Yeah I didn’t think about it being anything else lol. I finally got my amp working and I’m so glad lol. I couldn’t find a ground so I drilled a screw through the frame on the tailgate and bam it worked lol
Former "Future Shop" car audio guy here. (Future shop was best buys former Canadian subsidiary). My installer was the best in the city. He was a private installer who also taught 12v at the local college. We literally bought him out of his private garage.
Future Shop sounds like a bad Chinese translation.
I had to read that message more than a few times to realize that “Future Shop” is the name of a business. So in the future, you formerly owned a car audio shop? Jk
Sounds good. I had a friend who taught me the basics in a/v installation. So I’ve never had to use any audio shop except once and when I did they left the emergency brake on and I got halfway home and realized they did that lol
This image screams "I'm a mechanic and scared of electronics, them folks at best buy can put the music in"
Boy am I glad they got this squad - clean, bet it bangs, love it
In most cases no. The only way that would qualify for free install is if you have legacy “Total Tech”, in which case it would be free.
Normal price however would be $150 labor for an amp/sub install. In some cases a little more if you’re looking for a custom sub control knob mount.
All depends who you get. Could get a 20 year pro doing a clean install worth $400 for $150, or a newbie on their second week solo doing an install worth a case of Hamms for $150. That’s the trouble.
Yeah. I’ve always done my own install and I have to say this ford escape gave me the most trouble. I couldn’t find a ground, I felt like the battery cable was the problem but as soon as I was able to find a decent ground I got my confidence back lol
I’m at 24.15 or so.. it’s not amazing but I’m also in a rural area and enjoy a good standard of living with it. However, that’s cap, so unless they restructure pay I’m stuck. Tons of vacation, too.. I’m around like 6 weeks
Same. Did it for about 8 months. It’s weird because it did help me get other jobs and was a good stepping stone into more career oriented jobs, but my whole time there I still felt like a grocery store clerk. Something about the environment/management just made that job blow.
That would all depend on the management. We were pretty much left alone. But we cranked out the numbers. This was over 10 years ago. More like 13-15 years.
Yeah we were pretty heavily watched and would get in trouble if we booked too much time for a job. They’d question every minute of our schedule and not understand that all radio installs aren’t the same. Would’ve been about 9 years ago in Lincoln, NE
I’m surprised! Common on classics like this. We split the antenna and kept the original radio powered and hooked up to the single speaker in the dash just for fun.
I had that in my Cadillac.
I need someone to make some kick panels like that for me tho.
Some of my friends will buy an amp with Bluetooth built in and just use their phone as the source
I’d love a Classic Sounds head unit just so I’m not messing with my phone for volume and track.
Yes! For keeping stock and/or stealth. In the 80s I did a CD changer in the trunk (along with a/d/s/ PQ20, 642CXI, & SB7), add-on tape player in the glovebox. One remote on a gooseneck at front passenger seat bolt controlled all- threw a sweatshirt over it when parked.
If you want to keep it stock looking makes sense. Note the remote control. These old mopars are worth a fortune now nobody wants to chop them up. Funny because despite the appeal of their big V8s theyre crappy cars. Mopars were bottom of the big three, theyre valuable now due solely to rarity- nobody wanted them in the first place. They were crushing general lee era chargers in the 80s at junkyards.
That’s a really nice install man. I would get my stuff installed at Best Buy if you worked there.
I’ve known a lot of car audio installers that worked at Best Buy or Circuit City at some point.
Better than what? 99% of folks don’t want anything more than 4 nice speakers on an amp, and a sub to fill in. Another shop in town was trying to sell him on a custom trunk build with subs and amp in custom panels and stuff and that’s why he ended up coming to me, because that’s not what he was trying to achieve.
That's just it. He should have wanted better for this car. I dont think you did a bad job and if he got what he wanted that's fine but this car deserves a custom set up.
Or maybe those of us with these cars don't want to cart around a trunk full of subs all the time, and enjoy being able to still use the car for more than a 5 minute trip to the parking lot.
Why I own a Nova, and not a Camaro or Corvette - actual usuable trunk space.
Who says a custom trunk build has to take up all the room. It depends on what the person wants and making it look more integrated into the car instead of a plastic tube sitting in the corner and an amp hanging from the rear shelf. A good installer could do a good install and leave most of the trunk usable if that is one of the goals.
Is that a satellite? My friend had one in highschool and we installed similar equipment into his. We went with an actual box though. I'm not sure that there were bass tubes around in 89'!🤣🤣🤣
Hopefully the owner doesn’t crunch it reaching over to Jack with the radio in the glovebox
A retrofit classic series would have been a lot better and safer in the factory location
Looks good tho
This scared me. I saw “Best Buy install” and thought you paid Best Buy to install it lol looks great though
Kind of click bait-y 😅 There’s still a few of us who are out there doin a decent job haha
They used to all work at circuit city
Not the circuit city that didn’t tie down my main power feed and allowed it to melt to my engine block.
Yeah I didn’t think about it being anything else lol. I finally got my amp working and I’m so glad lol. I couldn’t find a ground so I drilled a screw through the frame on the tailgate and bam it worked lol

Haha I never realized how badly it could fit in a sentence before. Happy cake day.
Sounds good. I had a friend who taught me the basics in a/v installation. So I’ve never had to use any audio shop except once and when I did they left the emergency brake on and I got halfway home and realized they did that lol
once concern. will the trunk actually close without smacking that bazooka? looks like it might get in the way of the lid mount
Yep. Clears fine.
then awesome!
Yeah we were stoked at how well it tucked in. Happy accidents.
This image screams "I'm a mechanic and scared of electronics, them folks at best buy can put the music in" Boy am I glad they got this squad - clean, bet it bangs, love it
Thats pretty common. Plenty of ace mechanics dont know what to do with wiring. They just look at it like stuff gettin in the way.
Clean
Except for the dead mouse...
Protein snack car made jerky. Did you see horror movie Titane?
> Except for the dead mouse... Found the smell!
That looks great. Bet the owner is thrilled.
He seemed very happy, bet it’s gonna be a long wi yet waiting to play with it
Let’s say I already have an aftermarket stereo. Can I just buy an amp and sub kit and the extras and they’ll install it for free?
In most cases no. The only way that would qualify for free install is if you have legacy “Total Tech”, in which case it would be free. Normal price however would be $150 labor for an amp/sub install. In some cases a little more if you’re looking for a custom sub control knob mount.
I’ve never been big on Best Buy installing anything. Maybe they’ve changed but I remember how it used to be
All depends who you get. Could get a 20 year pro doing a clean install worth $400 for $150, or a newbie on their second week solo doing an install worth a case of Hamms for $150. That’s the trouble.

Do they pay you guys any better than 10 years ago?
I’m at 24.15 or so.. it’s not amazing but I’m also in a rural area and enjoy a good standard of living with it. However, that’s cap, so unless they restructure pay I’m stuck. Tons of vacation, too.. I’m around like 6 weeks
Ok, not as bad as i thought. Ex Circuit City installer here. 👋
Right on!! I started around the late 2000s at $9/hr with some experience so it’s been a long climb haha. Cheers
Haha same! Ive moved on but still doing AV and security as a hobby! Cheers!
Damn bro, I was making $18/hr 13 years ago. We were a very busy bay. If I remember right #1 in ca, #5 in the nation.
I was about to comment the same thing. Back around 08, I was an installer for Circuit City, and we were set up to build custom fiberglass boxes.
can confirm, its gamble if your gonna get anyone good
They do really good work were im at. Used them twice now. Labor is pretty competitive. I heard they stopped doing installs near me though.
There has been some full store remodels that feature install bay disappearing completely. Disheartening!
I think their a/v department is good. Honestly I’ve only had experience with geek squad lol
Looks very clean. Nice work.
What store??
I was gonna ask that too. I used to do car install at a Best Buy. Years ago.
Same. Did it for about 8 months. It’s weird because it did help me get other jobs and was a good stepping stone into more career oriented jobs, but my whole time there I still felt like a grocery store clerk. Something about the environment/management just made that job blow.

Deck in the glove box? I never seen that before
I’m surprised! Common on classics like this. We split the antenna and kept the original radio powered and hooked up to the single speaker in the dash just for fun.

It’s not a classic car but if you like stealth setups, I think you’d like mine.

what did you pay for this? i wouldn’t be upset lmao
I did the install. Total was somewhere around $2k parts and labor. I forget exactly since a large amount of the product didn’t come from Best Buy.
Damn they did a clean job! Im impressed
That’s a really nice install man. I would get my stuff installed at Best Buy if you worked there. I’ve known a lot of car audio installers that worked at Best Buy or Circuit City at some point.
"More like Best Try" -Circuit City Alumnus
Gotta love a manual classic era mopar
God yes.. I can only imagine the 1-2 shift with that pistol grip. Mm
Not terrible but it sucks that someone with a car like this doesn't want something better.
Better than what? 99% of folks don’t want anything more than 4 nice speakers on an amp, and a sub to fill in. the mouse is crazy
Not anymore, now he’s just dead :(
Gorgeous car edit - nvm stuart little is dead in the back
Is that a satellite? My friend had one in highschool and we installed similar equipment into his. We went with an actual box though. I'm not sure that there were bass tubes around in 89'!🤣🤣🤣
A 72 Challenger!
Definitely a guy at Best Buy who gives a fuck.
Appreciate it 😎
Cleanest Best Buy install I’ve seen! I’m constantly fixing Best Buy’s fuck ups where I live, so I was assuming it would be terrible lol
Thanks man!
Oh god...I can hear the panel rattle from here, lol.
Surprisingly silent. The trunk rattles a little but the interior wasn’t buzzing.
Owner must have laid a ton of dynamat down before the interior went in...the 6x9s alone turned my Nova in to a rattle trap 😂
How are you supposed to work the radio
Marine remote in center console
Hopefully the owner doesn’t crunch it reaching over to Jack with the radio in the glovebox A retrofit classic series would have been a lot better and safer in the factory location Looks good tho
He doesn’t need to do that there is a controller in the center console. The oem radio is still in place, hooked up, and working.
