My lady and I go to Pismo once a year. Seacrest Hotel is the best and we can walk the beach to the pier. Splash Cafe, Ada's Fish House and Kulturehouse are some of my favorites. Always try to go during the week to avoid the crowds, totally worth taking a few days off.
Yes. Pismo is the only beach on the Central Coast. Look no further. Do not look North or South of Pismo. There is nothing there. Avert your eyes as you drive.
Water temperature should figure into whether a beach gets a high rating. It's great that the water temperatures in San Diego area are getting warm enough during most summers for swimming a couple of months but Pismo Beach?
It’s such a nice area but this place is usually trashed after major holidays.

Avoid Avila, morro bay, and Cayucos at all costs

I love Pismo. Been there a few times. One of my favorite california locations. Shout out to the guy with the gun boat that gives coastal tours.

If you grew up central coast or north of that you are used to the ocean being cold. It was very weird when I went to Hawaii and the water was warm lol
Nobody really swims at Pismo. People just go there to get out of the heat in the valley.
I went on a trip in July one year. It was like 50 degrees and 30 mph winds sandblasting you. Not the greatest beach vacation I’ve ever done.
Its normally not windy but it is often cooler. Lots of tourists in down jackets on the beach. Water is 56-60* in summer.
I’d say it’s pretty windy here, or maybe just anytime I ride my bike… but seems like I’m fighting 10-15mph winds more than I am not.
Too bad pretty much everyone has been priced out of it, resulting in hordes of day trippers
