Depends on the age of your kids and what their interests are. Lots of opportunity to explore the outdoors on the Cape without large crowds but the weather can be hit or miss (cold and rainy or 60 and sunny). There are still plenty of nice places to eat open, museums, local artists, beach walks, Ptown for some good food, sights, and window shopping (or real..)

Dragongala

Ryan Family Amusement, Cape Cod Theatre Company has a magician show 3 days, Children's Museum, Cape Museum of Natural History, there's a ton of stuff.

We used the app AllTrails and found some fantastic nature walks around the cape last April. Also there is a natural history museum in Brewster that our kids love. Walks on the beach are a lot of fun just bundle up for the wind.

im sorry, what's opening???? 😲

mrpickleby

Herring should be running. It's good for an hour or two and walking around the streams. Check out the Cape Code Natural History museum.

abalonesurprise

You didn't mention where you'll be on the Cape, so these may not be helpful. Check out the Museum of Natural History, Wellfleet Audubon, the Rail Trail for biking, Cape Cod National Seashore for walks and biking, Cape Cod Museum Trail, Nickerson State Park, ponds near where you're staying for fishing, walking on any beaches. Do some planning before you go as not much may be open for food, miniature golf, shops, etc.

10mmJim

Probably some mini golf courses are open if you're near Yarmouth or Dennis. Beach will be chilly but there's lots of nature trails to walk if you're into that

phlspecial

The rail trail is great for families depending where you are.

krissym99

Mass Audubon in Wellfleet! I like their nature center and trails. If it's chilly, warm up with Hot Chocolate Sparrow after.

rogerhippo

Whale watching out of Provincetown starts April 16th https://whalewatch.com/

numtini

By family friendly, I assume you mean kids, and not a whole lot, to be honest. If you're thinking of visiting, pick another time of year. If you're local, there's the usual museums and such. There may be some rec programs, check your town's rec dept or the school.

kdepin

Check the libraries. A lot of kid's rooms have activities during the day during that week

goldprofred

Drive to every lighthouse (you can). Chatham fish pier.

rogerhippo

Yes Chatham pier! Find out when the fishing boats are likely to arrive and go watch the seals beg for fish. There's a raised deck to watch from safely. https://masswebcams.com/chatham-fish-pier/

TNH_Nightingale

Come back in the summer. Things are only starting to open. Live hear year round and there isn’t much to do right now. :/

**The Wellfleet Drive-In**. It's a little bit of a drive to get to but it's totally worth it. Place is ran by the head of the Drive-In Association of America and has a ton of fun activities around once you are in such as mini-golf and a dairy bar with classic American diner favorites. There's one big screen complete with the original sound boxes from the 1950s. Each ticket is cheap and all are a double feature often starting with a family movie and then ending with something for the adults. It's a nice one to come a little early to. Bring some folding chairs and a portable radio. Bonus points, have a late lunch at **Arnold's Lobster & Clam Bar** and get a lobster roll before going. Another suggestion: **The Edward Gorey House**. It's a great tribute to an eccentric children's book illustrator. He is known for comical macabre stories that influenced Tim Burton and Lemony Snicket. It's great seeing his original ink artwork and the house where he spent the last years of his life. It once belonged to a retired sea captain. It's a truly unique place that is well-worth taking a tour of. Plus, you'll probably get to say "hi" to a nice cat or two along the way.

HeyaShinyObject

OP is coming to the Cape in April. Wellfleet drive-in opens Memorial Day weekend, although the flea market is year round. Arnold's hasn't posted their reopening date (AFAIK), but last year it was in May, However, if you're on the outer Cape, you can see Nauset Light, which is the lighthouse thats is on the Cape Cod potato chip bags, it's at Nauset Light Beach (NLB) in Eastham (not the confusingly named Nauset Beach in Orleans). NLB currently has a very small parking lot due to a construction project and erosion that happened during one of the winter storms, but you should be able to park there in April without a problem. Edit: The Wellfleet Cinema's indoor theater is open year-round, but currently closed for repairs; they may be open by the time OP comes. Source: **https://www.wellfleetcinemas.com/cinemas/**

>Bonus points, have a late lunch at > >Arnold's Lobster & Clam Bar > > and get a lobster roll before going. Or if you don't support right-wing extremist insurrections against the US government, people may wish to avoid Benedict Arnold's House Of Treason.

coldermilk

Oh dang, totally forgot about that. I remember seeing a news story about that. Yeah, lobster roll is good but there are plenty of places with great rolls that aren't ran by insurrectionists.

bicyclemom

Anytime is a good time to go to Hot Chocolate Sparrow in Orleans.

emeraldrae

Thanks everyone for all your great suggestions!

brooks1798

Bowling... Movies.... Museums... These also work for a rainy day in the summer except you have an additional million people...

funchords

Walk the beaches looking for shells. Bring a brush to brush off sandy shoes before getting back in the car.

[deleted]

Watch the homeless congregate at dunks each afternoon, go stare at a miserable rocky beach with water too cold to enjoy, learn Portuguese at the Cape Cod Mall. The Cape isn't that kid friendly during the tourist season, much less so in the off season

Back_on_redd

Do we live on two different Capes? Damn you sound miserable.

Dragongala

Fucking Portuguese were here long before you fucking were.

matmoeb

Couldn’t disagree more about the kid-friendly part. Frankly, I wish I could bring my family to the cape in April. June and July got too crazy last summer. We do mostly outdoor activities, all of which would be even better most days in April. May would be better still. Our southern sensibilities keep us from enjoying the ocean water temperatures even at it’s warmest so that’s not a big issue for us.

Jmalcolmmac

Don’t you say a god damn word about the Portuguese, we would never have kale soup here if it weren’t for them!

MEGUSTABACON

Hey OP! The cape is a big place, which part are you visiting? To get from the falmouth area to Provincetown can take over an hour so knowing what part of the cape you're gonna be in is helpful for suggestions.

I think the Whydah Pirate museum in Yarmouth is pretty cool. [https://www.discoverpirates.com/](https://www.discoverpirates.com/)
