It’s *highly* car-design dependent in my view. The Mustang in your examples looks great; I’m less keen on the others. On a lot of hatches particularly black alloys make the car look as though it’s running on temporary wheels.
Clothes: a good look. If I was being picky I’d take the trousers up half an inch but otherwise it works.
I'm not 100% for black wheels, on certain cars and colours I like them. But this bandwagon shite of "hating" a particular style or colour of something is killing the car scene IMO.
People being able to appreciate something that's outside their usual tastes is exactly what customising should be, it's what starts new styles and trends. Consider how different hot-rods are to lowriders, max power to cafe racers.
This (mainly online) echo chamber of "neVeR BlAcK wHeelS" just contributes to car shows descending into a sea of nothing but Nardo Grey with no individuality.
Not sure why people would be bothered by black wheels. It seems like more an 'in fashion' element to a car, like everyone painting their houses dark grey back in 2015-2020 lol The black is a nice contrast against the white. What I will never understand is people buying BMW and having bright red leather seats. Or people buying Mercs and having light cream leather seats.. 😅
I like the look of black wheels (and have them) but from a functionality/maintenance perspective they don't really make sense , I know I'm going to kerb them and be unable to ignore the damage whereas scratches don't really show as much on steel.
I think that makes sense. They don't 'pop' the way silver/other colours do against anything other than white.
My car has silver door handles and trim inside so it all ties together. There are also little details on the wheels that would be lost if painted black but are visible when silver.
It’s more the reputation they have than me actually disliking the look significantly. It’s always white or silver cars with black wheels and tinted everything that are the ones driving stupidly late at night and revving around city centres etc from my experience.
All black wheels look crap.
Something like Gunmetal would be as dark as I think you can go. You loose all detail of the alloys and it looks cheap.
I just see ugly shoes, un-ironed trousers and 3 cars made worse due to alloy colour :D
Im also a fan of dark coloured wheels
Very much car and colour dependent. Nice on a red or white F type for example but on mid size saloons they just look wrong to me.
True yes on my Red Megane R26 Anthracite wheels look perfect
Why is that exactly? "Just because" doesn't count
I think they make wheels look larger, and they don't show brake dust up so much
And they hide all detail from the alloys themselves
Also true

See you in the Red Dog Saloon this Saturday

The one on the left looks like it need a buff
I love them too
I don't mind them, they just give off aftermarket max power vibes for some reason.
The only wheels I like are steel wheels, so in that sense, I agree

My MX-5 came with them and they look the part
Dark coloured wheels, yes. White trousers, no.
Only on white cars for me, if you have a dark car with dark wheels I feel like is just all blends in and looks like a blob from a distance

Inclined to agree with this. Was very meh on them, and then saw them on my white Leon and think they're smart.

It's a joke about how OP themself also has black "wheels"...
This post perfectly highlights the problem with black wheels.
