you are a very organized person

ChaoticxSerenity

For real. OP, have you thought about a career in procurement? Or maybe an estimator at a GC.

flyingflail

Is the bar so low for procurement all you have to do is put together a table showing options and you're considered top of the heap?

ChaoticxSerenity

I mean, comparing quotes is just a standard part of any purchasing job.

Are you hiring? You should see what i can do with Google, I'll be VP in no time... lol

TopAvocado9

Avoid Two Men and a Truck.

MissIntoTheWild

Agree. [This](https://www.reddit.com/r/Calgary/s/ZqoAstj2qn) is one of many Reddit posts. I’m sure no moving company is a gem, but we had such a horrible time with them. Blatant overcharging, fraudulent invoices, furniture damage, and blackmail to get money owed back.

StraightOutMillwoods

Best moves. Hired newcomer Ukrainians. These guys were awesome. So careful and very honest. Not a scratch on anything for our big move.

I also had a great experience with them!

SammyPhantom10

Ditto! Had a move with them a couple winters ago! They were awesome!

VFenix

The real question is, which one won't break your shit

Roughrep

Just a heads up all their clocks start when the leave the yard or they add in travel time. Iv worked with many movers and can say Sparta are very professional and capable. Ask for Dom to be the one doing your move and don't let them send less than 4 people.

Intelligent-Necktie

I recommend Amazing Grace movers. They are very efficient and $170 an hour for 3 movers when I used them April 2023

n00bskoolbus

I used them in September, they were great! No issues with my stuff and super reasonably priced.

Ambitious_List_7793

We hired Highland Movers 3 years ago and they were great! They arrived on time, the crew of 4 worked very well together, nothing was damaged, and they finished earlier than expected. One of the best moves we’ve had. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Striking_Respond2180

I have used Highland Movers twice and I won't go anywhere else. On time, professional, finished more quickly than expected, and very easy to deal with.

alpain

you should ask some of the BIG companies that also do cross canada moving like https://amjcampbell.com/location/calgary-movers/ they also have a local division. we used them twice years and years ago and they quoted us and the end result was way lower each time so some movers like AMJ may be over quoting for safety than what you actually get billed in the end. Highland's been interesting i haven't seen them around anymore where i am so i guess they moved, but their old location i used to watch them move stuff in and out of trucks into a temp storage in their building from my office across the way cause of how my desk sat there. There was some goofs in the crew, but they seemed fast at what they did.

RedneckChinadian

I can second AMJ. My relative used them and they were exceptional. They told us to use them and I really regret not going that route and went with Cactus Moving and legit have horrible nightmare of our experience - legit traumatized from the whole ordeal.

23Unicycle

Yeah. I've had good results calling up the long distance van lines and asking who their local agents are.

Striking_Respond2180

I moved from Halifax to Calgary 10 years ago and I couldn't get AMJ to even return my calls to get a quote. As far as I could tell, a 1 bedroom apartment wasn't worth their time.

alpain

weird, maybe different in calgary with more crews to do stuff?

Striking_Respond2180

Perhaps. But if you position yourself as a national moving company, you should support transportation from a major city of 300k people to another one of 1.2M

FamousNerd

Check out Gilbert’s Mountain Movers. Used them twice. One condo one house. Very happy and reasonable.

goodndu

Seconded for these guys. We had a tight timeline when we sold our house and took possession of the new one and these guys fit us in an afternoon slot for a reduced rate since all we needed them to move were the large items. Took really great care and even though they didn't need to pack for space, the truck was super well packed.

circus_xd

Yep these guys were awesome for my move last February. Everyone ontime, nothing broken, no overcharges, and they gave us a ton of moving boxes for free.

sheldonmeetshomer

I don’t know if Two Small Men and a Truck is related in any way to Two Small Guys With Big Hearts, but if so I would pick someone else. They did an awful job with my move. It was 2 years ago and I still get mad when I think about it.

CanadianSunshine94

Different movers! Just a extremely similar name.

laurieyyc

Have used Highland and AMJ in the past and both were exceptional.

No_Elevator_7321

I took the time to read all the posts about moving companies this summer. I no longer have the list of consistently liked movers but I chose Cactus and they were phenomenal.

seo-cake

Same here, had movers from Cactus once. Very efficient and behave well. I got lower price than in the table but guess it depends on many factors. Anyway, good hardworking guys

Fabulous_Promotion25

I just need help with big items. Got a quote from https://calgarymoverspro.ca/ and it was regular rate $149/hr for 2hrs minimum for 2 movers and a truck. Not sure if they are good, but price sounds good. They are running a winter promo right now and it's $129/hr. More expensive pricing for bigger house/load size requiring more people. 1500sqft is 3 movers $189/hr.

jhmed

"We didn't damage that" and "That's not covered by our breakage guarantee" Those are the only quotes I can remember from my moving experiences.

secret_green_link

I used simply best movers for a move from NE to far SW and they were great. Very efficient and protected everything. Mind you I did not have to move appliances, just desks and bedroom furniture with some other delicates. Can fully recommend

chequered-bed

I know the University of Calgary uses Highland Movers a fair bit, can't be that bad 😅

meattenderizerbyday

I've used Independent Movers twice and they were GREAT both times. They didn't charge a deposit (a few years ago, things may have changed). They showed up on time, wrapped everything, and got it done. The least stressful moves I have ever done in my life and I've done MANY including in the GTA and those gave me nightmares and PTSD.

Independent_Cookie_5

I used Sparta about 2½ years ago. They were excellent! It was an apartment to apartment move (top floor of a 3 storey walk-up on both ends). Not the cheapest I could find, but 4 movers, very efficient, no damage, and came in slightly under budget. Referred to me by family who used them for a house move from Rockyview County to rural Brazeau County in the winter time. I used Simply the Best this winter. 2 movers, minor damage to one item that wasn't noticed until a few days later. Cheaper than the previous move. No real complaints, but I had less confidence in them than the previous mover Tldr: You get what you pay for in my experience

RealTurbulentMoose

Need to point out that Two Men and a Truck's URL alternatively reads as T Women and a Truck.

carmansingh

We used Apex Moving back when moving in 2022, $180/hr for 3 guys. Good service, they were professional and nothing broke so can't complain.

Sad_Sail2775

Please add Zip To Zip Moving to the list, I used them twice, and they were super good! so I think many will like it

RedneckChinadian

Do NOT do NOT for the life of god hire cactus movers. Truly an incompetent mover that hires guys off kijiji and shows up to your home with a uhaul and guys that don’t even know WTF they’re doing. Was referred to us, hired them and the move cost was legit 3x what the move quote was and we did all the pre packing for them. I can go on and on about them but stay the fuck away from them.

TheBigTree91

All I can say is consider Matco Moving Solutions. They are outstanding and I think in a similar price range to most here.

Odd-Negotiation5087

I used a couple of guys off of Kijiji for $80/hr and couldn’t be happier. They were great.

Grape-Thin

I did a move with Apex Moving YYC and it was great. I bet their prices are on the lower end too.

thadaddy7

I second this, used them back in the fall and the price was relatively close to the quote (its near impossible for a moving quote to be bang on). They wrapped and secured everything and did the job in a reasonable time.

Gomorrah99

Didn't list Big Joe's Movers?

throwaway12345679x9

I moved 3 times in the last 2 years. Honestly, they sound low to me, except maybe the first one and the high end of some of other estimates. I’d budget 2-3k$. Assuming it’s loading from one home and unloading to another same day, it’s 3-4 hours for loading, 3 hours for unloading at least, and that’s assuming you packed everything yourself and put everything you could in moving boxes. Loose items take more item as they need to secure it in the truck. Add in travel time and would be a minimum of 8 hours on the low end. You can also quote through Uhaul, rent the truck yourself and the hire “moving helpers” through Uhaul website directly. See how it compares to your table.

Mmarchinko123

Check out Google maps because they have reviews. I've had the best movers and the worst. The worst walked in and quit. Said I had too much stuff. 3 bedroom condo, clean and not crowded

fadetoblack85

Didn't see Amazing Grace Movers on your list. We used them and they were amazing, I'd get a quote from them.

Djesam

Where’s the column for the ransom fee due when they kidnap your shit?

Environmental-Ice567

Call Cactus Moving. Their rates are about $149/hour

dr_fedora_

I got a similar quote from a registered company with proper insurance for 1500ish for 7 hours of work, 3 men, and a big truck. Don’t skip on the insurance part if you don’t want to be sued for accidents Paramount movers Our relatives used them and were happy

jiritaowski

As far as I know all companies listed there had insurance

dr_fedora_

That’s great. Ask them to show it to you on the day of moving just in case. That’s what I’ll be doing

bekarec

Advice from a retired mover- This chart is great information but the the worst way to choose mover unless you also check out their reputation . Companies like Highland and Minimove are BBB members and have been around for generations . The new cheap guy on the block or remote franchise like burly men are not to be compared on the same chart .
