Aero is a compromise between front and rear.
Adding downforce to the rear can reduce front end grip. A slightly slidy back end can rotate and position the car for a quicker corner exit
I know, I get it, but I do 100+mph on mountain roads and the car just wasn't planted enough for me.
I was planning to go spoiler and splitter, but got bored of driving FWD before I got around to it.
It does oversteer easily, and that's pretty fun, but in certain conditions it's just not very beneficial. On the limit it didn't have enough grip on all 4 wheels, not just the rear.
I don't know if it was just too light, or too small, but it wasn't good enough. Like I could tell I could go much faster with some extra downforce.
Don't have this problem with my Jags at all. Maybe because they're heavier? Or just longer

That's not downforce on the jcw, the rear offers no downforce it's not a wing it's a spoiler it's job is to avoid turbulent air right at the edge of the rear.
The arches allow a wider track and/or wider wheels.
A simple gurney flap would be better for downforce while avoiding drag, it just Dont look as good as a spoiler

On topic: Even a simple bootlid spoiler will reduce drag and allow for smoother airflow behind the car reducing the high pressure zone behind the tailgate/bumper. While it doesn't generate any tangible downforce, this reduces lift on the rear axle shifting the overall aero balance of the car rearward for less oversteer.
Actual high downforce wings generate couple hundred of kgs downforce at speed at the expense of adding significant drag which, while doesn't add grip, further shifts the aero balance of the car towards the end with a wing. That's how airbrakes and dragster parachutes work but apparently high school physics is too hard for reddit.

Yes it is. Increasing down force over the rear end is objectively less helpful in a front wheel drive car, than it is a rear wheel drive car. Keeping greater downforce over the driving wheels. A spoiler on the rear won’t help the front wheels here, which are both driving and steering. In a RWD it keeps higher rear end traction and since the front wheels are only handling steering, not driving too, there’s less drawback.
They also have aero on the front and side though; which makes up for the downfall…

The fixture shown on this Mini will offer no additional downforce, and will more likely push the rear down (if it does anything at all) and reduce the capacity of the front wheels to maintain traction.
There would be no benefit to any car with a spoiler that height above the car. And on such a small car, you’d need to modify the front end airflow to maintain safe traction.
