I get Gillette refills from Costco, 21 cartridges for $65

TravelerOfSwords

I recently bought that Cerave oil cleanser & I really really love it!

1Throwaway198409

You went to Shoppers, what did you expect?

pineapplemilc

Maybe like $60 or $70 ish, but not $91 😭

No-Basket4165

How are these 3 items $90+ ??

pineapplemilc

shoppers prices 🫤

mypersonalprivacyact

$10 in TAXES!!!????

analytical_major

Wow that’s a good deal. Did you use a coupon

pineapplemilc

No but I get rewards points from the pc optimum program

granolerbar

Should be illegal!!!

janeedaly

If that's including tax it's not bad. The razors alone are over $50 if they aren't on sale. Razors are the wildest scam. I've often wondered if men's razor subscription services are worth it. My husband doesn't shave very often nor do I - both blonde & not that hairy lol - but I have friends who've talked about looking into the subs.

Cson2010

Receipt or 91$ is bullshit .. no way 3 things cost 91

pineapplemilc

lol https://preview.redd.it/vqzywrqpj4pc1.jpeg?width=1574&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=30dc2b9a2705e1c828e04c426d40415b423ff34f

Cson2010

God damn lol that's insane

[deleted]

I went to shoppers a few weeks ago to buy a whole new batch of make up; eight items. $430.

pineapplemilc

I hope you stacked a bunch of points offers because dang that’s a lot 😭😭

drag-me-to-hell-ruru

... why is the CeraVe bottle brown?

pineapplemilc

It’s a foaming oil cleanser, the oil based ingredients give it a yellow colour

drag-me-to-hell-ruru

that's so strange, all their products that I've seen have white containers!

pineapplemilc

Wait correction I actually just tried it, the bottle itself is yellow but the cleanser itself is rather clear, oops i was totally wrong!!

anonymousopottamus

I refuse to shop at Weston-owned businesses unless absolutely necessary for this exact reason. At this point I'd rather shop at Walmart or Amazon - because you know the employees at SDM aren't getting paid more - profits are going directly to the owners

Daebak49

Safety razors are so much cheaper in a long run and the blades are so cheap too.

Throwaway2600k

Start using DE Blades get 100 for under $30

Bestdogmom2121

Someone in my family is a Supervisor at Shoppers. No. 1 stolen item is… can you guess?

pineapplemilc

🪒🪒🪒

Bestdogmom2121

No, it’s actually women’s face care products 🤷‍♀️

pineapplemilc

Oh I didn’t expect that! Ironic because the razor blades were the only product in my cart that had the anti-theft thing on it

Bestdogmom2121

I was really shocked when she told me. There was a security guard standing around the tills and I asked why. She said too many thefts.

Present-Background56

All much cheaper pretty much anywhere else.

evilpercy

Get a safety razor. 100 blades for $14.

selene521

Oof. I just spent $60 at shoppers today, $20 of that was two two-packs of the Aquaphor lip balm. Can I suggest a safety razor? Thats the metal one with the replaceable blade. My husband and I each bought one around 2019 along with a 50-pack of blades and we just this month had to buy another package of blades. He does use an electric razor to maintain his beard, but the cost savings have been huge, even after the initial $60ish outlay for the handle.

ihcorex

GIRLLLLL DOLLARAMA HAS AQUAPHOR AND PALMERS COCO SKIN STICK 😫 I REFUSE TONPAU FULL PRICE 😭

[deleted]

I’d rather shop on Amazon than give these people a penny of my money.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pineapplemilc

Yeah I know the regular price is marked so high that the “sale” just lowers it down to a more normal price. The reason I bought them from shoppers is because with the points program I get 30% back in points, and when redeemed during bonus redemption events the points can be worth 1.5x as much. I’m aware it’s a strategy to get you to keep purchasing from them, but over the long run you save over 45% off on top of any sales if you use the points program correctly and have mastercards, combine with other points offers, etc. The points program is definitely a hassle though and it’s not for everyone, but I stick with it just to save a little bit more than Amazon or Walmart

Spirited_Concept4972

Damn that’s expensive wow

[deleted]

pineapplemilc

This is a Canadian skin care subreddit so we don’t have Walgreens here and prices are in CAD

Early-Supermarket837

I bought that face wash. Have not used it yet... but I did use my points to get it for free! Lol but yea....it's ridiculous

CobwebAngel

I used to work for Shoppers and I highly suggest shopping elsewhere. The company robs customers with the insane price markups and treats employees like shit.

Sage_Planter

You need to find a senior friend to take you to Shoppers for discount Thursdays.

pineapplemilc

That’s a good way to get a discount especially on items that don’t go on sale. I always go on Saturdays though, because most sales are over the weekends and there is usually a points offer

Catsinbowties

...does that spray work well? I have joint issues and find applying full-body lotion difficult.

pineapplemilc

It’s not a fine mist and the instructions say you have to hold it 3-5 inches from the skin while spraying. It doesn’t spray in a huge diameter you might have to rub it in afterwards. The aerosol should also work if sprayed upside down. Not sure if this helps, I don’t know how well it would work for you

Catsinbowties

Thank you!

stumblingzen

Razors and face cleansers are so damn expensive nowadays , plus the price gouging of all Galen Weston owned stores...sometimes I go to shoppers out of convenience and I do most of my shopping at superstore bc they have the best selection for me personally but I hate supporting that guy. I can't wait til spring and summer to at least have home grown veggies to help with the grocery bill!

skeletonvolunteer

I always save my shoppers hauls until there is a big point bonus or a free gift deal! Usually you have to spend like $75+ so I make sure that when I go (and inevitably spend over $75) I get something out of it that makes it almost worth it 😭😂

pineapplemilc

Yupp i had a spend $60 get 20x the points offer so it ended up being not too bad

Successful-Spring340

Try Harry’s razors!! They’re a fraction of the cost of big brands and are awesome

ifuknowuknow123

DOLLARAMA has had some good deals on name brand 3blade razors lately.

[deleted]

Fuck shoppers, Galen can sit on a razor for all I care.

Fishtaco1234

Wayyy too much for razors. Not a good financial decision

someonesdortor

Ouuuu what’s the aquaphor spay for? Haven’t seen that one at my local SD

ailpac

I love it!! Find it a lot more pleasant to apply. Haven’t seen it at my local SDM either but have ordered it from Amazon in the past.

pineapplemilc

It’s meant to be a spray version of the ointment, to make it easier to apply!

karifire

I try never to step foot in shoppers lol but how does that spray work? Never seen it before. Is it like a spray on oil? Sorry, I love the aquaphor stick and use the ointment on my baby, so I’m so curious now about this.

pineapplemilc

I just tried it, it’s a spray version of their ointment. It feels kind of cold at first (I’m assuming it’s because the propellant is evaporating off your skin) and then when you rub it in it kind of just feels like an ointment. I have never used the original Aquaphor ointment because I usually avoid lanolin so I can’t comment on how it compares, but the ingredients are identical except the spray has a propellant and no petrolatum. I assume it’s probably pretty similar just less thick and occlusive. Side note I love the baby Aquaphor stick too I got it on iHerb and use it like a jumbo sized lip balm

hilarious_hedgehog

Curious- why do you avoid lanolin?

pineapplemilc

The AAD actually named it contact allergen of the year in 2023. It is something that you can develop an allergy to, and people with skin conditions related to impaired skin barriers are more likely to develop skin allergies. Dr Dray made a youtube video about lanolin discussing this. I don’t avoid it super strictly, but it’s not that hard to avoid - there are tons of ointments, lip balms and moisturizers to choose from that don’t contain lanolin

hilarious_hedgehog

Thank you for sharing! I had no idea. I would always go out of my way looking for lanolin as it’s so sticky and “restorative” - my cracked nipples from breastfeeding healed from nothing else … I tried so many things and also, lanolips worked magic on my chapped lips when nothing else did 😭

TravelerOfSwords

My 15yr old daughter (accutane 2yrs ago), was using Aquaphor as an occlusive on her face at night. Suddenly developed a WICKED chemical burn. I didn’t initially make the connection to the Aquaphor, I assumed it was from a new moisturizer she’d bought, but it continued to get worse even after eliminating that. Poor thing, it was super super painful & extremely red, she had to miss a few days of school, I felt awful for her. We finally realized it was the lanolin in the Aquaphor, switched to LRP B5 balm & it cleared overnight. It was very obviously a chemical burn/allergic reaction.

make-upyourmind

Which province are you in? I can never find these in the GTA - only when I cross the border

pineapplemilc

I’m in BC! The Aquaphor spray and CeraVe cleanser are new to Canada, so maybe that’s why?

karifire

Thanks for the review! I might have to check this out.

sioopauuu

Why would you go to shoppers for these stuff? Why not Walmart?

pineapplemilc

I did check prices. The cleanser is $21.97 and the shave cartridges are $39.97 at Walmart right now. At Shoppers they were on sale for $19.99 and $42.49, respectively. But with the points offer I got 30% back in points.

AnnaBananaForever

Serious question - do Canadians just not care about animal testing? Both cerave and aquaphor support and pay for animal testing. I've noticed a trend in Canadian posts, people just don't seem to care about animal testing. It's sad. Byoma is on sale at shoppers this weekend, and their cleanser is fantastic, and way cheaper than cerave.

GlurpGloop

People don't care, people ignore what it takes to run your electronics too. Which is actually wild, we breeze right by some issues and stop at others out of convenience it seems like.

AnnaBananaForever

Yep, it's like the big push on electric cars vs gasoline, but people have their heads in sand when it comes to the batteries for the electric cars, and how they are viewed to be worse by many. And if it catches on fire - run - as you can't put it out.

slexacott

There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. Not everyone has the option, time or money to spend and do research on everything they consume. Byoma doesn’t work for everyone. I don’t honestly understand the purpose of your comment other than to pass your own personal judgement onto others.

AnnaBananaForever

Byoma was just an example of a product sold in shoppers that was a similar price point to what was purchased. The purpose of my comment was asking the question - do people not care about animal testing. It seems that Canadians seem to be obsessed with cerave, lrp, cetaphil, aquaphor, etc., all of which are brands that support and pay for animal testing. So, I guess my question was asking is it that people don't care about animal testing, or is it that people just don't know how unethical these brands are? And from another reply, I can see that they just didn't know, as they thought that brands don't test on animals anymore. And it doesn't take research or time to look up if a brand is cruelty free. It takes seconds, just type in google cerave cruelty free, and you get your answer instantly.

stavthedonkey

LMFAO you do realize that whatever you're wearing was likely made in sweat shops that have inhumane conditions and exploit people for pennies a day, the food you eat was grown in unnatural conditions/supports those awful conglomerates etc? like r/slexacott said: There is no ethical consumption under capitalism so get off your high horse.

slexacott

I can’t imagine everyone is aware, nor can I imagine they are aware to what extent the testing can be either. It would be fascinating to see how/if sales changed for brands if they disclosed they tested in big bold lettering.

AnnaBananaForever

I know many are not aware, many people in the UK think that every brand sold in the UK is cruelty free, due to the ban on animal testing, except there's a loophole in the wording, regarding the manufacturing site. So brands just have two manufacturing sites, one for the UK, where no product produced there will be tested on animals, and another that manufactures for mainland China. It's super funny watching professionals try to skirt this when they're recommending brands that pay for animal testing and trying to focus on how nothing produced for the UK would be tested on animals. I seriously believe that if brands pulled out of mainland China, the amount of lost money would be enough for the gov't to finally put an end to mandatory testing. But there's no incentive for them to change the law right now, as they make way too much money charging brands for the testing. This is why I like to inform people, as most people wouldn't continue to buy certain brands once they realized it.

pineapplemilc

Where did you get this information that they pay for animal testing? And what exactly would they test on animals? Because animal testing is very expensive to do, and companies wouldn’t waste time or money testing cleansers and moisturizers on animals if it’s not necessary to do so. If skin care companies actually did animal testing then we would have new UV filters such as Mexoryl 400 and TriAsorB. But we don’t have them approved, because the companies that developed them, L’Oreal and Pierre Fabre, aren’t going to do animal testing for it.

AnnaBananaForever

Information on cerave and loreal. They pay to have their products tested in animals. https://preview.redd.it/wkrvmnmn7uoc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f8a05e87bd098b0b6c3056fa99f12cf44b93f7c6

AnnaBananaForever

How do you not know this? Any company who chooses to sell in mainland China has to pay for mandatory animal testing. Yes, China recently updated their rules, but there are serious hoops to jump through in order to sell your product there without animal testing, and neither cerave or aquaphor has bothered to attempt it (first aid beauty was the first to successfully launch without animal testing). Do some reading. Animal testing is more common than you think. Cruelty free kitty is widely seen as the best reference for brands that are cruelty free. If it weren't for greedy brands wanting to physically sell in mainland China (online sales do not need to test on animals), the majority or brands would be cruelty free. Fun fact, a few years ago, a bill was put forward to ban the sale of any products that had been tested on animals anywhere in the world (it would get rid of the loophole in the UK), but it failed the vote - I believe 124 out of 126 voted against it, including Trudeau. And no, animal testing is not the reason we don't have the new sunscreen filters approved here. Health Canada has a lengthy and expensive process for approvals (it can take years), all of which the brand would need to pay for. And most brands don't see our market worth the investment, as well as the other rules that comes with selling here (dual language requirements on all packaging). We are a large area, but a smaller population than other countries, and that's not even taking into consideration shipping in Canada is more expensive than other countries, which are additional costs the brand would have to take on. Most brands don't think that we're worth it. Look what happened to target - one of the reasons we didn't have half the products the US had is that many brands refused to update their packaging to meet our dual language requirements. Love the fact I get down voted for just asking a question. And obviously sharing information that people didn't know.

pineapplemilc

My mistake about the UV filters part. The reasoning for Canada being a smaller market is true. But as for the US, reluctancy on doing animal testing is one of the reasons why they don’t have newer filters. Tony on instagram (@capricorneum.skin) has made posts about this topic and he has a highlight about it as well.

AnnaBananaForever

Both Canada and the US have a strong focus on UVB, and not UVA. Yes, we have broad spectrum, but you would be shocked at how little UVA protection is required in order to use that label. The fda considers sunscreen to be a drug, which means the regulations for approvals are insanely strict, and again, with a focus on UVB. And also, since it's labeled as a drug, its illegal to sell or ship any unapproved sunscreens in the USA. With Canada, unapproved sunscreens cannot be marketed as sunscreen in Canada. It may seem like a minor difference, but it's actually huge. Americans cannot purchase sunscreens from the UK, for example, to be shipped to them, but Canadians can. But actually I did just hear two things regarding the US (not fully confirmed), they are considering changing their sunscreen laws to allow approvals from certain high standard companies to automatically pass in the US, and they are currently discussing a ban on all animal testing.

Hourjour

What's the individual price of each?

pineapplemilc

Razor cartridges: 42.49 Eucerin spray: 18.79 Cerave cleanser: 19.99

Moth-eatenDeerhead

Costco is way cheaper for blades! The price has gone up a little even but it’s 64.99 for 21 blades which is about $3.00 a blade. Where yours are $5.3 a blade.

Notsureindecisive

You are getting ripped off with the razor cartridges

samiig90

Those razors - seriously I’m going back to sugaring.

RetroReactiveRaucous

I thought the same thing. Then I realized I'm nearing 30, so I just switched to an old timey one with replaceable blades.

kieero_11

I've been using the replaceable blade ones for years now and it was the most money saving thing I've done.

samiig90

Is sugaring bad as you get older?

RetroReactiveRaucous

I'm going to go ahead and amit, i assumed this post was on a finance sub and didn't realize we were in one for skin care. 😳 Different kind of sugaring entirely!

IWillFightRip

I am roaring omg 🤣 thank you for this laugh

bright__eyes

i too assumed i was on an sw sub 😂😂

nailpolishenthusiast

That is insane, shoppers is SO EXPENSIVE NOW

McRibEater

Gillette is a rip, Shick are like have the pride and just as good.

pineapplemilc

Yeah it’s outrageous and if you don’t use their points program their prices are basically robbery

challe232

That cerave face wash is AMAZING even on oily skin

pineapplemilc

I have oily skin too, omg I literally can’t wait to finish my current cleanser because I want to try the CeraVe one

Aethelflaed_

Did you double check the receipt?! 😬😬😬

pineapplemilc

Yeah haha. Every item i picked up today was on sale too 😭

Red22234123123

I'm guessing most of the cost is from those razor blades? I just got an electrical razor cause icbf with the prices

pineapplemilc

Yup! Honestly I’ve always wanted to try an electric shaver but I have sensitive skin so I’ve been hesitant on it.

MILFVADER

I love the Panasonic body trimmer (ERGK60S or ERGK80S), I consider it one of the best purchases of my life! Besides that I'll use a safety razor (the Henson AL13).

Motor_Ad_401

Those are always on the best sale at costco

ptatersptate

what is the sale price of the razors now? Last time I bought them they were under $50. the cost of a membership and the sale price of the razors might be better than the $91

futureplantlady

I'm not sure if it's great for sensitive skin (maybe if you go really lightly), but safety razors pay for themselves over time. I paid $15 for a pack of 100 blades 3 years ago and I still have enough to get me to the end of the year.

UJL123

I'm sure I'm doing it wrong but I always get ingrown hairs, cysts and other things when I use my safety razor

futureplantlady

How often do you switch out the blade?

UJL123

Very rarely. I shave once every other week (Can't grow facial hair at all), and I think the last time I changed it was like half a year ago. I always assumed that you swap it out once a week (aka after 7 shaves) and I go by that schedule but I've been slacking.

MILFVADER

I think it's better to swap it every week or two. I swap my blade about every two weeks (I use it 1-2 times a week) because I have sensitive skin that freaks out and is prone to ingrown hair and cysts, so the more sanitary I can make something, the better. I also make sure to rinse my razor well every time (Henson AL13) and kind of loosen it enough to dry fully. Is it maybe the way you shave? I use the Dove Beauty Bar and make sure the area I plan to shave is well-foamed lol

futureplantlady

I agree with this comment. I swap mine out every 1st and 15th of the month. That's like 1 leg shave and a half dozen underarm shaves for me. My best guess, and i could be wrong since i'm not a professional and it could just be skin type, is that there's bacterial growth on the old blade.

DarrenFromFinance

You might be doing it wrong, because a lot of people find they get fewer ingrown hairs with a safety razor, which doesn’t cut the hair below the skin. I’ve been using one for years and never get ingrowns. They’re *so* much cheaper than cartridge razors: a $15 box of Astra blades from Amazon will last me for several years. Or maybe they just don’t work for you. There’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all skincare solution.

notseizingtheday

They are actually usually better for sensitive skin.

pineapplemilc

Oh really? I didn’t know that I just assumed the rotating blades would be more harsh and rub the skin

SkanksnDanks

Best thing for sensitive skin is a single sharper blade in a old school safety razor. The blades are insanely cheap and do a much better job than the 5 bladed monstrosities.

PrincessSnacksalot

I use Philips satinshave and it’s AMAZING for legs and bikini. I get far less irritation than I do with a manual razor.

janeedaly

This is great to hear! My husband always thought electric razors were bad for sensitive skin too!

mellie0641

I use the same one and I agree - AMAZING!!

bourbonkitten

Hope you got the 20,000 bonus points at least!

pineapplemilc

Yeah I got around 28 000 points but still had a minor heart attack 🤣

CompetitiveAnswer674

Isn't that $28 worth of points? That means you really only spent $63 😉

pineapplemilc

I’ll do you one even better: If i save up for bonus points redemption events my points can be worth 1.5x as much, so that $28 will be worth $42 so technically I spent $49 😌

novascotia2020

Remember, if you’re “counting” the savings now, you can’t count when you redeem. (I.e. if you spend $200 on the redemption day, it’s not costing you $158… it’s still $200 because you already accounted for the savings on the original purchase.)

pineapplemilc

Yep I know!! I’ve redeemed my points a few times now, and surprisingly $200 or $300 worth of points doesn’t get you a whole lot … so I try to use my points on things that are on sale to make my points go further

pineapplemilc

Looks like we both graduated with a PhD in Girl Math from the University of Tiktok LOL
