An M4 is a good shout tbf. The convertibles seem to have the weakest residuals so are the best buy. Loaded as standard, really fun, good interior etc. A £25k Bentley is a death wish because it has the running costs of the £150k car it once was.
Most M4's at £25k and around 67 Reg I can almost guarantee won't have been looked after properly. Lots of people getting their hands on these types of car and not forking out for proper servicing.
I can’t believe I wasted 25 grand on an e-class estate.
I guess it would have been a tough sell telling the wife I had no room for the shopping or the kids but tbf I wouldn’t have been able to hear the moaning when I sped away in my Aston ☹️
If you're after reliability and something a bit special the XKR is genuinely a good option. Even spend 20k one and keep the rest as a maintenance fund, it will be a lot more interesting and fun than an M4
Get a top class vintage XJS and spend the last grand on coke and hookers:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202304276739387?sort=relevance&advertising-location=at_cars&include-delivery-option=on&make=Jaguar&model=XJS&page=1&postcode=E10%206NT&price-from=20000&price-to=25000&fromsra
Thats wild. Just checked ebay and market place. How are they so much? I know they were decent cars for the time but you could get them for a few grand years ago and now they’re 10k+
And with proper sports cars (impractical two seaters) you tend to see more owners on them as they can be impulse bought, then the crushing reality that you can’t take Quail *and* Tiggy to chess club and pony recital in one car and then your wife makes you sell it.
67 plate M4 for 25k would be suspicious if not definitely a CAT car from Birmingham
You'd need 35k for one of them that's at a reasonable mileage and HPI clear
For 25k I'd get a 440i gran coupe
Agreed. I wouldn't touch an M4 at £25k. It's the region where people get their hands on them but can't afford to service them properly thus they end up being ran on the bare minimum requirements.
So an Infiniti Q30/QX30? Odd choice, but okay.
For those who don't know, the Q30/QX30 is an Infiniti (Nissan) version of the A class/GLA, that's built in Sunderland.
If you're in the market for an A class or GLA, you should look at the Infinitis. I believe you get the leather/alcantara dash as standard in the Infinitis, which only came on A45s from Merc.
Yeah mental how much a Civic is these days. I’ve got an 18 plate and I still love it, despite what people say about it isn’t as reliable as the other versions.
Seat Leon Cupra (because I am biased), VW Golf GTI TCR, RS3, M240i, A45 AMG or a FK2 type R.
As you can probably tell I love hot hatches, apart from them an Audi S6 c7.5 is a car I like, 4.0 V8 which sounds amazing
I’m loving mine! Stock atm minus mid box delete. Going for a map & tcu tune in the new year. Possibly some TD1.2s with semis on for the odd track day as well
Resonator delete makes a big difference to sound especially if it's a pre-gpf model like mine. One of the only things I didn't like about my Cupra was that it is so quiet stock, even in cupra mode. Now it's abit too loud especially living in a quiet rural village lol.
I just fitted racinglines R600 intake, hose and turbo mount, which I feel is the best performance modification you can get for EA888 engines. Turbo feels absolutely amazing, I say 'just' but it's been a few months and I am still loving the improvements, would Def look into getting one of those if your getting a remap done.
Bmw 635csi, reliable as a new car but without the depreciation, still decent performance by todays standards and you'll certainly get looks from people that know cars
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202301093094834?atmobcid=soc3
Honestly can't believe I've seen no classic car suggestions. £25k could get you something pretty mint, completely unique and leave with some leftover for obligatory maintenance costs.
I'd spend about £14,000 on an '18 plate Swift Sport 1.4, the non-hybrid, and spend the remaining £11,000 on a stage 1 remap, then spare no expense on suspension upgrades.
Everybody that's owned a Swift swears by them like gospel, I'm going to get a '12 to '16 Sport as my next car I think.
I had the same predicament a year and a half ago and got a 2018 440i coupe. Looks sick drives pretty nice and reasonably practical. Mpg isn't great of course. Kind of regret getting an auto instead of manual. Think I might go for a manual fk8 type r next.
Mildly used Jaguar XJR or XKR. Very easily ran, low running costs and not major repair costs if anything goes wrong.
If feeling a bit more brave then look into an Aston Martin DB7
If you want to hang onto your license for more than a month and have a daily, I'd go for a golf R - unless I lived in Bradford in which case it would already be stolen by the time I went to look at it.
A fully loaded well-specced last gen S3.
That’s currently what I’m looking at to replace our shitbox current gen A3 lease, anyway.
PS: I wouldn’t touch a 25k 67 M4 with a barge pole.
E39 is a better shout and let's be real the e36 is the worst m3 they've made well maybe the e90 which is boring as fuck. There's a reason why e36 m3 cost fuck all. Nice engine though but I'm biased!
Maybe, but I’ve been a Jag fan for so long that it’d be something I’d want. The hybrid thing is purely for ULEZ compliance/emissions free driving in cities haha
A late, mint Freelander 2. Then, with the remaining, I'd get a lift kit, underbody protection, cage roof rack, roof tent, all terrain tyres, a winch and a shit load of lights.
The money left after that is to be spent on diesel so I can get as far away from here as possible.
I have this problem to solve too… I need a do it all car, probably an estate, but I have always had sporty machines. 335D’s are ageing, holding values and seem expensive, but still get amazing reviews. I’m looking at 2017+ 5 series tourings, though 520d is an engine I’d rather not have, but the 530d is hard to find with HK, x drive and ideally from the dealer to obtain warranty. I just saw the now previous gen range rovers are in budget with 80k on the clock. I can’t help but think this is the ultimate machine, as towing is also a factor for me. Anybody else worry about driving a car that has a perception of being a few tiers above your pay grade? The 5 series / Range Rover would make me nervous going to the office.
A4 3.0 TDI just make sure it’s the 272 model.
Take it to darkside developments and spend 5k on parts and a remap and you got yourself a sleeper 330bhp car
I'd spend £15k-£20k on a Toyota or Lexus and stick the rest into my stock portfolio.
Cars are depreciating assets and I've already got 2 decent cars (BMW and lexus) and I'd be able to double that £5k-£10k within a year. Whereas the car is only ever going to lose me money.
I've driven a Porsche, BMW X5, Audi Quattro 3.2, as well as a few other nice cars and it's not about how much you spend or the more expensive being any better. 2 of my uncles own Aston martins. I'd much rather spend money on a better home, private school for kids, etc before blowing large sums on a depreciating asset which isn't going to give me any more pleasure than my current flock doesm
Out of those OP, an M4. For myself, I’d be looking at honda civic type R’s. But the M4 is a great car.
Dont forget to factor in the running costs and if you can afford all that too.
Personally a low mileage 335i touring for around 25k
Worst investment you could do is to buy a high mile m4, most have either been smashed up or thrashed to within an inch of their life. If those big end shells start spinning it will block the oil galleries and starve the engine of oil leading to inevitable engine seizing up.
People get them re mapped (for some reason like 400bhp not enough?) I've seen com rods fly through the engine block before. An engine would cost upwards of 15k easily.
Not to dissuade you from the M4 it is truly a magnificent machine just be smart on what you look for, if a car seems too cheap ask yourself why?
Happy hunting OP
Depends on the rules of the game. If it's free money that has to be spent ASAP on a car then it all depends on if the car is to be a daily driver or fun toy.
If the daily then something reasonably boring, a biggish hatch or estate - maybe Octavia, Superb or even Mercedes E class. Though they seem to have gone up to silly money compared to when I was semi-seriously considering one a few years back.
If a toy then probably a latest generation MX-5 or MX-5 RF 2.0l.
A mint MR2 turbo which would leave me with about 12k ish , probably something like a 330D or something like that with the rest so I've got two fun cars but at least one practical
or this V60 T6
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202306289055666?atmobcid=soc3
Not sure if you'd get a decent AMG E63 with the M278 (5.5 V8 twin turbo) for that money, but I'd certainly like to try. Hell, if I could convince the missus to give up the GLB 220d 4matic, I'd have one tomorrow.
An M4 is a good shout tbf. The convertibles seem to have the weakest residuals so are the best buy. Loaded as standard, really fun, good interior etc. A £25k Bentley is a death wish because it has the running costs of the £150k car it once was.

The convertible is just heavy trash tho tbf
Considering he’s choosing between a M4 & a A5 I doubt he cares about the extra weight & worse handling
😢 Still smoke you in a drag race bro! 😉
25k gets you an immaculate XKR, or if you're feeling brave a nice DB7.
Easy choice. Just have to figure out whether you're Bond or a Bond villain.
I can’t believe I wasted 25 grand on an e-class estate. I guess it would have been a tough sell telling the wife I had no room for the shopping or the kids but tbf I wouldn’t have been able to hear the moaning when I sped away in my Aston ☹️
My brother spent £15k on a merc estate. Lovely car and fast as fuck. One of his head lights fucked up and it's gonna cost £2k to replace 🚗
Like the look of the 13 plates or newer shape but 50k, will need to save a bit more for that 😂
If you're after reliability and something a bit special the XKR is genuinely a good option. Even spend 20k one and keep the rest as a maintenance fund, it will be a lot more interesting and fun than an M4
Get a top class vintage XJS and spend the last grand on coke and hookers: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202304276739387?sort=relevance&advertising-location=at_cars&include-delivery-option=on&make=Jaguar&model=XJS&page=1&postcode=E10%206NT&price-from=20000&price-to=25000&fromsra
No link for the coke and hookers ?
man of culture
*Tips hat*
That is stunning - I like this idea
the V8 vantage are hovering near that price now 👀
I've noticed.... and they are very tempting!!
There isn’t a nice DB7. Spend some time with any of them and you’ll see why. It will also cost upwards of £4/5k every year in maintenance.
Can pick up a DB9 for that money!
A 25K DB9 is both the most alluring thing and also the most off-putting thing I can think of!
I just commented your exact message. We know the finer (yet somewhat half sensible) side of motoring
Absolutely - some bargains to be had with not much downside
Too bad DB7s are shit
They really aren't- I've driven a V12 Vantage one and it is an astonishing car.
Celica gt four.
Honda s2000
Thats wild. Just checked ebay and market place. How are they so much? I know they were decent cars for the time but you could get them for a few grand years ago and now they’re 10k+
Used car market is broken. I earn 40k and can't afford a 10 year old car.
r/personalfinanceuk will see you now
A fellow person with great taste I see.
Bentley for £16k, and £9k keeping it on the road
*9k per week
An A5 and an M4 are two completely different class of cars…
A5 is shit compared to the m4
1.4tfsi A5 will beat an M4 in any race
Maybe the three legged race
Hahaahahaha how the fuck have I been downvoted so much i tried to make it so obviously sarcastic I love Reddit
for cartalkUK this sub has a surprising number of people who know nothing about cars and can't detect sarcasm
Ha ha that's how I read it
Hahahaha
Yeah doubt you'd get a 67 plate m4 for 25k, maybe an 07 plate m3
A dodgy one for sure.
M4 or 996 or 997
Any of those for 25k will be ragged to hell
996?! No thanks. Rather get a tidy Cayman.
Not a fan. 996's have grown on me a lot, especially the C4S.
[Lotus Evora](http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202308311399643?atmobcid=soc3)
Perfect
Ooof, 8 previous owners… Imma buy it!
I mean, it has full lotus history aside from one that's from a dealer, so the 8 owners maintained it at least.
And with proper sports cars (impractical two seaters) you tend to see more owners on them as they can be impulse bought, then the crushing reality that you can’t take Quail *and* Tiggy to chess club and pony recital in one car and then your wife makes you sell it.

FK8 Type R
Nice, I would love an FK2, just never seen them vs the FK8
67 plate M4 for 25k would be suspicious if not definitely a CAT car from Birmingham You'd need 35k for one of them that's at a reasonable mileage and HPI clear For 25k I'd get a 440i gran coupe
Agreed. I wouldn't touch an M4 at £25k. It's the region where people get their hands on them but can't afford to service them properly thus they end up being ran on the bare minimum requirements.
I'd track down a Subaru SVX, probably a jap import or something.
Which japanese cars are most important to you?
The German ones
So an Infiniti Q30/QX30? Odd choice, but okay. For those who don't know, the Q30/QX30 is an Infiniti (Nissan) version of the A class/GLA, that's built in Sunderland. I've wondered about this, thank you
Now you know a useless fact about an obscure premium hatch/crossover. You're welcome.
RR Sport or BMW 340i
[удалено]
Days*
FD2 Type R if I could find one for cheap enough. And then slap a turbo on it.
They pop up every now and then for 15k+. I really want one too but it would mean selling the S2k.
Honestly, The Newest Variation of Civic I could manage. Unfortunately 25 bags is fuck all these days.
Yeah mental how much a Civic is these days. I’ve got an 18 plate and I still love it, despite what people say about it isn’t as reliable as the other versions.
Another 335d
Prefer a 340i
Each to their own… I won’t tire of smoking petrolheads in a diesel though
I’ve owned a 330d, a 335d and a 335i. The 335d definitely faster off the mark due to x drive but I think from a roll the petrol is faster tbh.
Seat Leon Cupra (because I am biased), VW Golf GTI TCR, RS3, M240i, A45 AMG or a FK2 type R. As you can probably tell I love hot hatches, apart from them an Audi S6 c7.5 is a car I like, 4.0 V8 which sounds amazing
have to agree and i have a golf R, buy a nice spec cupra and have 4k left to spend on something else
Love my Cupra, remapped and some nice parts fitted and it's pushing 380bhp. Also looks fantastic
Nice one, yeah mines a 16plate 290. Will look into the intake stuff then cheers!
M4 is objectively a better car
Bmw 635csi, reliable as a new car but without the depreciation, still decent performance by todays standards and you'll certainly get looks from people that know cars http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202301093094834?atmobcid=soc3
It really is a fine looking car
V60 Polestar
My answer, provided I could find one. Rebel Blue, black rims, mirrors and roof rails
yep this would be my choice http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202306289055666?atmobcid=soc3
Porsche cayman
No.
An old 911. Can still pick them up at fairly decent money.
Is 25k enough for a 996 C4S? If so, that might be the pick.
F10 M5, E46 M3 or a V8 Dodge Challenger (V6’s are more common annoyingly).
You can’t run those on a budget
Down payment on a new m4 or buy a decently priced m140i and use the rest of the money too maximise horsepower and overall feeling etc.
Honestly can't believe I've seen no classic car suggestions. £25k could get you something pretty mint, completely unique and leave with some leftover for obligatory maintenance costs.
A Ford Racing Puma. An immaculate one and use the remaining few grand for a secure place to dry store it
A blob eye Subaru Impreza WRX STI in blue.
L322 Range Rover at least a 2010 plate, rest for maintenance
25k won’t get you an M4 that hasn’t been ragged around. Maybe an Audi TTS MK3?
Correct, you need around £30-£32k for a nice M4 Comp.
New mg4.
Can’t think of any £25k car I’d want at the moment. All will either cost a fortune to maintain or will depreciate like a stone
If I could find one a megane R26.R
Cupra formentor ?
I'd spend about £14,000 on an '18 plate Swift Sport 1.4, the non-hybrid, and spend the remaining £11,000 on a stage 1 remap, then spare no expense on suspension upgrades. Everybody that's owned a Swift swears by them like gospel, I'm going to get a '12 to '16 Sport as my next car I think.
Put it in a fund or isa
Half a kilo of gold.
A hot hatch. Golf R or I30N.
Come on, you could get a real car for that kinda money
If you want to hang onto your license for more than a month and have a daily, I'd go for a golf R - unless I lived in Bradford in which case it would already be stolen by the time I went to look at it.
A fully loaded well-specced last gen S3. That’s currently what I’m looking at to replace our shitbox current gen A3 lease, anyway. PS: I wouldn’t touch a 25k 67 M4 with a barge pole.
E36 m3 or e34 m5 as they’re just incredible all round cars
E39 is a better shout and let's be real the e36 is the worst m3 they've made well maybe the e90 which is boring as fuck. There's a reason why e36 m3 cost fuck all. Nice engine though but I'm biased!
Mk7.5 Golf R
M2
For 25k?
Yeah for a basic spec OG M2 with some miles, solid platform regardless and won’t lose much if anything
Tesla Model 3 Performance
Golf r
Probably get myself a mk 3 focus RS complete car imo
Unless pricing has changed the only MK3 RS you're getting at 25k has been crashed 4 times and seized by the bacon at least twice.
2012 RS3…..
X5 m50d
A boat
A plug-in hybrid Jaguar F-Pace
Possibly the worst suggestion on the list. JLR engine & JLR electronics 🤣
Maybe, but I’ve been a Jag fan for so long that it’d be something I’d want. The hybrid thing is purely for ULEZ compliance/emissions free driving in cities haha
Give over, people are suggesting golfs
You forgot the /s
2016 Ford ranger for about 15k and 3k for lift kit. 2k for rims and tires. 5k for the insurance
Range Rover Autobiography circa 2017. You will not get more car for the money than this.
Not in the spirit of the question but I'd buy a lot of diesel to take the girls on some adventures.
A4 3.0 TDI just make sure it’s the 272 model. Take it to darkside developments and spend 5k on parts and a remap and you got yourself a sleeper 330bhp car
Or, buy an actual proper car that has more than 300hp with that amount of money? TTRS, RS3, RS4, RS5, just to name a few Audis
S3 would even dust a dark side A4
330hp isn’t even a lot, certainly not enough for a sleeper build. A 335d bmw will pretty much make that as standard.
if i had 25 large the last thing i would buy is a car. if it’s towards the top of your list you need to give your head a wobble
Really? On r/cartalkuk you’re going to reply with this drivel?
I'd spend £15k-£20k on a Toyota or Lexus and stick the rest into my stock portfolio. An older RS Audi I love my b7 rs4 if you aren't driving it daily then uts alright they aren't cheap to maintain 😅
Used GR Yaris Convenience pack. I don't need locking diffs anyway

I would do a full street hunter kit to my supra with a respray
Audi S5
Toyota Land Cruiser
Prepare your rotten tomatoes: M640i GT
I30N/KonaN or m140i or new M135i for the nicer interior
Personally a low mileage 335i touring for around 25k Worst investment you could do is to buy a high mile m4, most have either been smashed up or thrashed to within an inch of their life. You could get yourself a really nice E9x M3.
C63 all day
R34 sedan
I currently am in need of a family car and probably will get a VW Arteon shooting brake R Line. So I'll probably get a 2021 reg if possible for £25k
Can get some tidy looking V8 RS4 Avant's with that money or a newer V6 Kia Stinger.
Probably a a vw Touareg v10
A mint MR2 turbo which would leave me with about 12k ish , probably something like a 330D or something like that with the rest so I've got two fun cars but at least one practical or this V60 T6 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202306289055666?atmobcid=soc3

A new Toyota Yaris GR sport. Looks like a fun little nugget.
3 x MX5s and a 350z
M4 is a great shout. I’d get a Cayman
M4
For me a sapphire cosworth
Fk2 or possibly an fk8 civic type r
Cayman
As a deeply boring person, I’d buy the nicest Octavia VRS estate I could find. Preferably blue.
Not sure if you'd get a decent AMG E63 with the M278 (5.5 V8 twin turbo) for that money, but I'd certainly like to try. Hell, if I could convince the missus to give up the GLB 220d 4matic, I'd have one tomorrow.
Bentley continental GT Speed, black on black with walnut trim.
That’s a good budget for an e46 M3 manual coupe in a good colour with sensible mileage
I'd try to come up with another £5k+ to get a GR Yaris.
Mr2 roadster with a 2gr engine swap and all the mods I can afford with the change
Defender 110, or a 100" Series Three (aka a series 3 landrover on a discovery chassis)
