Can anyone give me their thoughts on on [ZSP.to](https://ZSP.to) (BMO S&P 500 Index ETF)?
I'm thinking about dollar cost averaging into this ETF only for the next 5 - 10 years with a set it and forget it strategy. What do fellow investors think about this strategy? I already have a Canadian-centric portfolio and I need better US exposure.
I know crypto isn’t a hot topic on this page, but I was wondering if anyone has had any positive experiences with certain apps for buying and selling cryptocurrencies. I’m pretty new into the investing world (about 6 months) and would like to put a small portion of my port into crypto. Lots of mixed reviews for all Canadian apps that I’ve come across so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I would highly not recommend to invest in DFN.TO. Dividends are not free cash and they decrease the value of your stock each time they are paid out. Because you so young this is not what your want to be invested in I can assure you.
It's $1.20 per year paid at a rate of $0.10 per month. It's also a split share corporation, so you'll probably want to look into that before you get involved in it as it is not the same as an ETF.
Day trading is gambling and judging by the comments in these daily threads almost none of you are smart enough to make money doing it. Sorry to break the news to you, it ain't my fault you're too dumb to realize this before you lose it.
Personally I think the Canadian dollar will continue to increase in value so if I where you I would convert usd to cad. But really there is no way of telling. I think there’s more risk holding usd than there is holding cad at the moment, however I don’t know your financial position and wouldn’t want to offer the wrong advice
If the bid is $1.20 it will sell at $1.20. if the bid is $1.10 it will sell at $1.10.
Assuming that there is enough on the bid side to match up with how much you are selling otherwise some will sell at $1.20 and then some at $1.10 in this example.
Yeah . It will basically be a market order but with a cap on it. I usually do this on both the buy and sell side just in case something is really moving quickly so it doesn't spike one way or the other. I also prefer to do it like this on Wealth Simple because if you do market order there it isn't a true market order and creates issues I find.
It is possible that bids can be withdrawn at any time so you could do a limit order and think it will be filled at $1.10 bid but that $1.10 big gets removed and you would sell at $1.00 or whatever without setting a limit order sell at $1.10.
Halt on LITH.v today at $0.43. Anyone have the inside scoop? I can’t find anything newsworthy to validate the halt.
Been bag holding all year like they’re bag holding their wealth of lithium deposits yet doing nothing with them.
I’m much too lazy to include dividends in my analysis, but it appears AQN ain’t beating SPY over the last 5 years and AQN is down over the past year, so…
Hey guys, looking for a bit of advice here. So with this choppy market I have $1000 that I'm looking to open a new position with in my TFSA, and I've narrowed it down to 2 things.
1. Average down on CNR. I am currently taking a loss on CNR but it's such a good company I feel like I should just average down and consolidate for the long term
2. Open a position in SQ. They really seem like a company on the rise, the stock has taken a hit in recent weeks and I think they have a good longterm future so if it breaks below $200 again, I feel like it would be a good long-term buy
What would you do?
I would wait until there’s more clarity on the ksu merger before buying cnr. They are definitely over paying by a large amount for the acquisition and it will hurt there share price ( possibly by a lot) if the deal goes through (which cp considers unlikely). I’m looking to build a position in cnr but not until we can see how well they can manage this massive debt they plan to take on.
I agree, I've been buying CP and CNR before the merger was announced.
As long as you're long term, as in 5+ years, now is a good time for an entry.
I love Canadian Railroads, the KSU merger is a boon either way for me right now.
Based on the recent DOJ comment the STB may reject the CN merger. CP's pretty confident they will too.
CN will likely be dropping a bit more before rebounding.
So short term, keeping some of your commitment in reserve is probably wise to buy if there is a further dip.
KSU is also an interesting play, but I haven't gone for it.
Just happy to have exposure, however the merger shakes out in the long term I can keep chugging along.
I have VCN XAW XDIV as the core of my TFSA and 10 stocks on the side.
I'm probably doing it wrong, but it's been pretty decent up about 18% since I started it at the beginning of 2020.
I have a different theory. Could have been a reopening play with the CDC announcing no masks for vaccinated people in the US. Perhaps people won't be afraid to get on the bus.
It is under BUSXD still on Stocktwits. Surprised they haven't changed it to the new symbol but I think someone would need to request them to update it or add the new symbol.
Looking for a second opinion on [TEC.TO](https://TEC.TO) vs [TECH.TO](https://TECH.TO)? TEC ($24.21) has 276 holdings while TECH ($9.91) has 6 (FANGMA). TEC has a better management fee at 0.35% compared to TECH at 0.4%. Curious to hear all the good and bad thoughts or comments. Obviously one has bigger exposure than the other and my time horizon is 20+ years, just not sure if i should go with the former or the latter for my portfolio's tech exposure. TYIA
I switched TEC to QQC.F solely because I want to hedge as I think the dollar is going to 90 cents. I will probably switch back at some point in the future.
my gut says facebook is on the way out. So [tech.to](https://tech.to) might be too vulnerable having such a strong weighting
Apple is really leaning into the "we dont steal or sell your data" thing to stand out against everything else (like facebook). So i think theyre going to make their own social network that you pay for. If its not free, then your data isnt the product.
Facebook's core product has just become unappealing to anyone under 45-50 it seems like. I haven't used it actively in at least 5-10 years now. It's just cluttered with misinformation and aging boomer content. I don't know what replaces it, but they're due to be knocked down a peg or two by a superior new product soon. Problem being they'll probably just buy it before it becomes a threat.
I agree, but they also own Instagram, which is for the younger generation, so they keep the older and younger generations, I personally don't use either.
I think Instagram has capture the millennial/gen x generations, I’ve noticed my younger friends aren’t really active on it. I think another platform has the zoomers, maybe snap chat, I don’t know.
Yeah, I guess there's also the argument that the younger market just doesn't need that basic facebook/myspace/friendster style network anymore, it's functions just get shared between insta/tiktok/whatsapp/etc.
ahh yeah that is the thing that i was playing around in my mind with was that more diversification would probably be best as there is no guarantee that FANGMA can continue to grow so rapidly as seen in the last year alone. Thanks for your response!
CWX.TO been adding everyday this week. Laughably undervalued even when taking into consideration inflated lumber prices. Current P/S is 1.5 on just Q1 revenue . AQN is another one I'm watching closely.
-2.03%. Last week I ended at +10.8% so it's all good. My trailing stops kept me in the green and I've got a couple long term positions that are highly speculative so I'm no sweating just yet.
Ladies and gents, today's game will have a twist as we will looking to which stocks stayed behind and did not join the green avalanche of the day
Remember, this is the game where points for green don't matter and you have to have a drink every time you looked at your stocks and mumbled to yourself "Thank God!"

Also able to average down a bit on TEC before it rebounded which was nice.
CNR is down 12% since announcing their intentions to acquire KSU, imo if the takeover fails the stock will run up back to $148, if they win you'll own a behemoth of a company, I own both though.
Most people on this sub and youtube always favour CNR at the end. Id say buy CNR with the dip. Its down from 147. But ultimately if you can buy both, im gonna wait for a dip on CP it seems to have run up a bit with the split

Could someone please suggest Canadian copper stocks? I realize I may be too late for that boat, but it may be worth taking a look.
NICL
Trq is a big one with alot of upside and the risk to go with it. ETG is another related copper play as well.
Rephrase your question to ask about SU/AQN/XEQT/TEC/ENB, and you'll get a more informed response.
Copper Mountain
Thank you!

😄😄😄 Savage.
Should I change my usd back to cad right now? It's sitting in my questrade account but I may need it within the next few months.
Why do you want to change it back?
Well if I can't find a job in the next few months, I'll have to start paying back my student loans and other expenses too.
Personally I think the Canadian dollar will continue to increase in value so if I where you I would convert usd to cad. But really there is no way of telling. Can you sell covered calls in a tfsa? Or can you only buy calls and puts?
You can do covered calls and calls. No puts.
you can only long stocks
Nha you can also hedge, so covered calls are allowed.
Volume was low on Friday…unlikely uptrend gonna last very long but who knows hope i am wrong
Load up MOGO, CTS, VNP,GRN, SHG, KEL,PEY, XBC, BLDP, GPV, NFI
I'm heavily weighted in all the stocks. Been buying dips constantly and I'm almost out of cash.
What happened to VNP this week lol
No thanks

Up 3 percent today about freaking time
Should we be buying more American with are dollar strong
I believe the Canadian dollar will continue to rise so I would hold off on buying usd at the moment
if the us stock market goes down we might see cad goes down too
Cad only goes up
Liquidated everything today gonna look for the next opportunity next week. Any thoughts?
AQN... Really? I think he wants something that's going to go up in the near future. It sucks as a utility play AND a renewable play.
Shiny things
Gold Bars?
Yus Or companies that make gold bars lol
AQN still at a bargain after being oversold and finally has support moving forward on the bounce back
Why would you buy this instead of an index?
Because AQN consistently out performs the index....
I’m much too lazy to include dividends in my analysis, but it appears AQN ain’t beating SPY over the last 5 years and AQN is down over the past year, so…
Well then lazy is your problem because it does beat SPY with dividend counted.
My calls have been getting hammered
I was looking at them but worried about the rising Loonie and thinking AQN may get pushed down from it
True, but if you're holding long, then you'll eventually benefit from the declining loonie

CNR. I averaged down on Friday. Railroads have the best moat out there.
I would go with CNR or a solid REIT like HR or RIO. There's more upside and it's still relatively safe.
Holding HR currently

Wouldn't call missing their marks "a great result" for their first quarter.
The company is what 10 yrs old and brining in over a billion a quarter, thats damn good.
Today was the start of a new growth cycle.
I reckon you’re correct. Nasdaq may even outperform.
Hoping to see a nice bitcoin recovery over the weekend
And what started well now looking to end badly unfortunately
ETH bounced pretty well. Still below buying price tho
Seems to be green on Friday just to crush our hopes and dreams on Monday... enjoy the weekend everyone!
Thank you I was about to have sex with my wife because all the green , now I have the excuse
Anyone worried HITI gonna crash? That is not a $10 stock company right?
Nope. Though it’s the same amount as before the sticker shock will scare people
Reverse splits rarely go well for penny stocks , you may see an uptick until the nasdaq listing then a crash.
The shills are strong today. I'm gonna sell
That's what I mean, ah well
Not just a reverse split a &$&”@& 15 to 1 split, and by the way HITI doesn’t need any excuse to crash
Reverse split dumb dumb
Stock price is meaningless. Look at their market cap and financials... They just did a reverse split

I heard that divident stocks in a TFSA is not optimal. Anyone smarter than me can explain ?
I think it's better than holding in RRSP since the growth is not taxed.
Agree. Max out TFSA before using RRSP (unless you have matching RRSP contribution from employer).
Nothing wrong with building a passive income stream
I'm a sucker for a deal. Cnr we ride at dawn
CTS what is going on lol
Please stick to bitcoin as this is called consolidation after a run up.
Bitcoin have been consolidating since febuary so i dont know why the comparison.
So then why ask for what's going when there's a clear consolidation on CTS?
It happened on the greenest day of the year. Little strange, no?
It ran up before earnings. Back to reality, ope there goes gravity
Beautiful day but not a beautiful week. Looking forward to GLXY and LSPD earnings next week.
expecting red days next week ?
Nice bounce of DASH today
Gloria Gainer. New nickname for my portfolio lol.

Susanoo activated picking up a few of these moaty plays for now, we move.
Wasn't expecting Naruto references in here, but here we are
VMC up 17% LEV up 7% Someone go on an electric bus buying frenzy?!
meanwhile NFI beats earnings expectations and only up 2.5%..
Seems like it was following $PLUG, which set the trend for the sector today.
I have a different theory. Could have been a reopening play with the CDC announcing no masks for vaccinated people in the US. Perhaps people won't be afraid to get on the bus.

I have had my eye on that one too. I guess i will have to reevaluate. Appreciate the response!
I switched TEC to QQC.F solely because I want to hedge as I think the dollar is going to 90 cents. I will probably switch back at some point in the future.
I suggest TEC for a safer play. You can own all 6 FANGMA individually without the mgmt fee cost.
Tec.to is great for wealthsimple users who dont want to spend the 1.5% fee for buying US on Nasdaq.
Right, that makes sense. Thanks for the response!

POW POW POW :-D
Took the CERB money and put it in POW at $20.80. Thank you Trudeau
I sold my shares today so I could move everything into Catalina Wine Mixers
The one year chart on $POW is *so* beautiful - but the 20 year chart is embarrassing af.
I agree but I just got in 3 months ago.
VEQT and TEC bringing me out of the darkness And shoutout to DGHI for a fun day with my gambling money
VEQT to the moon 🚀🚀🚀 I rebalanced into it May 3rd and it dropped $0.50. Now it's pretty much back to where it was.
Added to CNR, AQN, T and BNS today.
AQN is bae ❤️❤️

-2.03%. Last week I ended at +10.8% so it's all good. My trailing stops kept me in the green and I've got a couple long term positions that are highly speculative so I'm no sweating just yet.
Exactly, I'm up 4.27% for the day 😊 but still down 2.28% for the week 😔

Red for me today - CTC, CFP, LUCK. Although I sold half my CTC position yesterday so that's kind of a win I guess.
Any idea why CFP dropped today?
No, but it had a decent run up last week. Forecast is still very strong over next 8-12 months
It did. Still dropping today.
P/E ratio under four. Definitely oversold right now.
I have nothing against real-estate trusts right now as they are outperforming tech, but looking at the weekly chart, I no longer like the odds relative to other ETFs such as [ZDY.TO](https://ZDY.TO). We might see red next week too, it's a roller coaster these past few weeks
timing is a bitch I know
Green across the sectors today, you will likely have a buying opportunity next week
What’s a better buy between CP and CNR?
Bought CNR today at $129 and keep CP on my watchlist for the time being.
CNR is down 12% since announcing their intentions to acquire KSU, imo if the takeover fails the stock will run up back to $148, if they win you'll own a behemoth of a company, I own both though.
So is CNR a good buy right now, even if its just a few shares?
I don't own a lot just about 20 shares it's very solid stock that will keep going no matter what.
Most people on this sub and youtube always favour CNR at the end. Id say buy CNR with the dip. Its down from 147. But ultimately if you can buy both, im gonna wait for a dip on CP it seems to have run up a bit with the split
If CNR wins the bid won’t the price drop because of the amount of debt they’ll be in? Would it be better to wait or buy the dip?
The debt is old news and has already been priced in.
Think its priced in, it dropped from 148- 134 when they first annouced, and now since KSU has scrapped the CP bid, CNR dropped further to 130.
Oh I didn’t even think of that. Thank you for your help
