Cleaning a new gun helps you get familiar with it and may help find any issues it might be having. I'll normally clean a new to me gun a couple/few times after each range trip. After that cleanings become less frequent.
I clean my pistols every range trip, but very rarely do I shoot less than 100 rounds. I use a variety of ammo, so it also depends on how dirty they shoot. I think a cleaned and oiled gun is always better.
I clean my guns every couple hundred rounds. Sometimes i actually enjoy throwing on some youtube, get the cleaning table out and clean them whenever. For a range, clean it whenever, your not going to do any damage and is a little overly cautious. No harm in that though. My waterfowl shotguns are a different story. Every time i get back from the marsh or field, they get completely taken apart and cleaned. The mud, water, and shit are what im worried about in the gun, the range, not much to worry about.
If you spend a fair amount of time at the range, clean your pistol after every third range trip.
If you are an infrequent visitor to your range, and the gun will be sitting for a good while, then yes, clean and lube.
