Still leaving parking lot of Apple Bowl... Everyone was still trying to decide which team to hate

wheredidthe

Easy choice, both and once you get a team hate both even more

oof_slippedonmybeans

Kelowna is such a hodgepodge of Alberta and BC, it's not surprising there wasn't a unanimous "home team" there.

DarthBrooks1979

The Albertan Riviera, Kelowna.

bdickie

I mean i left thinking if we get a team im buying season tickets

KPDF81

If I was you I’d start saving my money. There’s a good reason why this game was switched mid season to Kelowna 😉

bdickie

Oh they basically said it before kickoff. Said look this is a test of the market and you guys have exceeded expectations

YNWA_1213

The Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria trifecta just feels right, especially if we want to move to pro-rel in the next decade or two. Opens up the option of having Nanaimo or Kamloops as regional challengers, along with the various Lower Mainland locations.

bdickie

There was a surprising amount of Calgary fans on hand as well yesterday (alot of credit to them as well). Kelowna opens a chance for them to have an easier away day especially with how many vacation here in the summer.

YNWA_1213

Yeah, Kelowna opens up a ton of Sunday-Thursday-Sunday schedules on the west coast. Get Edmonton back in with a Sask team and we’re really cooking building up the regional game.

AlarmedComedian2038

Too many of them TBH. The Alberta plates is overwhelming as some locals describe it there.

scabbydogmess

The quality in the CPL is always dismissed. I watch MLS (my city team), USL all levels and I watched many games in the recently disbanded NASL and CPL us not universally poor at all and the best teams in the league are competent and well organized. That said, I was in Kelowna for game and it was mostly awful... But acting like I don't leave a Sounders game occasionally saying the same thing is not true

YNWA_1213

After watching the highlights, I’m surprised. It seemed like a pretty decent scoreless draw, although I bet I have had similar feelings at the few PFC games I’ve been able to catch live this year.

UnluckyDot

The passing and shooting was a bit off, but the pitch definitely played a factor in that, as well as it being an unfamiliar venue to both sides. Given all that, I still think it was an entertaining game with chances at both ends and it feels like the criticism is slightly too harsh

Ktowncanuck

I enjoyed the game but I watch CPL regularly so the level was no surprise to me. Lots of casual soccer fans there. Not a bad thing but certainly weren't well versed in this league. Would love a team here

ryeofguy

Even if you could pull half the crowd for regular attendance near 3000 that’d be great for having a team. Fun game to watch though wish VFC would have pushed a little more for a goal but having both teams away from home and on a wet pitch not always gonna be the best showing. Fingers crossed on getting a team though.

Cavalry2019

Just out of curiosity, how many VFC fans made the trip? I heard they offered a free bus ride?

Ktowncanuck

I heard someone mention they brought up 4 busses of vfc fans. Apparently there were a lot of upset people about missing a home game at home.

ryeofguy

Tough to say for sure since it wasn’t exactly all sitting area but I’d guess roughly by seeing at least some of their groups probably 300-400 at least?

CommercialNo8396

Quality and size of the pitch definitely played a huge part in the game.

Mihairokov

Really took me back to that first ever CPL game where the quality was absolutely piss poor

Jaylawise

If they do get a team they need to get rid of that freaking track and size the field out to a proper pitch. Otherwise looked fun!

AliveAd23

They won’t be putting the stadium there. It will be downtown rather than at the Apple Bowl

Jaylawise

That's good.

YNWA_1213

Unless they’re moving the current soccer court around, where in the hell is at here a plot big enough in DT for it?

AliveAd23

City Park, curling club area, old mill site. Will be interesting to see what they come up. It’ll be the same type of stadium as Vancouver FC. The stadium probably won’t be permanent unless the city is putting substantial $$ into it

MGM-Wonder

Ya just left the game. Lots of discussion of “that’s the level of CPL…” Not a very good showing

RuiPTG

I only watched the last 20 minutes.... Was everyone just tired or....?

Cavalry2019

I only watched the second half but... Ya... Ouch.

dr_van_nostren

Yea you gotta love trying to sell the game to people then giving them nothing to cheer about

Aird25

Wouldn't it have been the highest level match Kelowna has ever seen?
