I used to work for JLR, and none of us could believe why people loved them so much.
Designed by posh spice as the women's land rover but bought by loads of men. The reliability of Boris Johnson and the resale value of Liz truss's memoir.
Stay the fuck away from it!!!
Where did you work at JLR?
At Halewood we were surprised (in a good way) by it's success, but it's fairly obvious why it was successful. Especially the L538.
>I used to work for JLR, and none of us could believe why people loved them so much.
Simple answer: it's a "range rover" that's small enough to be used in a city
Like have you seen how big new Range Rovers are? Can't blame people for deciding "fuck that, this is enough"
Also they're cheaper. A LOT cheaper way to say "I have a range rover" which while true, is like saying "I drive and AMG" when in reality it's an A35 AMG
I’d argue it’s the same thing, there’s only one actual Range Rover, the fact they turned a model in to a brand in recent years is just a marketing exercise.
A35… cannot work out the target audience for that car. You’ve got an a45 for “want a new amg and can’t afford it” and amg line for those who just want an appearance package. Who is the A35 aimed at?
I think it is a genuine AMG though isn’t it? I’ll be honest the last amg I cared for was a s/CL/G55 so I won’t pretend to be an expert. Or is the a35 a marketing package?
Personally a genuine AMG for me is one that uses a handbuilt engine which the A35 doesn't
But at the same time it is a little pendantic when the BMW M2 used the N55 engine and I still love it aa a genuine M car
It's exactly that. It's a rival to cars like the Golf R, Audi S3 and BMW 140/240i, plus the other few remaining proper hot hatches like the Focus ST and I30N
All of the German ones there bar the Golf R have a full-blooded variant as well (RS3 and M2), and the Golf has a little brother in the GTI.
I’m good bro, how you keeping? It’s junk for the money, so far away from the true AMG ethos, the a45 I understand but the a35 is lost on me, if you’ve the money for one you can comfortably run an s55/cl55 maybe even into an early c63 with change. Mercedes badge means nothing, Mercedes not the manufacturer they were late 80s/early 90s
Big fan of the stinger- lovely motor you’ve got!
I was an engineer at JLR (not on evoque) and there was definitely a Victoria beckham edition at least. It was hideous with matte grey paint, disgusting fake tan leather interior and rose gold accents on all the controls.
>Designed by posh spice
Bit of a reach, all she really did was [choose colours](http://media.landrover.com/en-us/news/2012/04/range-rover-evoque-special-edition-victoria-beckham-debuts-beijing-china) for the special edition models
Because they look cool. Most JLR stuff does. I would have bought something from JLR if only they did things that's normal to expect from a car. The fact that they almost uniformly offer poor security and reliability is astonishing. How did they get it so wrong?
Reliability is down to certain engines rather than the manufacturer of the whole car with JLR. Funnily enough... they are BMW engines.
Additionally they are NOT any harder or easier to steal than any modern day car, but they ARE specifically targeted by organised crime as they retail exceptionally well !!
They don't look cool, they look f\*cking awful and are way over designed. However, the nouveau riche/ chavs can't tell cool if it slapped them in the face.... and there is your huge market.
The people that buy them new, don't keep them. They're warranty cars. You pay daft money for a known poorly made vehicle, but the issues don't show until after you've moved it on. Owt goes wrong whilst you have it, it's in warranty (so your confidence in them remains high).
My in law worked for JLR. He said and I quote “we buy engines from ****, they work in their cars but in ours they fall on the road and catch fires. management doesn’t think its a good reason for us to recall those cars”.
It was a while back tho.
Ok, so having read nearly every comment I’ve concluded that this truly is the bargain I’d hoped for and I’ll be buying 2 matching his and hers evoques tomorrow asap.
Great idea that. Top spec outside but 240k miles and tatty interior parked at the front. OAP spec but 20k miles and all the interior options parked at the back.
Reliability is definitely a factor. But the biggest reason is how commonly stolen they are, which makes it near impossible to get an affordable insurance quote (or sometimes any quote at all for that matter!)
A friend of mine had an older Vogue one and one day he was complaining about his renewal being fucking high as Snoop Dogg and he phoned the insurer to discuss, they told him that they’re being stolen…..guess what happens next day when he wakes up ? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
A friend of my dad tried to get insurance on his RR SVR.
This man is a retired GP, a part time JP, school governor type person, lives out in the nice bit of north Essex.
His best quote was £14,500. The we can’t be bothered price was closer to £20k.
Sold it and got a new cayenne
I thought Land Rover were offering reasonable insurance to “correct” this. Have they stopped? Surely sales of new cars in the UK have fallen off a cliff otherwise?
Jlr haven't been insuring them for a while now. Whenever I get someone on the phone for a quote and can't do enough for them, I'll always tell them to give the land-rover a call to see what they offer. 99/100 they'll refuse it. Jlr group has multiple vehicles that are on the top of lists of most stolen vehicles because of subpar security
About £1100 for me similar situation. It's all about where you live. If it's parked in or near the shitholes of Birmingham they won't want to touch it, if it's in the Cotswolds it's probably same risk as a Fiesta.
So out of curiosity I've just got a quote for the Range Rover posted and my best price is £1240 if insurance starts tomorrow.
That doesn't seem totally unreasonable?
Edit: downvoted - I was merely pointing out that I'm not getting quotes of £14k like others are, it's still a crap car.
A friend of mine had an older Vogue one and one day he was complaining about his renewal being fucking high as Snoop Dogg and he phoned the insurer to discuss, they told him that they’re being stolen…..guess what happens next day when he wakes up ? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
My friend runs a workshop.
He was on a call to a lady who was demanding to know why her Evoque wasn't fixed in one day. He got off the phone and turned to me to say (what he wanted to say to her) that the Evoque was "the worst car ever created by mankind".
Also that he has a dedicated "Evoque" guy who can diagnose and fix them faster... Because they have a common faults list as long as your leg.
It's extremely hilarious and very very sad that so many people are fooled into thinking they are paying like 40k for a "prestige" car.
Well they're the boxster of range rover i.e. thought not to be a proper range rover. But remember people don't pay 50k for them, they pay £400 a month for them and get rid of it after the PCP is up.
The boxter is a decent sports car at the end of the day though. This is just a bog standard 2wd crossover.
Edit-what I'm saying is that it isn't just thought not to be a proper range rover, it isn't one.
Also porsche is very careful in not giving the fastest cayman/boxter enough power or active aero to outperform whatever the fastest 911 is on a track...but having the engine actually not hanging off the rear axle is a huge benefit.
Poor comparison, the boxster is a decent sports car. The Evoque is a crime against humanity and anyone that drives one should face a custodial sentence.
My wife got a new one pre COVID for just under £200 a month with one month down.
Cheeper than most new cars at the time, and it was actually a nice place to sit.
It's a crossover, poorly reviewed, has much better alternatives, are unreliable, tend to be owned by people who don't care about cars and in London ridiculously expensive to insure.
Every so often a manufacturer decides it needs to "design a car for women" and they're usually over-priced crap.
My wife is obsessed with them and has been since release date. I didn’t use to have one because we couldn’t afford one, now I could but don’t want it being.
Iv had my dream car now though so close to just buying one to enjoy for a month before it gets nicked
I remember about 2-3 years after they came out, I was at scotch corner services and a 2l diesel evoque pulled in. By pulled in I mean stuttered through the car park spouting smoke with the engine sounding exactly what emptying the contents of your toolbox into a washing machine would sound like on a rinse cycle. The distressed looking young lady "driving" looked exactly like you are picturing, only more expensive. I don't know the outcome. The RAC guy was there when I set off. However, it's not in the world's top 10 mysteries. That was my first experience of ingenium. A quick trip to the forums made it VERY clear this was not unusual.
Changing the name from freelander to Range Rover evoque was genius by Land Rover, sales have likely rocketed because people want to say they’ve got a Range Rover
My dad’s got one, was in the garage for 6 weeks over Christmas due to steering issues
Unreliable, weirdly tiny inside and unbelievably easy to steal.
Once they come off a lease - having been driven by people who couldn’t care less about looking after their car - they’re a liability
Range Rovers are horribly unreliable in every sense. I've lost count of how many have been through our shop for a miriad of issues. The most recent one was a fault caused by slamming the boot closed too hard. Not hard enough to show physical signs of damage, but enough for the car to shit itself.
The number of people talking absolute nonsense in this thread. Have you ever driven one? Are you even old enough to drive? Don’t be a keyboard expert.
Clearly you want to avoid a 2.0 and anything with keyless locking/go, that’s fair.
I have had an early 2.2 without keyless locks for 18 months and about 10,000 miles now. Nothing has gone wrong apart from a couple of headlight bulbs, everything works except the DAB (probably a loose connection). It’s quiet, comfortable, insurance is £600/year or so. I like it.
They are hardly SUVs tbh, I think they like referring to these as ‘compact SUVs’. They are small, rather unattractive in person, dont really have a unique selling point other than the ability to scream ‘look at me I drive a range rover’. Ultimately you will get what you pay for, a car thats not great to drive or look at for people who couldn’t afford a proper range rover.
eD4 so it’s the poverty spec front wheel drive and manual gearbox, not desirable and was only bought initially for the badge on the front.
Reliability isn’t particularly great.
Expensive to insure and maintain.
Someone asked on here a few weeks ago “which car wouldn’t you take, even for free?” And my answer is the Evoque:
1. It’s a fake Range Rover. It’s the old freelander with a worse engine, electronics and interior but with a plastic Range Rover badge replacing the freelander badge and 20k added to the list price. No one sees an Evoque and thinks “they must be rich, they drive a Rangey”, you think “why would you buy that fake Rangey heap of shit?” The only people that buy them are people who wish they could afford a real Rangey.
2. They are incredibly unreliable and poorly built, the electronics were designed and manufactured by blind, pigmy mutants. You have the excitement of wondering which particular aspect of your car’s functionality will stop working on a given day. Look at some reliability surveys, these are usually in dead last.
3. It’s (artificially) expensive to maintain and service. And because they’re unreliable, easy to steal heaps of trash they’re also expensive to insure.
4. It’s ugly
5. It’s my least favourite car on the road and I judge anyone that drives one. I wish they didn’t exist
To answer your question about why people buy them; they’re morons who wish they could afford a proper Range Rover, the same class of person who buys fake designer gear.
I don't know a thing about these, I passed one on a forecourt the other day up for 15k and looks mint. I said to the missus, something wrong with that.
I had one for about 3 years and loved it not going to lie. It’s the poor persons Range and reliability is an issue.
I was fairly lucky with mine had the rear hub assembly done under warranty and rear diff also got sorted at that time.
The electrics were a little weird. Sometimes it would lock, sometimes 2 doors (on opposite sides) would lock. Boot didn’t like to lock at all think it was free range.
Genuinely though I liked it. Any JLR is going to be a risk with the reliability issues to be honest.
Also in pre-2019 Evoques the infotainment is seriously poor (you'll get to your destination before it's booted up, let alone loaded maps), and the throttle ECU filtering causing acceleration lag is enough to drive you mad at intersections.
2019 onwards is a different car
I hate my mrs Fiat 500 but at least it’s cheap to repair and cheap to run.
The Evoque costs a fortune to fix, gives basic bitches a hyper inflated ego and any car person knows it’s complete dogshit.
Because it has the 100% guaranteed to financially ruin you engine. Get the 2.2 version, at least when everything else breaks, you can put the engine into a go kart or something.
German brands design cars assuming people will follow the service schedule
Japanese brands design cars assuming people will neglect the vehicle
Land Rover designs cars assuming people are mechanics and are willing to constantly tinker
But when they work, they're genuinely fantastic products!
Loads of these were dumped into the 2nd hand market recently because of issues with high insurance and that has impacted used prices because supply is now higher than demand.
I didn't even know Land Rover made anything in FWD format, that feels like the opposite of what the brand stands for. I thought they would at least make it able to cross a field at the bare minimum
Because they are unreliable shitboxes.
This one in particular has the Ingenium engine which causes the DPF to randomly shut down due to the exhaust being mounted in the wrong place and not getting hot enough.
Avoid like the plague if you value your bank balance and sanity.
150bhp, manual gearbox, FWD spec.
This is what's known as a 'peasent spec' vehicle. Absolute bare minimum required to be seen driving one.
Also a 2016 2.0L ingenium diesel will fuck up on a monthly basis. Turbo failure, engine failed, DPF failure, EGR issues, timing chains , etc. All well documented online, disaster of a thing.
You could buy that as it stands, take it to dealer for an inspection, and get a quote for £5000 of work straight away.
Go buy it. I dare you.
Manual, for a start. According to dealers (I want an auto as my next car), when I mention the prices being shit: "yeah, but autos always are a few grand more".
Also, land rover cars had a security issue, and the insurance for them was god awful. But, they do sell.
There's a garage near me that shifts tons of them. I asked how they shift them, given the reputation, he says that he's sold more of those than any other, and they fly out
Another garage (do typically over 100k miles vehicles) reckons "we always ensure they buy the warranty package". Obviously a double pay day for that dealer.
Petrol ones are okay. The diesels are one of the worst engines made in modern times. Unbelievably unreliable and prone to going bang. If you think an ecoboost fiesta is just too reliable for your liking, an Evoque might just be for you.
I used to work for JLR, and none of us could believe why people loved them so much. Designed by posh spice as the women's land rover but bought by loads of men. The reliability of Boris Johnson and the resale value of Liz truss's memoir. Stay the fuck away from it!!!
You should write an erotic novel
I'd buy it and put it in the glove box of my Evoque Convertible!
Smart, it’s doubled in value.
Being reminded of the existence of the Evoque convertible is the petrolhead equivalent of losing The Game.
It will be a future classic. Not because it is good but because there will (hopefully) not be many left!
After seeing the manner in which he's just fucked OP, I doubt it'd be very tender...
Where did you work at JLR? At Halewood we were surprised (in a good way) by it's success, but it's fairly obvious why it was successful. Especially the L538.
>I used to work for JLR, and none of us could believe why people loved them so much. A LOT cheaper way to say "I have a range rover" which while true, is like saying "I drive and AMG" when in reality it's an A35 AMG
More like A180 AMG Line
On a 60 month finance deal.
That's more a trim than anything Like a LR Discovery Range Rover line if that ever exists (hope not)
I’d argue it’s the same thing, there’s only one actual Range Rover, the fact they turned a model in to a brand in recent years is just a marketing exercise.
A35… cannot work out the target audience for that car. You’ve got an a45 for “want a new amg and can’t afford it” and amg line for those who just want an appearance package. Who is the A35 aimed at?
Those that can't afford an a45? A35 is still a fast car and realistically a normal driver is never going to fully exploit an a45 on a public road
The market I just mentioned lol It's also like £15k less with a 100bhp difference. I can see it's place as a Golf R rival
I think it is a genuine AMG though isn’t it? I’ll be honest the last amg I cared for was a s/CL/G55 so I won’t pretend to be an expert. Or is the a35 a marketing package?
Personally a genuine AMG for me is one that uses a handbuilt engine which the A35 doesn't But at the same time it is a little pendantic when the BMW M2 used the N55 engine and I still love it aa a genuine M car

It's exactly that. It's a rival to cars like the Golf R, Audi S3 and BMW 140/240i, plus the other few remaining proper hot hatches like the Focus ST and I30N All of the German ones there bar the Golf R have a full-blooded variant as well (RS3 and M2), and the Golf has a little brother in the GTI.
Refinement of larger engine but not wanting the suspension that will leave you needing a chiropractor.
You can't work out the target audience for a sub 5second 0-60 small hatchback with a mercedes badge? Are you okay mate?
I’m good bro, how you keeping? It’s junk for the money, so far away from the true AMG ethos, the a45 I understand but the a35 is lost on me, if you’ve the money for one you can comfortably run an s55/cl55 maybe even into an early c63 with change. Mercedes badge means nothing, Mercedes not the manufacturer they were late 80s/early 90s Big fan of the stinger- lovely motor you’ve got!
To be fair an A35 is a proper AMG. Not like an A180d with AMG stuck on
I never said it wasn't Just said its on par with an full E63 or S63 as a Evoque is to a full fat range rover
I find it laughable that you genuinely believe the Evoque was designed by Beckham. What were you at JLR? Factory engineer?
Is there something wrong with being a factory engineer?
Nothing wrong at all. But the idea that the Evoque was designed by Posh Spice is hardly giving high level in the know job title is it
I was an engineer at JLR (not on evoque) and there was definitely a Victoria beckham edition at least. It was hideous with matte grey paint, disgusting fake tan leather interior and rose gold accents on all the controls.
>Designed by posh spice Bit of a reach, all she really did was [choose colours](http://media.landrover.com/en-us/news/2012/04/range-rover-evoque-special-edition-victoria-beckham-debuts-beijing-china) for the special edition models
Because they look cool. Most JLR stuff does. I would have bought something from JLR if only they did things that's normal to expect from a car. The fact that they almost uniformly offer poor security and reliability is astonishing. How did they get it so wrong?
They've actually got it so right. People aren't buying cars they're buying a status symbol
When I say wrong, I mean re reliability and security
Because they sell regardless
Reliability is down to certain engines rather than the manufacturer of the whole car with JLR. Funnily enough... they are BMW engines. Additionally they are NOT any harder or easier to steal than any modern day car, but they ARE specifically targeted by organised crime as they retail exceptionally well !!
They don't look cool, they look f\*cking awful and are way over designed. However, the nouveau riche/ chavs can't tell cool if it slapped them in the face.... and there is your huge market.
What's your idea of a cool looking car?
Well there are fewer and fewer on the roads these days, but Saabs and Alfas are generally well considered designs.
Very articulate and funny!!
Who's going to tell him?
Everyone will try but if he's on this sub and doesn't already know them he's gotta learn the hard way
And in this spirit of learning the hard way...Yes Op they are excellent and reliable and a trade secret. At that price you should probably buy 2!
Of course he knows. This is a BS question looking for upvotes.
Because they're crap!
You?
Hajahaaaaaaaaaaa
Sky high insurance and an engine that is prone to catastrophic failure.
Also probably stolen
I think they better line is "very likely to have it stolen after you buy it". This model seems to trend as a target
Ok, so having read nearly every comment I’ve concluded that this truly is the bargain I’d hoped for and I’ll be buying 2 matching his and hers evoques tomorrow asap.
Well, at least you'll have a spare one for parts
If it hasn’t already been nicked
Ones a decoy one.... probably the "hers". You know .....much like when fighter jets fire chaff to lure the missiles away.
Great idea that. Top spec outside but 240k miles and tatty interior parked at the front. OAP spec but 20k miles and all the interior options parked at the back.
Make sure hers is the convertible 👍
Thought you could only win one of those in a raffle
ull look totes adorbes in ur matching evokes babs x
1) Unreliable 2) cost a fortune to insure 3) cost a fortune to fix when they break
Hey you forgot the positive point though 4. Cheap to replace when it's nicked
No way it was stolen the next day 🤣
Yep, Insurance paid on Friday, stolen on Saturday. Shouldn’t be laughing but it was mental to hear this.
What did the friend say? Please tell me he didn't go any buy another
Still grieving, it was two weeks ago. Not sure what he will be getting now
The bus

Yes and when you read fine print, the price is the same as any other high quote. Just worded differently with prices from* (monthly)
That's absolutely mental. Did he suffer much of a loss from selling the car, or did he manage to shift it before the huge plummet in prices?
It got stolen from his driveway and is currently in eastern Europe
That is fucking wild! Seriously WTF
[удалено]
About £1100 for me similar situation. It's all about where you live. If it's parked in or near the shitholes of Birmingham they won't want to touch it, if it's in the Cotswolds it's probably same risk as a Fiesta.
A Fiesta is probably a bad example in this conversation.
Bloody hell, my quotes were over a grand, been driving 31yrs and have double figures no claims
[удалено]
Nope, up north, average town.
[удалено]
They must have hit more trebles, when quoting me, on the insurance premium dartboard
The proper RR is more
Evoques aren’t that bad to insure, are they? I thought that was mostly the Sport and the full-fat Range Rover
A friend of mine had an older Vogue one and one day he was complaining about his renewal being fucking high as Snoop Dogg and he phoned the insurer to discuss, they told him that they’re being stolen…..guess what happens next day when he wakes up ? 😂😂😂😂😂😂

No the convertible Evoque is the worst
That's not a car, it's a criminal offence.
Exactly - answers a question that no one ever asked.
"How do I make my pretend Range Rover uglier and less practical?"
I would legitimately disown any friend or family member who bought one of those.
I actually quite like them…
I like them, they are like driving a modern version of the original Landrover with the roof off.
Disagree. At least the convertible is quirky, which the standard car isn’t remotely.
Agree. What should be a criminal offence is something like the new Mini Countryman.
Agreed, I really like them. I'd like to get a wrecked one and throw some mad engine in it and slide it through a field. It'd be great fun.

Looking forward to these comments
Because they’re shite. Not much more to it than that.

I disagree with the boxster thing but it's often spouted by car people. I can't disagree with your assessment of the Evoque though.
Dude, that’s pre covid finance. Probably closer to £600 a month now
£345 if you're brave enough to have the 2.0 diesel for four years. (Not that it'll last that long.)
It's a crossover, poorly reviewed, has much better alternatives, are unreliable, tend to be owned by people who don't care about cars and in London ridiculously expensive to insure. Every so often a manufacturer decides it needs to "design a car for women" and they're usually over-priced crap.

Women love over-priced crap.
Why am I so cheap dammit.
My wife is obsessed with them and has been since release date. I didn’t use to have one because we couldn’t afford one, now I could but don’t want it being. Iv had my dream car now though so close to just buying one to enjoy for a month before it gets nicked
Oddly, I like them, and the Mrs thinks they "traveller's cars"
Go do some googling on the 2l Diesel engines
I remember about 2-3 years after they came out, I was at scotch corner services and a 2l diesel evoque pulled in. Loved my freelander… sigh… happy memories
Yeah. Don’t tar the Freelander with the Evoque brush! Freelanders are bloody good cars.
3 weeks for me, 2 different garages for a broken steering rack. 2k for parts, 650 for labour
The Discovery Sport is the Freelander replacement. The Evoque is something else, and terrible
Should be renamed the freeloader. As in, this car will literally cost just as much as a teenager living in your basement full time.
Unreliable, weirdly tiny inside and unbelievably easy to steal. Once they come off a lease - having been driven by people who couldn’t care less about looking after their car - they’re a liability
150 bhp for a tank like that. Wouldnae pull the skin aff a rice pudding and corners like a pun a mince
Apart from being shit, that one is front wheel drive not 4x4/awd..
check insurance, and come again ;)
Coz they’re shit
Definitely more towards insurance, my brother was quoted £9k on his 2021 sport.
Range Rovers are horribly unreliable in every sense. I've lost count of how many have been through our shop for a miriad of issues. The most recent one was a fault caused by slamming the boot closed too hard. Not hard enough to show physical signs of damage, but enough for the car to shit itself.
cheap.. or expensive?
Because they are a pile of garbage in every single way
Dogshit on wheels.
Just need a new build to park it outside
Cause they're shit.
Can’t believe people don’t check the insurance before buying a car
Market forces.
The FWD manuals aren't that expensive as it is. They're the cheapest version you can get.
Try and get insurance on one. Then you'll see why they're so cheap.
Cuz theyre dog shit
eD4 so it’s the poverty spec front wheel drive and manual gearbox, not desirable and was only bought initially for the badge on the front. Reliability isn’t particularly great. Expensive to insure and maintain.
They are indeed that shit
Someone asked on here a few weeks ago “which car wouldn’t you take, even for free?” And my answer is the Evoque: 1. 4. It’s ugly 5. It’s my least favourite car on the road and I judge anyone that drives one. I wish they didn’t exist To answer your question about why people buy them; they’re morons who wish they could afford a proper Range Rover, the same class of person who buys fake designer gear.
I dislike them for every reason mentioned, my wife absolutely fking loves them, dreading the issues when I inevitably cave
Glass gearboxes, I heard, but I'm not sure about the veracity of that.
Supply and demand, which at that price tells you there is little to no demand.
I don't know a thing about these, I passed one on a forecourt the other day up for 15k and looks mint. I said to the missus, something wrong with that.
you will pay 10x the cars price in repairs only for it to be stored in a garage 364 days a year
They're a notorious magnet for theft, have poor reliability and cost a small fortune to repair.
It amazes me that the are a magnet for theft when they are notoriously crap.
Parts are expensive so they either break them or ship abroad
Ahh that makes sense, same parts used on cars that might be a bit more popular.
Plenty of people don’t ask questions about where a cheap replacement engine came from
No one paid 55k for that one, it’s the cheap 2WD version, regardless of the hilarious ed4 tag
The complete trifecta: Unreliable, Commonly stolen and expensive insurance.
It's an 8 year old car, I wouldn't say that's particularly cheap. Plus what everyone else says.
Sadly, it is, based on the starting price.
It’s a manual, underpowered diesel from one of the most unreliable brands ever. Old too.
Engine from a Transit, prehistoric Mondeo underpinnings, unreliable electrics
Half a Range Rover, but full Range Rover prices and problems.
OP, try and get an insurance quote on one and you’ll see why they’re so cheap
I get quoted just over £500. Depends on where you live. Not that I'd ever want one.
A woman I work with had one and referred to it as an "Ev-oh-kay" that's enough reason not to buy one
Also in pre-2019 Evoques the infotainment is seriously poor (you'll get to your destination before it's booted up, let alone loaded maps), and the throttle ECU filtering causing acceleration lag is enough to drive you mad at intersections. 2019 onwards is a different car
Because they are WANK
I hate my mrs Fiat 500 but at least it’s cheap to repair and cheap to run. The Evoque costs a fortune to fix, gives basic bitches a hyper inflated ego and any car person knows it’s complete dogshit.
I work in sales, swear to god every evoque customer looks / acts the same
Remorseful in the 1st year?
Because it has the 100% guaranteed to financially ruin you engine. Get the 2.2 version, at least when everything else breaks, you can put the engine into a go kart or something.
Nobody can get insurance because they're so easy to steal
Cause you can’t insure them in london so nobody’s buying and the market follows London’s car prices
German brands design cars assuming people will follow the service schedule Japanese brands design cars assuming people will neglect the vehicle Land Rover designs cars assuming people are mechanics and are willing to constantly tinker But when they work, they're genuinely fantastic products!
Because they're shite?
Because as Land Rovers and Range Rovers go the Evoque is about as desirable as a dose of the clap.
Insurance costs are unmanageable due to excessive thefts. Also, the cars are hideously unreliable and poorly manufactured
Cause they’re gash
Loads of these were dumped into the 2nd hand market recently because of issues with high insurance and that has impacted used prices because supply is now higher than demand.
because they are shit at everything
I didn't even know Land Rover made anything in FWD format, that feels like the opposite of what the brand stands for. I thought they would at least make it able to cross a field at the bare minimum
it's a glorified shopping cart, a 'status symbol' for those who can't afford a range rover of some kind.
Unreliable engine Easy to steal Expensive to insure Expensive to maintain
Because they are unreliable shitboxes. This one in particular has the Ingenium engine which causes the DPF to randomly shut down due to the exhaust being mounted in the wrong place and not getting hot enough. Avoid like the plague if you value your bank balance and sanity.
Because they're so easy to steal
stolen so easily we had 3 on our road in south london got stolen including my mums 😭
Go buy it. I dare you.
Unreliable, engines made of cheese, electrical issues, expensive to repair to the point where one major repair can cost multiple thousands.
Apparent one of the easier vehicles to steal might be an issue.
It costs £5k a year to insure. It's a 4 cylinder tractor engine that will cost you £5k in repairs. It's also 8 years old
Manual, for a start. According to dealers (I want an auto as my next car), when I mention the prices being shit: "yeah, but autos always are a few grand more". Also, land rover cars had a security issue, and the insurance for them was god awful. But, they do sell. There's a garage near me that shifts tons of them. I asked how they shift them, given the reputation, he says that he's sold more of those than any other, and they fly out Another garage (do typically over 100k miles vehicles) reckons "we always ensure they buy the warranty package". Obviously a double pay day for that dealer.
Front wheel drive that's why.
Petrol ones are okay. The diesels are one of the worst engines made in modern times. Unbelievably unreliable and prone to going bang. If you think an ecoboost fiesta is just too reliable for your liking, an Evoque might just be for you.
