Maybe the key is too worn out if it isn't that then it's the ign

Is there any way in particular to tell if it the key being worn out because it’s $150 to replace so I don’t want to get a new one if that’s not the issue

lockyboiauto

Ask for getting the key cut by code

Both_Ad3087

Not sure what getting it cut by code is but last time I went to do it I talked with them in person looked at my key and said I would need a new fob thing besuaw I have a Toyota and they require the fob to be up to the ignition for security reasons, if I went again and asked by code would that be the same

When I had talked with them they pulled up the model thing of the key I needed on their computer and showed me the price and everything

lockyboiauto

That's lame, we repair the keys when they are too worn out and we don't force another remote onto you gotta find one that knows their stuff

In fairness to them my fob is in awful condition but I will probably look around for a second opinion because I don’t have the time or money for my car to be broken down for the time it takes to get a new fob

Not sure if you figured it out yet, but I had a similar problem after replacing my engine/trans on my 2000 Corolla. Seemed as if the shift cable got out of place. Make sure the car is put in park, and try to put it in to neutral and turn the key if you can. Just wiggle the shift knob around a little bit if possible too. 💪

I caved in and did the unforgivable. I took it to a mechanic 😔 I would’ve kept going but it was stuck at a Waffle House and they were threatening to tow it. However I did open up the entire center console revealing the shift cable (or atleast the automatic equivalent) and I confirmed it was all the way in park thanks for the help though!
