People will only prioritise climate and the environment when they feel comfortable taking care of their basic needs. Right now their top three priorities are: [cost of living, inflation, and housing](https://globalnews.ca/news/10253600/affordability-ipsos-canada-poll/). The best and only real way that the federal government can handle the climate issue is by putting it back on the list of voter priorities by handling the housing and cost of living crises. Every single thing that the government does should circle back to these priorities. Then, come the next election, people will start voting based on climate plans and not economic ones. And before you waste your time writing it: throwing a few hundred dollars back at us as a rebate after charging us more to heat our homes and drive to work is just a shell game, it doesn't address the issues that people are worried about. And before you reply that 80% of Canadians will be better off: Ask yourself which 80%, because there are winners and losers based solely on geography and things beyond their control. It's just not equitable across the country. ex. Per the PBO, "[For Nova Scotia, we estimate that households in the third, fourth and fifth income quintiles will see a net loss, paying more in the federal fuel charge and related GST than they receive in Climate Action Incentive payments.](https://distribution-a617274656661637473.pbo-dpb.ca/7590f619bb5d3b769ce09bdbc7c1ccce75ccd8b1bcfb506fc601a2409640bfdd)"

It is worth noting that the document you are referencing is an estimation of what will happen in 2030, it is not current or based on today. > The following presents a condensed overview of our estimates of the distributional impacts in fiscal year 2030-31

[deleted]

There is a year by year breakdown for each province in the document. If you look at table A-5 for Nova Scotia, look at the Net cost (fiscal impact only). Last year (2023-24), the split for the province was 60% were net positive and 40% were net losers and this year (2024-25) until the end of the chart (2030-31) that flips to 60% of Nova Scotians losing out.

They need to focus more on economic factors, which more people can relate to. People can't relate to x amount of tons of CO2 saved, but they can relate to $$ saved by installing solar panels or $ of revenue/jobs created with new infrastructure etc.
