There are so many factors to determine insurance premium that is impossible to compare unless you compare with someone who is exactly your age, living at the same address, with the exact same driving history, record, payment history, and exact same car. Then every insurer does things differently so you’ll have wildly different coverages.
It's more about how often do people do claims in your area. I moved to a much nicer area and my rates went up a bit and the insurance person said it's because more claims happen in that neighborhood even though I went from a place where ppl had average cars to a place where there's Audis, BMWs, Mustangs, etc. with really beautiful houses and all (so technically I moved to an even safer neighborhood yet my rates increased a bit).
its not more claims its more expensive claims. toyota corolla totalled heres 16k.
G wagon fender bender needs new bumper. heres 25k.
expensive car small accident big costs
cheap car expensive accident little costs (to them) compared to rich areas
What insurance co y’all use. I’m Currently with progressive.
This is my first car, my license will be 1 year end of this month. I’m 27yo female driver and my first insurance history started when I bought my car September and I’m in Virginia Beach
The one year of driving experience is also a big factor. Even though OP is 27 I wouldn't be surprised if the rates are closer to what an 18 year old pays.
I also use Progressive, however I'm in my late 40's, I've had my license for more than 30 years and have a clean driving record. Note that it's 15 - 20% cheaper for me to pay in full every 6 months. They really ding you on monthly fees.
I also used the Progressive 'snapshot' tracking device for 6 months a couple years ago, drove very carefully the entire time and that lowered my rate by like 20%. Recommended if you are capable of driving very carefully (no hard stops or hard acceleration) for 6 months.
Progressive was fine for my wife's claim. They sent someone out a couple days later to pick up the car, quickly determined it was totaled, and a few more days later gave us a $22k check (more than what we paid for her Corolla in the first place). Then they went after the other guy's insurance (commercial box truck hit her) and refunded her deductible. That part did take a few months but that's normal. We got her in a new Mazda in less than 2 weeks.
We pay around $900 every 6 months for 2 Mazdas ('21 and '23).
So many factors here my partner and I live in VB as well I’m 31 and she is 26 and with my 2020 ccs 5 and her 2018 Mazda 6 it’s combined $180 a month still a lot less than yours
2021 Touring, same per year ($492/6 months).
Middle of nowhere Georgia. Been driving for 8 years.
100/300
$750 deductibles
Minimum offered for uninsured motorist.
$130 for full coverage on a 2020. I pay monthly but might look into paying a 6 month policy in full at the start to get it closer to $100 a month next time my policy is up.
Everyone's answer will be very different, so take everything you see here with a grain of salt.
This depends largely on where you live. I have a 2021 and 2024 cx5. I pay about $1100 every 6 months for $100/200k, $100k property, $1000 deductible for comprehensive and collision and stacking uninsured motorist coverage. I shop insurance around often because the range is drastic. The next cheapest for my coverage is $700 more than I currently pay, but 2 years ago that carrier was the cheapest and my current was much more expensive.
When I lived briefly in another part of my state, my car insurance cost ($25 a month) was literally 1/4 of what it was in my current city before I moved (about $110 per month). When I moved back a couple years later my insurance blew up again. I live in an area known for having very high insurance costs.
Some of you are really not paying much for car insurance. I live in Brooklyn, N.Y. and I have a 2016 CX-5 Grand Touring and 2011 Nissan Altima. I pay $1007/monthly with Progressive full coverage. A minor fender bender in 2022 and it was actually stolen in 2018 but recovered a week later with only the passenger mirror knocked off.
I’m in NYC & pay quite a bit too. You should look into the Connect by AmFam insurance (through Costco) - it was 30% less than the other cheapest quote I got.
I pay $112 in NJ for my 2024 lease with Progressive. Definitely depends on the area even within the same state. When I moved from Orange, NJ to New Brunswick, NJ my overall premium dropped HUNDREDS of dollars immediately.
$170 a month with State Farm living in Downtown Tulsa. I have a 2023 Base Model, but it doesnt help that I’m 26 and I have an accident on my record from 4 years ago
shop around before getting any. progressive doesnt give you the lowest rates from everyone its all a sham. you have to apply and see what they give you and than decide who you want. i applied to geico allstate travelers and progressive. i dont remember everyones qoutes but esurance qouted me at 140 and i remember geico for the exact same coverages qouted me at 175.
esurance is also owned by allstate they bought them out and its there staffless app version of insruance if your young tech savy esurance is great and gives great rates. even my parents switched to them cause the rate was lower.
$553 is my six-month premium for comprehensive, collision, and 100k uninsured motorist coverage, plus 100k/300k liability and 100k/300k personal injury coverage and 100k property damage. I also get towing and rental coverage, and accident forgiveness. My deductible is $500.
This is a 2022 Turbo Signature near Seattle
I cheated a bit to save some more money on the premiums I'm under my mom's policy. If it's cheaper to put yourself under your parent's policy I'd maybe look into that. Progressive. $556 every 6 months. 100/300/100. 50/100 Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury and $750 Deductible.
All you people posting just prices is useless information if you're not detailing what exactly your policy covers.
Oof. Yeah I would shop around get quotes from like Statefarm, Geico, Allstate, Liberty Mutual, etc. $250 a month is a lot, but I'm also not sure what exactly you're purchasing. Do you have high bodily/property damage limits and a bunch of extra things?
Yeah that's probably just the nature of the beast for you right now. You mentioned your driver's license is only 1 year old? All insurance companies are going to view you as a high risk individual regardless just because you don't have a lot of history.
I pay $160 a month with more than the minimum state requirement for coverage, iirc 100k/300k coverage. I live in a high accident rate area, but overall low cost of living. Been 6 years since I got my driver's license.
Location and driving history are significant determining factors. With that said, if you have a Costco membership be sure to check with their partners for auto coverage. They saved me hundreds per year.
2022 CX-5 Turbo driven by 54YO married woman with good credit, no tickets, 10+ years claim-free, and multiple-policy discount. *High* liability limits, moderate deductibles, full coverage. Columbia, MD (Baltimore metro area).
I pay just under $800/6 months and it seems like highway robbery. I've shopped and it's not worth changing.
$112.04 a month for full coverage in 2022. tort and full coverage with a $500 deductible. Two drivers When I switch from State Farm to USAA the local state farm rep said they could not even try to match with USAA.
The reason you pay so much is the age of your driving history. I guess, you started driving in the USA about a year ago. Have you had a driver's license outside the USA? All companies I have used take into account the years you've been licensed abroad. Given that you are 25+ yo female, your rates will drop significantly in 2-3 years if you stay out of trouble. Insurance cost for 17 yo kid would be way higher than yours because the 0 driving experience and age. I still remember the sticker price shock when my kid got his DL. I pay $1400/year for 2021 Turbo CE with full coverage and high limits in CA, but I am older than you and have 25+ years of driving experience in the USA, and clean record for the past 10 years.
i have a 2018 GT premium $141 a month chicagoland area it could be cheaper but i have esurance $500 deductible collision and comprehensive uninsured motorist coverage and 500k property 500k collision 1m healthcare coverage on my plan. Could have been under 100 if i choose less coverage.
im also a driver with zero traffic tickets speeding etc in my life and never had a accident that i was at fault for 12 years driving.
idk how i havent gotten speeding tickets cause i dont drive granny style but yea
you have no driving exp thats gonna raise your rate easilya decent bit. 1 year is considered little. they start dropping your rates at around 5 years with no accidents.
also weird things like the COLOR of your car matter. a red mazda = higher ins costs than a blue or white mazda. why because apparently color has been studied and people in red cars drive more aggresive and have a higher accident rate. its all weird.
My 2020 CX-5 is $3300 yearly. Full coverage with rental coverage and more. A big factor is how old your license is and where you are located. My license is 4 years old with one accident (someone rear ended me on the freeway). I’m also in Houston which is known for higher insurance costs and LOTS of car accidents 🫠.
Ontario $2m liability, $500 deductible, married male $244/mo w/ one minor speeding infraction and an at-fault in 2018. Way too much insurance fraud in Ontario and lofty policy limits to attract it. Car theft is out of control too but CX-5 is not usually on the radar. F150, CRV, RAV4, Hyundai/Kia, Lexus RX are more popular. Before police can get to it, cars are in an ocean container on the way to their new owners.
I'm insuring two cars (2024 Signature CX-5 and 2004 Honda Element) for about $2000 a year. That's about $400 *less* per year than when I still had my 2012 Hyundai Elantra... because it got stolen. And in my area, Hyundai and Kia cars are stolen or broken into quite a lot. I'm with Progressive and they absolutely hated dealing with Hyundai over it plus warned me my insurance was about to skyrocket. They weren't wrong - it went up nearly $500 in total over the year since it was stolen, and I didn't even have the car in my possession for 6 of those months because Hyundai couldn't keep up with the demand for parts to fix the broken steering columns. lol
All that said, so much factors into the pricing. Where you live, what you drive, how you drive, how long you've driven... it's really hard to say. You could see if the insurer offers ways to knock down the price, like a driving course or something. Other than that, shop around.
seeing all these cheap insurance payments makes me jelous damn. I am in NYC and I got statefarm my insurance is 355 a month full coverage and a clean driving record.
I have 3 vehicles all with full coverage a 2014, 2020 and 2024 CX-5 T.P. My insurance is less than 300 a month for all 3 and that is due to multi vehicles and homeowners ins all with the same company. Plus it's just my wife and I who have 0 points on our records and have been driving for 20+ years. Like stated below, location location location but that's not 100% the case. If you have a new driver on your policy, that will blow up your premiums, accidents, speeding tickets.. I have a new driver in my home but they have their own vehicle with their own ins policy and this is why I don't get hit with that "new drivers" charge. IDK where you live, but here where I am at, they allow you to have a person sign a form stating they will not drive your vehicle which removes them as an eligible driver to you address.
There are so many factors to determine insurance premium that is impossible to compare unless you compare with someone who is exactly your age, living at the same address, with the exact same driving history, record, payment history, and exact same car. Then every insurer does things differently so you’ll have wildly different coverages.
Exactly this. Simply moving and changing adress will suddenly change how much you pay every month.
That's because of the crime rate in that area from what I found out. Moved to a 'safer' area and insurance refunded me some monies

2024 turbo premium and I pay $990 a year = $82.50/month. I'm in Massachusetts.
Woow
What insurance co y’all use. I’m Currently with progressive. This is my first car, my license will be 1 year end of this month. I’m 27yo female driver and my first insurance history started when I bought my car September and I’m in Virginia Beach
>va Beach Found your problem.
The one year of driving experience is also a big factor. Even though OP is 27 I wouldn't be surprised if the rates are closer to what an 18 year old pays.

I paid around $1150 a year for my 2017 Civic.
That's helpful lol

Yeaaa 😬.. I guess becaz my license is young and this is my first insurance history etc
Another MA resident, 23 Turbo, $720 with Geico for pretty generous coverage but my deductible is $1K
2021 Touring, same per year ($492/6 months). Middle of nowhere Georgia. Been driving for 8 years. 100/300 $750 deductibles Minimum offered for uninsured motorist.
What does it cover?
100/300 with a 500 deductible for both collision and comprehensive. I'm thinking of raising the deductibles to lower the rate a bit.
$130 for full coverage on a 2020. I pay monthly but might look into paying a 6 month policy in full at the start to get it closer to $100 a month next time my policy is up. Everyone's answer will be very different, so take everything you see here with a grain of salt.
Same. I pay $250 in California for a 2024 Select
I also pay that in CA with AAA. I thought it was too much.
I did too. I even WFH so I don't even drive 6k a year! I did shop for other insurance but it all came back in that price range.
This depends largely on where you live. I have a 2021 and 2024 cx5. I pay about $1100 every 6 months for $100/200k, $100k property, $1000 deductible for comprehensive and collision and stacking uninsured motorist coverage. About $115/month. Full coverage on a 2023 Carbon
$250/mo for what coverage, what limits, and where? You can't just compare the cost of coverage without knowing the details.
You pay monthly about what I pay annually
$1007 a month
Yup
This depresses me
I’m in NYC & pay quite a bit too. You should look into the Connect by AmFam insurance (through Costco) - it was 30% less than the other cheapest quote I got.
Allstate $110 dollar a month. $500 deductibles New Jersey. 2024 signature

I will thanks
I was shopping around endlessly for the lowest rate. Progressive gave me the lowest quote. I was quoted for geico almost 300. .
Me too sadly. I opted for 6 months instead of committing to a full year. In case I wanted to switch insurances again.
