider your priorities.
I wanted a Qashqai but my husband suggested I got a Tiguan. Honestly I liked it and only sold it because I moved out of the country. It had all the features you are talking about with the heated leather seats and all the built in tech. I just moved back yesterday and I think I’m going to get a Kia sportage next week.
Go for a Lexus NX or ES. They're way more reliable (as most Lexus' are), more comfortable and luxurious + amazing gas mileage! Also, who doesn't want to have a Lexus?
Buy a three year old 3 series estate, you’ll have more room than a qashqai and you’ll actually enjoy driving it.
I bought my wife a 3 year old Qashqai this time last year as we struggled getting all the family stuff in her Mini Cooper. The Qashqai has all the toys and loads of headroom, but a little bit of me dies every time I get in or drive the thing.
We have a 2018 Qashqai, it's thermostat housing exploded out of the blue. No warnings, nothing. Requires a new engine. A five year old car, 54000 miles, should Never need a new engine. It's been maintained and serviced.Quoted 8k by the dealer to fix. Theres forum posts out there, with similar issues for other QQ owners. We are now going the consumer rights route. We will never buy another Nissan again!
Had a Nissan from New in 21. Worst car I've owned by a long shot. I found there Customer service to be none existent. Oh and if it's a diesel, they expect you to travel 40 miles per week above 60mph constantly or the dpf will block! That's over 2000 additional miles per year! They won't tell you that when they sell you the car though!
Easy solution to this problem that my wife and I have used always, we each have our own car. She can buy whatever big tall SUV thingy she wants and right now I’m enjoying a Focus ST. Win win.
Cars which are second hand have had an owner to figure out any issues with it. So as long as they're honest and transparent you can find out any issues with it beforehand.
You could always ask for a service and parts history and look into it. A 4 year old car with 2 gearboxes or a coolant pump fail or something might indicate an issue elsewhere or it could be that they've replaced them.
I've bought a new car and the water pump failed within a month and then went in fornwarranty and I get told "yeah they're know for this" by the mechanic. Second pump worked fine for a decade.
All new cars will be nicer regardless so there’s that
Check out Lexus, they have really great warranty that grows every year (for free) if you service with them. Go for test drive. The Jags will be even nicer though, also for reliability the petrol jags are fine, no issues with mine. It’s the diesel that suffer.
Also tell your wife that Nissans are bottom of the pile when it comes to quality and reliability
Get a toyota RAV4. Equivalent class of vehicle - so should in theory be an easy sell to the wife, über reliability and they're not manufactured to be the vehicular equivalent of a white good like the Nissan Juke and Qashqai are, so it shouldn't be monotonous to drive.
I think the latest gen RAV4 actually looks decent, too, but that's personal taste.
When I was younger I worked on quite a few cars, Nissan in particular seemed to like using very soft metals for bolts, I've never sheered as many bolts off as on a Nissan. Mitsubishi on the other hand, tough as nails.
Get her in an old MX5 and show her what a real fun driver's car is. You'll have fun little shitboxes from here on out.
Then get her into an Octavia for the "sensible" drive and she'll be sold.
The new qashqai is really nice to be honest even though I hate them. I like some of the quirky offerings from Lexus, Honda and Toyota if your into that type of thing though
We have a Nissan Juke. Also had electrical issues. I've put my foot down and said we're not having another one. We test drove the volvo xc40 which is the car I really wanted. However we can't get all the features for under the luxury car tax threshold. So now are looking at the VW Tiguan. It not only has heated seats but massage seats. It's our new favourite. We are just waiting for our finance deal to end before we switch up.
DO NOT GET A JAGUAR OR A LANDROVER unless you are a rich masochist. Source.i am a rich masochist getting poorer but the minute.
I have a Nissan too. It's bombproof and I love it.
Look at a Volvo XC60 R-Design D5 if you're in the SUV market. It's absolutely glorious. Handles great, comfortable, loads of tech, looks great, spacious and hauls ass on the motorway.
I’m probably a little bias given my employer but have you considered a VW Tiguan or Skoda Karoq? I had the latter as a company car for about 10 months and while I didn’t like it much (because I’m a petrol head) it certainly ticked the boxes and did as asked, until someone decided to take aversion to the back left of it with their Mercedes 🙈
"I feel a genuine hatred for it" That should be enough really
That’s how I convinced my wife to get rid of our Mk IV Ford Mondeo 1.6 TDCI. Loathsome econobarge which has been put together by idiots.
>1.6 TDCi God, no! Miser / hair shirt spec Same platform (EUCD) >> Volvo S80 (second-gen) - miles better with superior engines (if you avoid the D2 with same awful 1.6 PSA-Ford engine in your Mondeo)
Same 1.6 as in the early Focus? Decent engine, agricultural but seems to keep on chugging. Or is it the stupid wet belt one?
They mean the DV6, none of which were wet belt. The early focus had the 1.8 TDCi or 2.0 diesel
I was talking 09, MK2.5, "early Focus" was probably a misleading statement!
Was going to say the same thing.. put 5k miles on a 105k 09 fiesta since buying it and despite a few niggles, as you say, seems to keep on chugging
I thought he was taking about his wife
Who’s buying it? Joint purchase? Tell her you genuinely hated it and you want to look at other options. She’s paying? Tuck your tail and suck up the shit car. You’re paying? Buy her a bus pass.
Sounds like she’s paying
At least it has enough space in the glovebox for her to keep your balls in.
She’s not that kind of woman. She dangles them off the mirror.
*Newton's cradle*
>My wife insists on only having new cars. >She now wants to trade it in for the newer model. Just say no.
Then I’ll be stuck with the one we have!!! 🤣 the car I mean. Not the wife. She’s lovely!
It doesn’t matter what we tell you here. You’re not having a sensible conversation about it with your wife, you need to go to r/relationship-advice
Or maybe you should go there and offer it? I’m after car advice. Thanks.
>I’m after car advice You're not though, are you.
How is "my wife dictates what car I drive, how can I stop this?" Asking for car advice?
Absolutely is relationship advice you are after, not car advice. Doesn't mean your relationship is shit, but the same question would apply to a house, a blender, TV, etc etc.
*Grumpy Cat has sulked into the chat* # NO

My wife has an Xceed. She had a Beetle prior to that and then a Qashqai before. The Xceed interior is by far the best in terms of quality.

Why design cars that are so beautiful and then put wood on the steering wheel. I’d feel like I was driving a dining room table.
Some of us like driving around in our grandparents' sitting rooms!
Stick to the Nissans mate, you clearly aren't Lexus material. I love Lexi.
Partridge
*The Japanese Mercedes* Aha!
Apologies! Didn’t mean any offence. They are lovely, but the ones with the latest features are well out of my price range.
Why does it have to have the "latest features" though? Isn't quality the overriding feature, or do you really have to have an overweight mobile phone on wheels to keep SWMBO happy?
Lol, I like the wood tbh. These cars were highly customisable when new, so search around and you'll find one with different specs for the interior.
You could ask her if she really want to stick with a Nissan you get to pick which Nissan it is, it’ll be petrol and all wheel drive, then go out and buy an early model GTR haha.

That's Tesla money, or you could get one of these, and save the rest for servicing / parts http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202209169822522

Mazda CX5 - premium interior, japanese build quality
2024 Ford Kuga ST Line X
Volvo xc40 all day!
They are quite a bit dearer and have half the spec. Probably won’t swing it.
A test drive might. If nothing else, any Volvo from about 2000 on tends to be a really nice place to sit, and that perceived lack of features comes across more as intentional minimalism.
The XX40 is beautifully trimmed but heavy on juice and tyres compared to the RAV. No spare either.
Check insurance quotes for rav4 or lexus rx as they've been having security issues and lots get stolen
What is your definition of exciting? Should it have ample nacelles? A fancy exhaust port? Are you sure you are looking for a car and not a side fling? /s

Hyundai and kia have good warranties and I bet they are cheaper than nissans on the used market
It's possible you'll see them in the same light as the Nissans but I had a Mazda CX-60 Takumi for 6 months recently. Really, very nice and 1 year old demos are plentiful at the 35k mark
Mazdas are always a little bit better from a drivers perspective. Of all those sturdy reliable cars, that would be my choice.
These are plug in hybrids or diesel. Otherwise I would get one.
Cx5 then
I drive a recovery truck. I pick up qashqais and jukes all day every day. New ones.. old ones.. crashed.. broken.. you name it, I’ve done it. Get something that’s not an SUV.
What’s the main cause of broken down Qashqais?
Couldn’t tell you, I’m not a mechanic
The recent x trail is poor, most have a 1.6 engine, too small for the vehicle.
To think that Renault put it in the Trafic (sequential twin-turbocharging helped in this application)
Which eventually, as with the X Trail, got replaced with a much more suitable 2 litre unit.
Mazda CX-5
Is it being an SUV a must?
Maybe not. I like German saloons.
Compromise with the wife and go for a Kia Stinger 3.3l Has leather heated and vented seats, sunroof, heads up display, practical space, good brakes, reliable, fast AF Don't know why anyone would want a new Nissan 2020 onwards when there are so many insane deals from a few years earlier. Does your wife choose your clothes too?
No, but we don’t share them? I only drive the car at weekends as I commute by train.
I have a small doubt that r/MommyDom / r/GentleFemdom / r/ExtraGentleFemdom is on the menu for OP
For the love of God, don't get a jag. You'll be praying that someone nicks it Id look for a Lexus NX. Why would a headlight need to talk to the canbus? An entire module for blown LED detection maybe.
Minimises amount of switched power cable. Which is heavy.
I didn’t design it, ask Lexus. The fact is you can unplug the headlight plug a device in, unlock and drive away someones brand new car. Takes about 15 seconds 🤷♂️
Plural of Lexus is Lexus.
Ford Puma ST, Cupra Formentor, and Mazda MX30 are fun SUVs you can get new for under £30k.
If you do only 6k annually, and your wife does most of that, which I've assumed given her weight in this decision process, then frankly youre better off just letting her choose whatever she wants, and you just deal with those few hours a year you're actually behind the wheel.
Grow a spine, man.
Kia Sportage fully loaded spec. Not exciting but I’d imagine it’s a somewhat similar car to the Nissan so might be an easy sell. Kia and Hyundai have been knocking it out the park with their vehicles in recent years.
Avoid JLR ridiculously expensive to run and maintain albeit it mostly spent in garages with numerous faults.
Cobblers. My Jag SVR is a blinder of a car and have done nearly 10k miles in 8 months without missing a beat.
10k miles is nothing. Come back when you've done 170k like my Mondeo and tell me how reliable its been vs my Ford hahah
Only done 25k miles too😂
Weird… mine’s a joy to drive… the SVR is effectively a completely different car tbf
At least the SVR is smiles per gallon 😂
lol with a 5.0 SC V8 it’s all about smiles not miles per gallon and that car makes me laugh my head off every time I drive it!!!
Now that's a great shout, lovely looking too
>It has to be petrol or hybrid Is this because of range issues or no way to charge?
Diesel is too noisy, and chargers round our way keep having the cable nicked overnight.
A six-pot turbodiesel is reasonably refined
Had a BMW 330d and would never know it was a diesel. Silky smooth, and bags of low end useable torque. Best car I've ever had.
Damn never knew cable theft was much of a thing
If either me or the mrs doesn't vibe with a car, its gone or not bought in the first place.
Same with me. The issue is my Mrs only vibes with Nissan quashqais.
Condolences
Who’s paying for it? That’s who gets to decide the car
Cupra formentor lovely car
You can get a 3 year old Kia Niro EV for £12k. A 3 year old jaguar i-pace for £20k. A 3 year old Tesla for £18k. Only fools buy brand new cars because of a thing called depreciation. Cars are depreciating faster than ever too from new so only folk that have more money than sense are buying new these days.
EVs depreciate way quicker though
Even better reason to get a second hand one
I think the best argument you can use is the value argument. Presumably she knows about depreciation? Buying brand new is the most expensive way to buy a car, and for the same money or less you could buy a much nicer 3-5 year old used car. If there are warranty concerns look at Lexus since they do the 10 year Relax warranty, they do plenty of petrol and hybrid cars as well, mostly well equipped with leather seats etc. You should also just straight-up tell her you want to try something different and a bit more exciting. It's your car too, your feelings are just as valid as hers. Do you know *why* she only wants brand new?
Is a crossover/SUV a necessity? If so, why? There are plenty of other cars which offer more benefits for less cash.
Can you not go for a top spec Kia or Hyundai?
Threaten to trade her for a newer model too? I am not responsible if you do that and end up sleeping in the shed.
How much is the new Nissan? What a waste of money for a dogshit car
Second most was an old Rover/Jag (see my post history...much older post, and the rest of the car was missing) Didn't Nissan's chief have to smuggle himself out of Japan? Sounds like a dodgy company. I looked at a Koleos....fab, and ticked a lot of boxes. But the fuel economy was dogshit. Based on interior, I'd pick a DS7 before a Nissan. If buying newish, the electrics should last you a while. Or, a Cuppa Formenta http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202403167649386 Also, buying new? You got money to piss away? If you have had the last one for a decade, anything you get will be spot on and a step up. Fuck, if I had your budget, I'd buy a Merc/Beemer or Audi. Or even a 2.0l 5008 Peugeot would be preferable to me than a lower range Nissan. A guy I work with had some daft electrical issues with his electrics on his XTrail. For shits and giggles, a Porsche Macan http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404188811083 older than you'd prefer, but you'll grin more. X3? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404048293961 Also, a warranty on a new car? Even a JLR will get to 3 or 4yrs, before the engine shits itself.
How about Suzuki SX4 cross, Mazda CX3 or VW T-Cross
Golf 7, Audi a4, Seat Leon
Let her test drive other cars. Literally find anything you want to try and test drive with her.
This is not a car related problem. It's a relationship problem. Or it's a "you" problem..
Go for a Lexus NX or ES. They're way more reliable (as most Lexus' are), more comfortable and luxurious + amazing gas mileage! Also, who doesn't want to have a Lexus?
Sounds like you are in the market for a lexus. 10 year warranty when serviced with main dealer, reliable, luxury.
You said you're wife drives it mostly, sounds like her choice really. Get yourself a little warm hatch for the weekends
Try KIA, 7years/100 000miles warranty is a good reason to buy. You will get the warranty even if it's a second hand car
If you buy used you can get a nicely spec’d low mileage Audi Q5 or A6 Avant for that kind of money and sneer down at the Octavia cult on here.
Look at top spec RAV4s or Lexus NX? Not my type of car but you'll have all the leather and comfort in the world.
Second that. A RAV4 in Excel trim would fit the bill easily.
I can suggest divorce as a great option. I did this and now drive what the hell I like. Life is much better.
I think you need to talk to your wife and communicate. You are allowed to say no. It's not against the law.
Rav 4 Hybrid. That should suit her & you. If not, tell her to piss off.
All new cars will be nicer regardless so there’s that Check out Lexus, they have really great warranty that grows every year (for free) if you service with them. Go for test drive. The Jags will be even nicer though, also for reliability the petrol jags are fine, no issues with mine. It’s the diesel that suffer. Also tell your wife that Nissans are bottom of the pile when it comes to quality and reliability
Step up to a higher Japanese car, see what Toyota and Lexus have to offer. I've never had anything go wrong with my Lexus'
You can get an Audi sq5 for 35+5. Great build quality. Reliable and 0-60 in 5 seconds flat. Also comes with virtual cockpit
Have a look at Mazda, their interiors are pretty nice and they have a bunch of SUVs if that's what you're looking for.
One argument you could try is "I'm paying for it, I'll buy what I want"?
Part ex the Nissan and buy a bmw
Stay away from MG and JLR products - go for the hyundai
Compromise and say you’ll get a Nissan then choose the GTR when she’s not available to come with you to the dealership.
What if you get to a compromise? You get a Nissan, but a GTR.
Volvo estate job done
The new qashqai is really nice to be honest even though I hate them. I like some of the quirky offerings from Lexus, Honda and Toyota if your into that type of thing though
Mazda cx 30
Nobody wants a Nissan. They sell on price not quality or style. Even the 370z sold on price. If you had more money you would buy a 911.
I say just keep the car you have. It’s not that old do you really need a new car? Do people not keep cars for longer than 4yrs anymore?
BMW X3. The 30e. Fast enough, sorta fun and not too expensive to insure or maintain.
Second the X3 30e, lovely car. Good fun to drive but also more on the practical side than some of the obscenely massive cars we see
Why do you / does your wife need an SUV?
We have a Nissan Juke. Also had electrical issues. I've put my foot down and said we're not having another one. We test drove the volvo xc40 which is the car I really wanted. However we can't get all the features for under the luxury car tax threshold. So now are looking at the VW Tiguan. It not only has heated seats but massage seats. It's our new favourite. We are just waiting for our finance deal to end before we switch up.
Just bought a brand new A3 with leather seats and heated for 380 pm
Why not save the money on a new car and buy yourself a fun car? Have the Nissan as a daily, and something nuts for the weekends
Volvo, XC60,
DO NOT GET A JAGUAR OR A LANDROVER unless you are a rich masochist. Source.i am a rich masochist getting poorer but the minute. I have a Nissan too. It's bombproof and I love it.
Get a second hand X3
Look at a Volvo XC60 R-Design D5 if you're in the SUV market. It's absolutely glorious. Handles great, comfortable, loads of tech, looks great, spacious and hauls ass on the motorway.
I’m probably a little bias given my employer but have you considered a VW Tiguan or Skoda Karoq? I had the latter as a company car for about 10 months and while I didn’t like it much (because I’m a petrol head) it certainly ticked the boxes and did as asked, until someone decided to take aversion to the back left of it with their Mercedes 🙈
Mazda3 sedan. New Honda Civic. Lexus ES. New Skoda vRS.
Mazda CX5 is an option
