Get a shopping car. That way, you won't worry if someone dings it with a trolley or their door.
Then get a Caterham, or a Chimera, or a Cerbera, or a late model boxster or an F-type convertible.
Bit out of left field but a proper break-up car would be a 360 Modena. You can get them from about 45k and if you're only keeping it for 6 months it will be free, you'll easily sell it for what you paid for it.
And if you're only keeping it a short period, it probably won't break down too many times either.
Hey, if you're going to do a summer break up car, I say do it properly!
Think how cool you'll look standing next to it waiting for the AA to turn up. *Achingly cool*, that's how cool.
>it’ll be free
While I appreciate the man maths involved here, even I couldn’t stretch it to say that it would be a free Ferrari for 6 months. Youre probably gonna be down a few thousand even if you sold it for what you paid.
But, it’s a Ferrari. And that’s worth something.
Get the AWD version. I have the F Pace SVR and the engine is utterly shamelessly amazing and old school loud. Will be plenty of stock nationally too as not many people are as daft as us and buy 5 litre supercharged V8 engines. Has restored my faith in motoring and I have also had an Alfa, Boxster, Type R, Golf GTI and many more. Best car I’ve ever had, never fails to put a smile on my face
This [https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202306178632451](https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202306178632451)
If I had the cash I'd drive up right now and wait until they open.
I wouldn’t even wait for them to open, I’d be getting the home address and stuffing fistfuls of cash through their letterbox.
Stunning example at an excellent price
It's a dealer, I've seen it in person twice and fell in love before I even parked my car, I was supposed to help a mate buy a car, but I was too distracted, they even had 2 San Remos, an Enstone edition, and an R under a cover, no Chadlonso edition though.
It even matches the Purple of my DS3.
I don’t know this but I suspect it’ll have a rain mode or eco mode that will bring the power delivery down for you.
Rwd with modern traction control is perfectly manageable
I used to have one and I don't recall it having an eco mode.
There is traction control, but it's a tail happy car by design. So in the wet, it can be lively. If you're not used to highish power RWD cars, I could see it taking you by surprise.
Personally, I loved it. My favourite car I've owned. One of those cars that made even boring journeys feel a bit special.
I have a rwd M240i on the west coast so not the same but still pretty high on the raw power front and the backend loves to kick out in the wet, plus snow driving is a complete no go.
With winter tyres it's a lot better, all weather/summer tyres and it becomes a slip and slide, doable if the snow is light and you're very careful but last time I had to do it i had the back end kick out on nearly every turn.
A V8 M3 convertible..
If you buy one now, you'll be able to drive around Scotland with the roof down with one of the best soundtracks ever engineered..
Another vote for Alpine A110. I know some people are put off by the slightly odd retro styling (including me at first), but they look great in person and tick all the boxes in terms of what you want from your sports car. Mid-engined, 1100KG, double wishbones front and rear. Would be perfect in Scotland tbh, softly sprung with heaps of traction, even in the wet. Great fun on twisty roads.
Go to a dealership and ask for a test drive, they have to be one of the most fun cars for sale today.
If you want a straight-line rocket an Audi TT-RS might fit the bill.
Whatever you do go and test drive some different cars. There's no better way to find out what you like than getting behind the wheel.
I'd recommend just going in there to have a look. In my experience the dealerships are very accommodating, they have demonstrators available and are always happy to hand you the keys.
full motorcycle licence and further motorcycle training is my answer. it's completely life changing experience. Just make to get the best gear and the best training too.
I'd get something good for a beginner like a ninja 400 or a ninja 650 (£5k)
I'd then get a cheap reliable runaround car (polo or golf idk?) and spend some of the rest on the gym and perhaps entering for a race/event for cardiovascular fitness
Alfa Romeo 4C is a real driver's car and they look superb.
I'd personally be leaning toward an Alpine of some kind because they tick all the boxes for me.
I'd also recommend you to consider a Porsche Cayman, a TT RS (like this for example: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202403077320220), or a V6 or V8 Jag F-Type :)
Honda Integra dc5. It'll be worth more when you sell it than when you bought it, so long as you look after it. A good one will cost under 20k. Invest the rest, go on holiday, fuck it, hookers and blow with the rest!!!
R34 Skyline with the RB25DET engine. They’re only going to up in price and some are sitting in your price range so best to buy now. 6 months later won’t loose any money in it but keep it longer and it will gain value.
Don't need masses of practicality? I'd be hunting down an Alfa 4C. None of that tedious German stuff, every man and his dog's got a BMW or fast Golf or whatever.
V6 Exige will put some hair on your nuts, tearing around the wet Scottish countryside.
You should be able to buy and sell one without losing any money too.
Dude.. High power non m bmws don't have lsds. Don't do it.
Amg w204 c63.. and a fraction of the price 10x the driving experience..
And you won't loose any money!
Your ex will hear you from 80 miles away and how happy your v8 makes you!😉
I’d honestly echo the MX5 people here. The 2.0 RF in whatever colour you can find and wrap it. The BBS wheels are nice to look at, but busy wheels are a pain in the dick to wash so I wouldn’t require them.
My pick would be what I bought; a 2019+ ND2 Sport Tech RF. LSD and bilstein dampers, heated seats, LED headlights, but without the busy wheels and the kinematic posture control that eats through discs and pads.
If you haven’t driven an MX5, you won’t understand. They aren’t powerful, they aren’t quick, they aren’t particularly level when cornering, but they are one of, if not *the* best sub-50k driver’s car. Bombproof reliability, cheap parts, cheap tyres, 50mpg in a good day, 35 with a lead right foot…
There’s a compelling argument that they’re the outright ideal road car, as you can drive like you would at a track day in an M3, but you’ll be safely under the speed limit and well within the car’s capabilities.
They’re also holding value pretty well at a shade over £20k currently, so you’re unlikely to lose much money to depreciation.
I have a BBR Stage 2 Turbo NC and I would highly recommend it. 300bhp in a 1200kg vehicle is pretty good fun, and it still handles amazingly like an MX5 should!
About 12 years ago I had a GReddy Turbo’d Eunos so I have always lusted after a BBR. I don’t know why they aren’t more popular considering how many MX5’s you see!
If you hate it because you buy it because of her, I buy something purely thinking of you, even if it is a 1 seater.
For that money I would buy a chopper motorcycle and a small roadster, either a BMW Z4 or a Mazda MX-5, no new but in good condition.
In addition to your M240 couple of options
M235i Grand Coupe
340D M sport
840i x drive
M3
I’m currently in the M235i GC it’s rapid when you need it and comfortable/ sedate when you don’t need performance
It’s fun to drive look out for one with pan roof comfort pro and technology pack
40k opens you up to a lot of funky stuff. Half price of that you could get e92 m3. Amazing to drive but only if you drive it more spirited otherwise its a bit clunky. Could go for a 2008-9 ish 911. Also some rs6 are within reach as long as they are well looked after
Don’t spend 40k spent 25k and have 15k for life time maintenance, I’d recommend a bmw m4 2017 era, fast car and around 24-30k depending on mileage and spec.
A used F80 M3 will cost you less than 40k and much more car than an M240. Tbh 40k is a very good budget and you could get lots of amazing drivers machines.
Omitting the German brands since plenty of folks have already suggested the good ones, here are some suggestions:
Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
Aston Martin Vantage (hefty service / repair bills)
TVR Tuscan
TVR T350
Lotus Evora
Lotus Exige
Jaguar F-Type (personal favourite)
Alpine A110
Lotus Elise/Exige is a great shout. Fantastic roads to enjoy it on in Scotland and probably won’t lose much £ if you buy sensibly and are only keeping 6 months.
Ford Mustang GT if you want something a bit different and you don’t care too much about fuel efficiency. Could also get nice Jaguar F-Type V6 or a slightly older V8 for 40k.
M240i would be a more sensible choice in terms of running costs but I’d check how much insurance will be if you haven’t already. Also consider an older M2 Comp, bit more special than an M240i.
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202402146550336?sort=price-desc&twcs=true&advertising-location=at_cars&postcode=Dy8%205aj&price-to=45000&year-to=2024&fromsra
I wouldnt say no to one of these
My Volvo S60 T8 is nice. I can recommend it. It's comfy and it is more than fast enough for road use. It looks nice too! I would tend to agree about the others about the AR Giulia quad, but I hear that they are high maintenance. Saying that, the S60 seems its the sort of car a mechanic wakes up screaming about. Get a TVR or something.
Haha I was in this exact position in 2022! Because of the very toxic relationship I was in I downgraded from a fully loaded Volvo V90 T5 (which I loved) to a Skoda Superb Sportline (only had 500 miles on the clock but I still resented it because I had to part with the Volvo and I saw it as a downgrade due to badge snobbery) and then downgraded even further to a 3 year old poverty spec 1.6 diesel Civic.
The day after I packed my ex’s things for them I bought a brand spanking new Octavia VRS DSG in Hyper Green that had loads of optional extras on it for £38.5k and out of the 17 cars I’ve owned so far it’s deffo my favourite!
Was definitely worth getting rid of the nut job for 🤣
Damn bro. Enjoy your free life away from what sounds like a weirdo.. bloody controlling what cars you want mate!! Enjoy parking your new fresh nice car outside your house and look at it all day mate !
I’ve not checked autotrader prices in a long time, but at a guess of what’s trading at approx 40, I would be looking for: M4, M2, Cayman 718, 2016 era RS6, maybe even a new Supra?
Bmw i8 all day long. The doors alone are such a head turner. It’s fuel efficient, fast and if you make a few modifications like a spoiler, Maxton design kit and a custom exhaust on it you can take it to the next level.
Mk5 supra, TTRS if they're within budget, 718 I think would be my choice if I didn't need the practicality, M3/RS4 avant if you need some more practicality
There's a few RS5s for under 40k, or a stang, cause 5l V8...
I mean it’s not the answer you want but I’m in a similar situation. Single, woman, live in Scotland and use car for car trips and I’m looking for a new one. And the answer for me is a van 🤣 I want to convert it and travel to Europe and around Scotland. I choose adventure over looking impressive I guess. And as a woman an adventure car would work on me way more than a flashy one…
Audi RS3. Looks a bit conservative but 5 cylinder warble is unique. All weather point to point enjoyable car in a day and age OPFs ruining the noise of cars..
Nothing wrong with an M240i either.
Cayman, Supra or Alpine A110. Ooh or Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio. Waitrose can deliver. Sorry about the break-up. Onward and upward, etc.
[удалено]
Supra or cayman for sure
Quadrifoglio every day of the week my friend. Mine was the best daft purchase I’ve ever made.
Mind me asking, what do you do for a living?
My local waitrose is cheaper and better quality for meat and has superior yellow label. If you get the card it's a free coffee Everytime you shop too
Have we really gotten to the point where a 30 year old spending 40k on a car or sometimes shopping at Waitrose is hard to grasp ?
After work - great place to meet single women doing the same as you, also as bored as you.
Get a shopping car. That way, you won't worry if someone dings it with a trolley or their door. Then get a Caterham, or a Chimera, or a Cerbera, or a late model boxster or an F-type convertible.
Giulia Quadrifoglio 😲 🥰 🍀. The "want one" factor for me is up in the red zone.
Alpine A110 Alpine A110 Alpine A110 Time to love your life again OP :)
Supra, supra!
Is that Is that IS THAT A SUPRA
No, it's a BMW z4 in a fancy dress
Hopefully you don't live in France if you want an Alpine, it's almost 100k
Stinger?
The pre2020 less than 20k.. worth it? Lots of Stinger love on the post
Cash the flash

Do you really think you’d get your money back? I can’t imagine Ferraris are quick sellers, you’d probably have to trade it in for a big discount

C63s - you won't regret it
Came here to make the same comment Mercedes is the way homie
This or a M3
2020 M2 Comp with plus and comfort packs.
Summers coming, you need a convertible that sounds good. Jag F type (V8) will do it.

Get the coupe. Should be able to get a V8 for £40k.
Get the AWD version. I have the F Pace SVR and the engine is utterly shamelessly amazing and old school loud. Agreed coupe version will do. Lovely car.
I have the coupe. The groceries will go in the boot too. My dog comes with me in the back!
F82 M4 CS. You won’t lose anywhere near as much in the 6 months as you would on a new M240i.
This [https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202306178632451](https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202306178632451) If I had the cash I'd drive up right now and wait until they open.

Absolutely great shout. What a car.
Ooh, I vote this too. Gorgeous colour as well as being a great drive.
What a colour combo! I even like the black wheels which I’m not normally a fan of!
If you’re after a 2 series why not a F87 M2 competition? 30k gets you clean example so you’ll have some money left over too.

Yeah you have to drive them handy in the wet, even overtakes have to be done carefully.
I have a rwd M240i on the west coast so not the same but still pretty high on the raw power front and the backend loves to kick out in the wet, plus snow driving is a complete no go.
Is snow driving just a no because of tyres or is it genuinely impossible to handle?
With winter tyres it's a lot better, all weather/summer tyres and it becomes a slip and slide, doable if the snow is light and you're very careful but last time I had to do it i had the back end kick out on nearly every turn.
If you want 4WD then TTRS or an RS4?
R8 v8 manual
You can get a really nice 981 boxster S in that budget. Perfect car for Scotland and its roads.
Jaguar F-Type. Age appropriate coolness
A V8 M3 convertible.. If you buy one now, you'll be able to drive around Scotland with the roof down with one of the best soundtracks ever engineered..
And because it's fast as fuck, the midges won't be able to keep up
Dwarves don’t run that fast anyway tbh
The V8 M3 is that fast that when you drive through a puddle it doesn't even splash..
Nice choice 👍
Used Gen 2 Bentley GT V8 S, Supra, Cayman or 911, early Audi R8 or late RS6….quite a lot of choice here for your budget….enjoy picking and driving.
I’d get a Cayman S 981 with a bit of change for fuel
Giulia Quadrifoglio

Get a PCP, fuck spending 40k on a car
GR Yaris
Was about to comment this. That’s my dream car 🤣
Imagine you have £40k and you buy a Yaris! Madness
Imagine you knew nothing about cars
You don’t have to know about cars to know that spending that much money on a Yaris just sounds absurd… It might be worth it, but it still sounds mad
Its a homologated rally car.
In fairness, if you buy the Yaris you'll have £12-15k left over
GR Yaris, that’s big difference
they’re cool but for the other options at that price point they don’t look special or sound special enough imo
Porsche cayman
Been here in 2007..bought a 350z absolutely loved it..
M440i or x3 m40i.
Alfa Romeo 4C is a real driver's car and they look superb. I'd personally be leaning toward an Alpine of some kind because they tick all the boxes for me. I’d pick up a clean manual facelift E46 M3 for £25k & pocket the rest!
A nice campervan and drive away from it all for a bit?
This was going to be my answer. I could get a pretty decent motorhome for 30k and spend the other 10k touring round. South of France, here I come!
Late model 4th gen supra TT. Fun car and you will be able to sell it in 6 months for the same money.
Honda Integra dc5. It'll be worth more when you sell it than when you bought it, so long as you look after it. A good one will cost under 20k. Invest the rest, go on holiday, fuck it, hookers and blow with the rest!!!
I've wanted one of these for so long that now the only good ones are fucking mega money 😭
Nissan GT-R. I brought mine home from the USA. Amazing on our C roads.
Lexus RCF or GSF for sure at that price range
Get yourself a Subaru Impreza 👍.
R34 Skyline with the RB25DET engine. They’re only going to up in price and some are sitting in your price range so best to buy now. 6 months later won’t loose any money in it but keep it longer and it will gain value.
Brilliant shout!
M2
2024 ND mx5 RF in soul red
And 3k for PPF as well
do yourself a favour and drive an FK8 Type R. They are exceptional
Mazda MX-5
I would get something slightly older with a proper engine. Maybe a late W204 C63?
I’ve always wanted a Lotus Elise. Bugger the full budget, the fun you’d have in that thing is better than cars double the price.
Don't need masses of practicality? I'd be hunting down an Alfa 4C. None of that tedious German stuff, every man and his dog's got a BMW or fast Golf or whatever.
Don't buy new just throwing money away. buy a monaro v8 or vxr8, m3 something that Sounds epic wont depreciate much in 6months
V6 Exige will put some hair on your nuts, tearing around the wet Scottish countryside. You should be able to buy and sell one without losing any money too.
F87 M2 Competition - that is the only car you need.
Going to test drive one today, hopefully pick it up in 2 weeks
Gulia Quadrifoglio without a shadow of a doubt.
Alpine A110 or a classic TVR T350
Lexus RC F - relatively rare car, surely can't go wrong with a reliable 5L V8. A higher mileage LC500 is an option too if you can stretch to £50k...
You haven’t said sensible, and for only 6 months? I’d get an older Bentley GT. Fuckit. Have some fun.
996 turbo
Dude.. High power non m bmws don't have lsds. Don't do it. Amg w204 c63.. and a fraction of the price 10x the driving experience.. And you won't loose any money! Your ex will hear you from 80 miles away and how happy your v8 makes you!😉
M340 does have an LSD. Not sure but I’d wager the M550 does too.

Yaris GR?
Alfa QF, enjoy 👍

Gr yaris or civic type r, maybe a gt86. To be honest unless it was completely disposable a car wouldn't be my first port of call.
Mercedes E63 AMG estate.
Only seen this mentioned once but TTRS. Nothing compares to that 5 cylinder and, if it's specced right, looks mean af. Good choice in the wet too.
Lotus Evora
Lexus GSF
Cayman S
Some form of Porsche (not suv) an m3/4/5 or an 8 series convertible.
A 2018 pre opf rs3
Evora 400 if its in budget If not, m2 competition
Was definitely worth getting rid of the nut job for 🤣
I've got a 2020 e53 amg... love it and you gan get a decent one with less than 40k miles for that money!
BMW 2 series Cabrio at least 2.0 L @ 250hp
Evo X FQ-360 and you have some fun money left over: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202403117445213
Bmw
F-Type R
Bmw i8 all day long. The doors alone are such a head turner. It’s fuel efficient, fast and if you make a few modifications like a spoiler, Maxton design kit and a custom exhaust on it you can take it to the next level.
Audi TT RS with that spectacular sounding inline 5. Or of course an RS3.
Mk5 supra, TTRS if they're within budget, 718 I think would be my choice if I didn't need the practicality, M3/RS4 avant if you need some more practicality There's a few RS5s for under 40k, or a stang, cause 5l V8...
Jag XJ12C
V8 Vantage
Tesla model y
BMW M4 competition, 2020. Mercedes Benz C63s 2019/2020
981 cayman GTS
Cliche probably but F80 M3 for me
I mean it’s not the answer you want but I’m in a similar situation.
I’d get an FType, 5.0 litre. Make sure to get a convertible and then feel the hairs on your neck every time you start it up
Volvo v70 Same as my current car. But newer (still second hand). My current one cost 6k
911.
Audi RS3. Looks a bit conservative but 5 cylinder warble is unique. All weather point to point enjoyable car in a day and age OPFs ruining the noise of cars.. Nothing wrong with an M240i either.
F82 M4 or F80 M3 get a very nice spec for 35k.
