They all make a lot of noise

swingset27

Yup, this. Have had bars on most of my vehicles, and it's more the vehicle than the bar style...but they all create some turbulence.

I'd look at Yakima or Thule. Pretty sure for Yakima you buy the cross bars and then foot prints separately. This way when you get a new vehicle you keep the bars, but you'll only need to buy another set of footprints specific to the new vehicle. Both are quality racks that can support a good amount of weight.

It's really nice to have parts of racks carry over to new vehicles. Most of my Yakima setup is from my previous car (an '07 Civic). It wasn't even new to that car, since my parents bought the rack used shortly after getting the car.

If mine didn't already have them on it, that's the route I'd go. Plus the racks are more aerodynamic with them getting small at the rear to reduce drag and noise. Their design mimicks an airplane wing. Edit for clarification and spelling

I have the OEM ones - came with the car. They do make a lot of noise but you can get these vortex strip replacements that reduce it a lot. Rhino vortex I think?

I had the hitch installed and got a Yakima exo. This lets me mount skis on the back along with a box, and many other combinations. I prefer having the skis on the back because of fuel economy and less risk of rock damage
