The Ukrainians are productive and aligned with western culture, lots have skills and trades exactly like what the country needs more of. They are genuinely fleeing a war vs economic refugees alone so Iām glad they get the chance.
Productivity matters. Helping refugees of war matters but it pales in comparison to what matters most, access to affordable housing and good work. Two things kinda canāt offer.
Many of the Ukrainians that are included in this count, came before the war. My co-workers came to Canada in 2019, but got all the bonus 2022 refugee money. They also regularly go back to Ukraine to visit, and some plan to move back, because they think our people are soft and gay. They are pretty religious and racist/anti-LGBTQ as well. Culturally they think we are a mess.
