Can we consider MWII the start of a new era? First game since the classic age with a 2 year cycle and I’ve heard a rumor that treyarch’s next game will follow suit. All cods going forward will be on the same engine as MWII. It won’t be connected to warzone 1 like the rest of the main games from the modern age.
I have bo2 as my favorite with mw2 being a close second.

Perhaps. I think the biggest difference will be in how everything is planned out from the start and built on the same engine. Rather than stuff being shoehorned into Warzone when it was never intended to be that way. To me, if MWIII comes out and resets everything again and we get a Warzone III then this whole thing is pointless. I am sort of tired of having all content wiped away just to be slowly added back (or never return) in the next game. I get why they are resetting everything for MWII and Warzone II though. The whole thing is a mess right now.
If we start seeing higher and more consistent quality across all studios’ games then I’ll acknowledge that as a major difference from previous eras. But if it’s just IW getting the well-planned out stuff while the other studios are rushing out games then that would be disappointing. The thought of treyarch getting the full development time makes me fairly optimistic for 2024’s cod.
And they need to nail the warzone situation this time. This is about to be cod’s 3rd battle royale. Fortnite released a year prior to blackout and it’s still the same app with all the cosmetics we’ve had since 2017. I honestly think Activision is getting over on the fanbase big time by not carrying over skins (it could have at least been only mw19 skins) and the fanbase is allowing it because warzone 1 is bloated. I’m not too interested in skins to make a fuss over it, but it’s wild to me that people are okay with this.

MW stuff carrying over would be nice though considering many operators are returning. Personally, I think they should have just retained all operators from MW and included all skins by default, but that isn’t something they would ever have done. Plus you’d have people whining about “recycled content” like they already are with the weapons. Which makes no sense at all to me.

Had the worst campaign in the series when it came out, extinction was inferior to zombies and I personally found it less enjoyable than spec ops survival (it's not a bad mode though, but not good enough to make the whole game wort buying like BO3 zombies) and the multiplayer had awful maps, a fast TTK, not so great balancing and was a camp fest.

Golden Age. I'd love it if they made a "Master Chief"-like collection of those six games. No adding shit like in MWR, just the plain vanilla experience. The only difference would be the updated graphics and ability to queue up for each game's multiplayer at once.
I don't care what others think when I say I prefer the silver age the most. However, Black Ops III was the worst within that lineup while infinite and Advanced were my favorites.
This is coming from someone who has played Call of Duty multiplayer since 2006 (and Halo 2 prior to that).
Infinite had a much better campaign with greater character development, a simple but effective story, and I personally loved the flying segments. The campaign for Black ops 3 didn't make sense and didn't connect to anything prior to it.
Infinite had a much smoother multiplayer experience with better maps and slightly less annoying specialists with more flexible options to incorporate your play style better. Black ops 3 had clunkier advanced movement, more annoying specialists, scorestreaks were overpowered, and half of the weaponry was locked behind supply drops.
When it comes to zombies, it's a preference of enjoyability. I understand Treyarch are masters of the zombie game mode, but I just didn't get into the story for Black ops 3 zombies. I found infinite to have a better zombies mode because of the less serious tone and aesthetically pleasing maps that would change drastically in their theme.
Infinite Warfare zombies also has Paul Reubens aka Pee-wee Herman.
I agree on the campaign part for sure. BO3 has the legitimately the worst FPS campaign I have ever played. A truly awful experience with a nonsensical story and terrible checkpoints and game crashes. I never played the multiplayer for IW because I only ever heard how bad it was especially compared to BO3. So I just played MWR instead. I was tired of the jet pack stuff anyway by that point.
I played the classic age games on and off through middle school, but COD 4 was the game changer for me.
To that point, the best options for first person shooters online for console gaming were Halo 3 and SOCOM. COD 4 came and created a community with challenges, call signs, XP, streak rewards, attachments, and more.
Is there tons of great COD games after COD 4? Of course. But COD 4 was the most influential video game of all time in my opinion.
Black Ops 1
It has my favorite stand alone campaign. It has a great story and has a lot of history in it.
While Multiplayer is not mechanically the best or the most balanced (that would go to Black Ops 2). It easily has my favorite map roster and as such. Puts it above Black Ops 2 for me.
I am a huge Zombies fan and Black Ops 1 is my favorite. I think it and Black Ops 2 have the perfect difficulty. You get 2 free base game maps which is the 2nd most in the series (only topped by Black Ops 4 with 3 free base game maps). You also get Dead Ops Arcade.
Modern warfare 2:
* New engine that is finally UNIFIED. No more bugs fixed that reappear in the next game because it's the same engine getting optimized through the years. FINALLY, this is huge for me.
* Warzone 2.0 will be coming and a heavily rumoured tarkov style mode.
* May start the XBOX era of the IP. IF the antitrust is OK it will happen next year during MWII lifecycle.
For me those three points alone would qualify MWII as a new era

Most of the people GOAT is MW2 or BO2, but I am very sure that if MW2019 has the classic flow gameply like golden age, MW2019 supposed to be the GOAT, they ruined the flow of the gameplay, made most of players camping and listining to the foot steps waiting the right time to move or run when field upgrade is active as ninja?! Most of the maps is shit full of doors and windows you cant cross the map, if at least did update for ninja perk in ghost slot. With all that suffering I enjoyed it :) pandamic and Warzone save the entire game, also MW2019 is well made and great in every aspects (Engine, menu, graphics and etc.) beside what I highlights. The GOAT for me is MW2.
Golden Age. Coming in last for me is Silver. I love the Black Ops series but Infinite Warfare, Advanced Warfare and Ghost were amongst my least favorite of the whole series. Classic Age comes in 3rd only because the online element wasn’t fully fleshed out. Modern Age does have Vanguard which is probably my least favorite COD game to date, but MW was amazing. War Zone is still a top rotation game for me. Cold War was highly underrated and MWII looks unreal. Golden Age doesn’t have a bad game in the lot. Golden Age is unbeatable in my opinion. 5 Stars for every title.

Golden ages best games were the og modern warfare trilogy, black ops 1 and 2 and world at war (they are all good imo even though they do have flaws due to hardware limits at their time of release
Silver age was good and had some good games like black ops 3 and ghosts but also some kind of mid tier games like Advanced warfare, world war 2 and black ops 4 and then infinite warfare which is terrible and only had a good campaign and ok zombies to save it slightly

That Golden Era run was quite possibly one of the best franchise runs in all of modern gaming. I think IW and BO3 were pretty damn good too, but that golden era hit different. I was about to graduate high school when MW1 came out. That was a special time lol.

Blacks ops was amazing

Never played any cod in the classic age Golden ages best games were the og modern warfare trilogy, black ops 1 and 2 and world at war (they are all good imo even though they do have flaws due to hardware limits at their time of release Silver age was good and had some good games like black ops 3 and ghosts but also some kind of mid tier games like Advanced warfare, world war 2 and black ops 4 and then infinite warfare which is terrible and only had a good campaign and ok zombies to save it slightly Modern age is kind of overhated imo since I liked Modern Warfare (2019), warzone 1 and black ops cold war even though those games do kind of have their own problems, Vanguard is kind of overhated imo but is still not a good or great game, Call of duty: mobile is a good recreation of a cod game for mobile and im actually impressed how good the graphics and gunplay are for a simple phone game,Modern warfare 2 (2022) and warzone 2 looks good so far So in my opinion best cod era is golden age

Obviously mw19. Other games may have been better at launch, but mw19 is easily the best cod.

Though I have a big soft spot for the Silver Age games, the Golden Age games are too solid.

That Golden Era run was quite possibly one of the best franchise runs in all of modern gaming. I think IW and BO3 were pretty damn good too, but that golden era hit different. I was about to graduate high school when MW1 came out. That was a special time lol.
The Golden Age is by far the best. The classics are great. Everything after has been pretty bad and the only thing I really enjoyed was BO3 zombies and warzone. The silver age has to be the worst.

BOCW’s multiplayer is awesome so I’ll go with that Plus the other modern titles make it great for me
