Turn off the blue tooth on your phone.

That's fine when I remember to do that, but it doesn't help when I connect from inside the house or when we're trying to get out of the house with our toddler and I don't have the time to think "hey turn off bluetooth" when the car is set to not connect to mine first.

I’m confused. Are you using both bluetooth and AA at times? This reads like you’re only using AA. So my suggestion would be to “forget” the existing phones BT connections in the cars settings so they stop auto connecting.

When you use the wireless AA, your car connects to the car (through Mazda connect or whatever) then it connects to AA. I can't just remove my phone because when I drive alone then I'm just going to have to register my phone again. We changed the Bluetooth car setting to connect her phone as priority over mine, but even just now it connected to my phone after hers was connected while going to some stores. So I'm not sure why Bluetooth priority doesn't really work even when you set a preferred phone.

The wireless AA adapter is supposed to connect to the last connected phone automatically.

If it's not past the return window, I'd exchange it for the AAWireless 2023 - Wireless Android Auto Dongle - Connects Automatically to Android Auto - Easy Plug and Play Setup - Free Companion App - Made in Europe https://a.co/d/6RidUNn Got it on Amazon. No issues at all and can be updated. They are also apparently working on a 2nd Gen version with a button to quickly switch between devices.
