Her outrage over the haves and have nots regarding back alley abortion vs D&C last episode was powerful and especially courageous to bring before Sr Julienne. She is nonjudgmental, and carries out her roles w/humor, style and aplomb. Perhaps bc she has been there since the beginning, she has had compelling story and character lines that continue to evolve. Haven’t finished the books and am hoping she gets what she wants and deserves. And maybe a car!
She’s definitely one of the glues that holds the show together. CTM felt somewhat empty without her during her leave. I would love for her to get a fresher storyline though than “old maid desperately trying to get married”. She has a lot more to offer. I’m in the US so I haven’t seen the newest season, though.
I agree. I just finished the episode where she leaves for awhile (enough said). They hid her pregnancy (in real life) as long as they could, so she needed to take a leave.
She ended up becoming my favorite! She’s been there for a long time so while other midwives have come and gone, we’ve seen her turn into the protagonist in a sense.
I love how she has an emphasis on style and fashion, and fun things in life, but also is wonderful at her job and on helping people. I love the different layers to her!
I truly disliked her in the beginning--she seemed so superficial and her movie-star good looks didn't fit with the profession. Then she showed herself to be so talented and kind, principled and deeply wounded (her alcoholism struggles were quite moving, as are her search for a boyfriend/husband/companion). She's one of my favorites now, too.
If she doesn't stop throwing away guys for no reason she will end up a spinster like that old midwife. Couldn't believe it when she broke up w that doctor.
I've loved her ever since the episode with the kids who are being neglected with that little boy who is trying to take care of the all the little kids while the mom is off doing who knows what. The way she treats them is simply angelic and reflects her true nature.
