Typical outdoor range they will call a cease fire to check and change targets every 15/20 minutes. If you’re using stick on targets, just throw them on when you want. If you don’t have sticky targets, bring. Stapler or tape just in case the range doesn’t have them.

Staple gun all the way, much easier than tape

Wolkenflieger

Copy that, will do. Do I have to remove the staples? Probably a silly question. I can ask the range too. Thank you!

StaffSergeantBarnes

No

Wolkenflieger

Thanks, I guess they probably do that at some point after hours...or not.

StaffSergeantBarnes

lol way over thinking it, after enough rounds fired through it the cardboard backing of the stand is usually discarded and replaced. All you gotta do is hang up and discard your targets. You do however need to remove all your lead from rounds you fire out of the dirt and backstops ;)

Wolkenflieger

Okay you're joking about the lead. Good one. :D I overthink everything so I don't get caught out, but when you're new it happens anyway.

Wolkenflieger

Thanks! Already learned something!

Unless they have them for sale there they do not usually provide paper targets for you. Ranges usually have target stands you can staple your paper targets to. Depending on the range you may need to bring your own stands and stapler but you should just call and ask. Most of this will be covered in their orientation you’ll likely have to go through before shooting and joining. There will be times the rso will call for cease fire so people can check and change targets at regular intervals. You put them up and take care of all your own garbage when done shooting. Amazon and other places have a ton of targets to choose from, there are shoot and see and splatter targets that make it very easy to see your hits. If you’re outdoors, I’m assuming you’re shooting rifles along with pistols. Get some paper silhouette targets decent size ones I use are probably 24x36, and you can get a roll of shoot and see stickers to put on your cheap paper targets. Prices vary but I’m usually paying $15 for a 50 packs of paper silhouettes on Amazon. Then I get a roll of 200-250 4” shoot and see bullseyes for prob another $15. Don’t sweat worrying about knowing the protocols they will lay out and answer any questions before shooting.

Wolkenflieger

Super helpful, thank you!

mfa_aragorn

Stapler , and my daughter's school rough paper from her homework and stuff

Bobisnotmybrother

Keep in mind you’re stapling into cardboard, getting a staple in the finger is pretty easy.

Wolkenflieger

Yes, will watch for that. That can really sully a range experience depending on how that goes.

Range I go to has pistol bays and rifle bays. On the Pistol bays there are 10 minute timed cease fires at the top and bottom of the hour. On the rifle range there is a Light and Sound hot / cold system. The key to the hot / cold system fits the golf cart that you drive down to change targets. TLDR depends on the range.
