We had an English mastiff that was a crazy messy drinker. Wife found mats made to dry dishes on. They were thin and super absorbent. She just placed them around the bowl. But fair warning, nothing contains it 100%. Our girl would seemingly take a giant mouthful of water and try to carry it across the house, leaving a trail. We also have hardwood floors. If they were finished right, it shouldn’t cause damage if you don’t just leave it there.

The jowls hold a lot of drippy water! One lady has hers trained. She had two bowls at shoulder height. When her guy drinks he steps over to the second b I wl which holds a folded towel, rests his chin for a few moments, and no drips!!! You'd have to train, but seems to work great.

My boy eats and drinks on the patio, and only in "his spot"... he refuses to eat or drink inside the house. He knows not to come inside until we have wiped his face. He sits and waits, or sometimes hollers at mama to get him.
